This evening I watched Summer Holiday on starring Cliff Richard on BBC iplayer. It's been one of my favourite films since I was a child because my grandparents had the video and I just always loved it. Probably wouldn't be a popular choice for many people in their 30s but then I've always been an old soul with films and music.

So what unlikely films do you enjoy that nobody else does?

The film mindhunter with jonny Lee Miller in it

CheerfulBunny · 03/07/2021 00:32

Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion - no one else gets it. Banging soundtrack.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 03/07/2021 00:34

Love Actually - always slated on here and in real life but I love it and watch it every Christmas

TerrifiedandWorried · 03/07/2021 00:39

I love Romy and Michelle! The shoe filled with blood. The unfeasibly long limo. Brilliant film.

Deuce Bigelow, Male Gigolo. Surprisingly funny and sweet.

Kanaloa · 03/07/2021 00:40

I love the movie She’s The Man. Subjectively I do know it’s absolute nonsense but I just love it.

Kanaloa · 03/07/2021 00:42

Objectively, even. Subjectively I just love it.

Nikki360 · 03/07/2021 00:56

I loved summer holiday as well, I love old movies the best

GolfEchoRomeoTangoIndia · 03/07/2021 01:00

Alien vs Predator. Really love it.

And Dredd (the Karl Urban not the Sylvester Stallone). Amazingly violent. Only classified as an 18 because there isn’t a 19. I found myself at a loose end in a strange city on a random Tuesday evening a few years ago and as a longtime 2000AD fan I whisked myself off to the cinema to watch it in 3D.
“Dredd 3D please!”
Assistant stares back at middle aged woman.
“Just one ticket?”
“Yes please”
“You’re not meeting up with anytime else? Because it is assigned seating”
“No just me. And a large tub of Haagen Daaz please”

Absolute bliss.

Brigadoon!
It’s beyond shit with wobbly sets and the dodgiest most bizarre Hollywood take on Scotland and schmaltzy beyond belief but I watched it as a little girl and I loved the idea of a hidden enchanted place that can only be accessed every 100 years.

I still love secret places and occasionally dream about them.

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 03/07/2021 08:30

@WithLoveFromMyselfToYourself I love Brigadoon & all other old musicals to be fair as a Scot I find old Hollywood's take on Scotland hilarious.

My absolute favourite movie is I Married a Witch - old black & white movie I came across on BBC2 one Sunday afternoon as a teen no one I know has ever heard of it & I can't convince anyone to watch it. I have the movie poster in my Amazon basket ready to buy when I decorate my hall Grin

I.love it too! One of the best feel good films
MissMissTorrance · 03/07/2021 08:33

I love Love Actually.
Also love Sex and The City movies. Pure escapism.

Odisia · 03/07/2021 08:40

La La Land. I loved it, but no-one else seems to.

Oooo yeh, another vote for Romy and Michelle. Not exactly top notch acting or storyline but there's something about it that's really enjoyable. Amazing 80s soundtrack.

Sounds like my kind of Sunday afternoon @NatashaAlianovaRomanova. Love an old black and white movie. Smile

Me! I love it
merrygoround88 · 03/07/2021 08:53

I adore love actually despite some very questionable storylines. It’s my wrapping presents movie

JasmineTeacup · 03/07/2021 09:00

Four Weddings and a Funeral appears to be loathed on MN, but it's one of my favourites. I don't even mind Andie MacDowell.

mysterymile · 03/07/2021 09:09

Although I completely agree with all the criticism of love actually, I can't help but enjoy it.

mag2305 · 03/07/2021 09:16

I like Grease 2 better than Grease 1 which isn't a popular opinion. But I think some of the songs are better (not all), like Cool Rider. The Back to School intro song is good. I also prefer the role reversal where the geeky man works hards to impress the lady. Smile

con air. love it. watched it so many times. also jumping jack flash, so dated but fun.

MartyHart · 03/07/2021 09:24

Omg I love Jumping Jack Flash!!!!
I quote it but no one knows.

MyFloorIsLava · 03/07/2021 09:27

@GolfEchoRomeoTangoIndia I love Dredd. Brilliant film. I was at home feeling sorry for myself after a miscarriage and Dredd was on TV. Cheered me up no end Grin

On an entirely different note, I love Bring It On and I have a sneaking fondness for Bring It On 2, 3 and 5. (Bring It On 4 sucks.) There is a Halloween special being made, can't wait.

CorporeSarnie · 03/07/2021 09:30

Can't bear cliff Richard. He makes my skin crawl. Even when he wasn't such a creepy old man. But I agree with you on grease 2 and with another poster con air is terrible yet amazingly so.
