I'm sorry if this thread has been done lots? But anyway, whilst there are films that are bad and funny for it, there are films that are so bad they make you want to scream. I watched Aquaman the other day and it was jaw grindingly awful. I can't think of a worse recent movie right now but am interested to hear of any that can challenge that monumental pile of guano.

Avatar, boring as hell. Definitely not seeing the way of water

CaptainCorellisXylophone · 08/01/2023 18:57

Only really because it is the most recent in my memory: Avatar 2.

It's identical to Avatar, which wasn't great, and it's so needlessly LONG! For the last thirty minutes all I could think was WHEN WILL THIS END!?

I cannot bear Love Actually. It's as if the stories were written by kids they are so bad, particularly the Martin Freeman, Laura Linney and Keira Knightley ones. They are not remotely interesting or funny, just plain irritating. The only bit I like is Rowan Atkinson's 5 minutes

Glad others hate it, I feel sometimes I’m the only one. Awful film.

I don’t watch modern films now as they all seem to be CGI and action driven or written for YA.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. (The Book was shit too)

My Sisters Keeper (why did they change the ending)

The Shopaholic film (can't remember if it had the same name as the book. But itv was almost a totally different story)

Actually lots of book 'adaptations' that were nothing like the books.

I read The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas in the bath in two hours and subsequently discovered the author wrote it over one weekend.Just terrible and all the 'outwith' nonsense was awful.

Didn't bother with the film.

rookiemere · 08/01/2023 19:00

@CaptainCorellisXylophone I'm boycotting Avatar purely on its length, just as I refused to go and see Elvis although the trailers looked really good.
No film needs to be over three hours long, in fact I'd argue that very few films need to be over 2 hrs. DS16 went to see Avatar and said it was much too long.

BunnyFantastic · 08/01/2023 19:03

Mr Holmes. Absolutely terrible film.
Also Avatar. Amazing special effects and cinematography. Shit film. (See also Titanic)

LexMitior · 08/01/2023 19:05

Glass Onion. It was crap. The hype was huge. The only good bit is Daniel Craig and Hugh Grant playing house as husband and husband.

Clothes terrible, location terrible, plot a big fat nothing.

Muddays · 08/01/2023 19:05

I have been absolutely cracking up at everyone's responses here! I'm actually almost forgiving these flaming awful movies for the enraged and hilarious fury they've inspired.

@MagpiePi A Quiet Place is on my shit list too. How did they plant a whole fucking field of corn without making any noise? Did they use imaginary tractors?

CatWorm · 08/01/2023 19:12

LA LA LAND!!!!

Loads of people were like “you have to see it! You would LOVE IT!” So I thought brilliant! Took my mum, MIL and Nan. My mum fell asleep and honestly, halfway through when I realised it wasn’t going to get better I wanted to walk out.

the only person in the group who liked it was my Nan, but she’s batty and deaf 😂.

That was my opening position, and I really should have stuck to it. 🙄😁

vickibee · 08/01/2023 19:13

Agree about glass onion, didn’t like the plot or anything* about it although my mate loved it.

IcakethereforeIam · 08/01/2023 19:14

Morbius, made me retroactively hate Matt Smith as Doctor Who.

The Pick of Destiny, something else I'll never forgive Dave Grohl for.

LexMitior · 08/01/2023 19:17

@vickibee - it was the bit where they go on about peeling back the onion. Really? How literal should we get??

Good call on Cats. No one wants to see a CGI James Corden feline licking himself. Inexcusable, disturbing, expensive.

Funkyslippers · 08/01/2023 19:18

barbrahunter do you mean the original Knives Out or the new one? I loved the original but couldn't get on with the new one

CatWorm · 08/01/2023 19:21

Cats was going to be an animated film years ago but got scrapped. The character designs are beautiful and the rough plot line sounded perfect. I wish they’d done that. There was no way I could sit through the film they actually made, looks petrifying. And also, James Corden. Ew.

the musical is bloody mental, but I’ve loved the music since I was a kid. It could’ve be brilliant. It screams animated classic.

user8912 · 08/01/2023 19:22

The Marilyn Monroe one,
blonde? Absolutely awful. Scandalous how it's mostly made up but not very clear.

White Noise.

Couldn't finish either, very rare that I don't manage to finish a film.

LexMitior · 08/01/2023 19:25

@CatWorm - cats should not have human style lips. All the people involved should be sent to an island to think about what they have done

rookiemere · 08/01/2023 19:25

@user8912 I'd forgotten about Blonde - so dreadful I couldn't watch all of it, and such a slur on the memory of a wonderful film star. I know it was based on a fictional book, but it was just horrible and a waste of a good actress as well.

onyttig · 08/01/2023 19:27

The adventures of shark boy and lava girl.

My expectations were obviously low but I was furious at the overt messaging that if you just want it badly enough, your divorcing/divorced parents will get back together and everything will be wonderful. Awful, irresponsible shite.

Then add on a film that would have been hard to sit next to a child through anyway… I hate the film.

LuluBlakey1 · 08/01/2023 19:29

99% of them.

LuluBlakey1 · 08/01/2023 19:30

Spencer - just dire.

Volkswagenitalia · 08/01/2023 19:32

Definitely The Boy in tbe Stripes Pyjamas. It's so offensive, especially the ending - I'm kind of surprised it was ever published, let alone made info a film!

Volkswagenitalia · 08/01/2023 19:35

I really liked Where the Crawdads Sing, but it did make me laugh that Kya wore a pristine different outfit in literally every scene, had great skin and teeth, her hair was always brushed and looked lovely!

Event Horizon is a good film, but its so not what I was expecting and the scene where he gets a glimpse into hell is just horrible!

Bustarold · 08/01/2023 19:39

Without a doubt, Love Actually. It's nasty and cynical, I cannot understand why it's so popular. It makes me so angry, it's not just a question of different tastes, it's a really insulting and patronising piece of the most immoral filmmaking.
