I'm sorry if this thread has been done lots? But anyway, whilst there are films that are bad and funny for it, there are films that are so bad they make you want to scream. I watched Aquaman the other day and it was jaw grindingly awful. I can't think of a worse recent movie right now but am interested to hear of any that can challenge that monumental pile of guano.

That awful feckin Yesterday thing. Danny Boyle and Richard Curtis clearly had no one to point out the breathtakingly crap plot. I saw an interview with Macca where he was being very diplomatic but damned it with faint praise.

Gamer we daw the advert thought that looks like a good film no idea where the clips from the advert went it was FUCKING NAUSEATING

Also watchman fortunately we borrowed it as a dvd from a friend would never have paid to see it

Avatar long just TOO long in places

Lord of the rings, Lord what were they on about? Does it even corolate to the book? Does it make sense? No we are going to ignore gandalf and bugger off with a yotal stranger no-one trusts 🙄

So much money wasted my family wonder why I no longer go to the cinema

Haven't seen the others you mention but.... have you not read LotR? Yes, that is exactly what happens in the book!

Benjispruce4 · 08/01/2023 17:34

Do watch A Man Called Otto. When to see this last night but I do love a Tom Hanks film.

barbrahunter · 08/01/2023 17:34

Knives out. What a load of rubbish. I think I get what it is trying to do, eg casting against type etc but what a monumental waste of acting talent. Shit script, shit use of genre tropes. It tried to do something new with something old but it failed.

Notgoodatpoetrybutgreatatlit · 08/01/2023 17:35

I actually liked Aquaman pp. But Dune. Omg. I am a history teacher and seriously I have studied whole periods of history that are less confusing not to say more entertaining. My other half loved it! I am dreading them making the rest of the series.
Also the last Batman film, no excuse, it went on and on. I am pretty sure one of the villains made the same speech 10 or 15 times.
And the inclusion of the joker at the end. Please.

More recently, Where the Crawdads sing.
Again, explicit, brutal male violence when Chase raped Kya. He beat the shit out of her and she wasn't hospitalised and remained pretty for the camera.
She murdered him but that scene wasn't included.

Omg that film is absolutely shockingly awful. I saw it in the USA in the cinema. It just never gets going and then just ends. Total waste of time and money

Avrenim · 08/01/2023 17:36

The fourth Indiana Jones film. Just aaghhhhhhh.

And several already mentioned on here.

Oh also a really beyond pretentious one about being dead and the meaning of life, Tree of Life. I don't care how many awards it won, it's soporific drivel.

<Dons tin hat for this one...>

I finally watched Dirty Dancing for the first time yesterday evening. Oh dear. It was all very odd, and I wasn't at all impressed. I found it strangely dystopian and I couldn't get to grips with it at all. Disliked most of the people, and the characters weren't very well drawn. There didn't seem to be a proper sense of the period it was supposed to be set in either. Bit of a turkey really.

taxi4ballet · 08/01/2023 17:40

Black Swan. It had no redeeming qualities whatever, and I threw the DVD in the bin.

DrCoconut · 08/01/2023 17:41

@MillicentTrilbyHiggins I haven't seen my sister's keeper. Changing the end is always an odd thing to do, usually to make it more "Hollywood feelgood". See the scarlet letter for another example of making essentially "they all die in misery" into "happily ever after".

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 08/01/2023 16:37

The Dark is Rising.

And I only watched 30 minutes of it, before the rage overtook me and I pressed the off switch.

Ohhh I couldn’t agree more, @Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies - I so wanted it to be good, because I love the book so much, and it was a complete crock of shite. Thank heavens they didn’t go on to ruin the other four books!

Catoneverychair · 08/01/2023 17:47

Titanic, I started watching and gave up. Twice.

Love Actually got ruined by Mumsnet....

The Greatest Showman. I love Hugh Jackman semi-naked but couldn't stand his singing.

Catterbat · 08/01/2023 17:49

Another vote for Glass Onion, absolute turkey of a film, I cannot fathom why so many people seem to like it. It’s about as ‘style over substance’ as you can possibly get. I couldn’t wait for it to end.

Also 100% agree with Moulin Rouge. Dreadful. And on a similar note, The Great Gatsby (the Leonardo Dicaprio one). Proper rage inducing.

DisneyChops · 08/01/2023 17:52

There's a Norwegian film on Netflix (or similar) at the minute called 'Trolls'.
Awful.

Benjispruce4 · 08/01/2023 17:53

Not even heard of Glass
Onion. Thanks for the warning.

pictoosh · 08/01/2023 17:57

The Lion King...unpopular opinion I know but really it's hackneyed, formulaic, has Elton bloody John all over it and imo, isn't one of Disney's stand out films. No idea where the adoration for it comes from. I'm annoyed by it because it's so revered.

Bridesmaids...oh you must watch it, seriously it's hilarious, soooo funny!
It isn't. It's crass and basic. Odd pairing of children's humour in an adult themed film.

pictoosh · 08/01/2023 17:59

Oh Moulin Rouge - I cringed so hard at Ewan McGregor singing in that. Plus, despite the opulance and decadence of the setting, it was a boring story.

DolphinWars · 08/01/2023 18:00

Harry Potter films - amazing special effects, amazing adult cast, but none of that was enough to carry the godawful efforts of Radcliffe, Watson and Grint.

So much was left out for time reasons that made the films very confusing unless you were familiar with the books.

PasturesN3w · 08/01/2023 18:02

I'm old enough to remember the worst film of all time ever, from 1988, Michael Jackson's Moonwalker. Not even funny bad, just toe-curlingly, self-indulgently weird and awful- we left before the end. However, I did enjoy the hilarious crpness of Jason Statham in The Meg. Turns out my DD at Uni and her mates have sht shark movie night. Apparently, there are many of them and they love revelling in the awfulness.

ByTheNine · 08/01/2023 18:03

"The Pale Blue Eye"on Netflix was so bad it made me furious. The first ten minutes lured me in, then the rest of it was trope after cliché for two fucking hours.

IceStationStallion · 08/01/2023 18:06

The first John Wick movie. I don't normally walk out of a cinema but did with that. Was a bit pissed off with the ending of Shutter Island too !! Con!

rookiemere · 08/01/2023 18:06

I was just trying to remember films I have walked out of recently - had cinema membership so it's not as dramatic as it sounds.

The recent Matrix revival was godawful. Could tell from the first minute, but stupidly endured another 41 minutes of the awful thing. I hate it when the last film has been made over ten years ago, but you're expected to cheer when "dearly beloved " characters come on. Such a shame as it really tarred the memory of the earlier ones which I enjoyed.

Also The Northman. Complete twaddle, watched as they burned down some children but had to leave when it showed the inner workings of a heart. Poor old DH had wanted to stay and thought I'd left because I was upset, rather than deeply bored.

I've seen it at least three times and must agree. There is no chemistry on that screen.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 08/01/2023 18:10

Talk of Emma Watson has reminded me of ‘Noah’ in which she plays Shem’s girlfriend and is more wooden than the ark.

JamSandle · 08/01/2023 18:10

So much of what's been listed including Love Actually, Dirty Dancing and Dune.
