This evening I watched Summer Holiday on starring Cliff Richard on BBC iplayer. It's been one of my favourite films since I was a child because my grandparents had the video and I just always loved it. Probably wouldn't be a popular choice for many people in their 30s but then I've always been an old soul with films and music.

So what unlikely films do you enjoy that nobody else does?

California Man isn’t the same as Blast From the Past (which I also love)
In California Man Brendan Fraser is a caveman, in BFTP his parents hid in a nuclear bunker in the fifties and he grew up with no access to the outside world.

MartyHart · 03/07/2021 15:45

Yes Blast from the Past also has Alicia Silverstone in it. He's called Adam and she's called Eve.
Adam's mother is hilarious, she hit the bottle because her husband was nuts!

Need to order some DVDs now as these are all films that aren't on Netflix etc

@Tinkerbellatrix

I love Grease 2, I remember singing the soundtrack in my head when sitting my GCSE exams Grin Also Calamity Jane has been a favourite of mine since I was very small. I don't know anyone else who knows it never mind loves it!
I love Calamity Jane!
GolfEchoRomeoTangoIndia · 03/07/2021 15:48

Dredd is on Netflix

LubaLuca · 03/07/2021 15:48

The 'Burbs. I have watched it countless times, a classic Tom Hanks film with a great cast. Everybody else forgets they've ever seen it Grin

Blondiney · 03/07/2021 15:50

The Danny Dyer blockbuster, The Business.

Blush
Branleuse · 03/07/2021 15:52

Cats (2019) LOVED it

BirdyBee · 03/07/2021 15:52

What about Bob and Honey I shrank the kids, love them so much! Also Harry and the Hendersons!

@ParadiseLaundry

Romy and Michele is great! Oooh, wonder if it's on Netflix or Prime 🤔

Also loved LaLa Land. The soundtrack was great!

I LOVE Showgirls. I can never tell anyone IRL though!

I love ‘Showgirls’ too. 😀
ElephantCup · 03/07/2021 16:13

@Kanaloa

I love the movie She’s The Man. Subjectively I do know it’s absolute nonsense but I just love it.
I have watched this too many times
Itsmemaggie · 03/07/2021 17:30

@SirSamuelVimes

I bloody loved Brigadoon as a kid. Not seen it in years, sort of afraid to in case it ruins the memories!

And yeah, Romy & Michelle is an awesome film!

High Society is one of my favourite films of all time. Grace Kelly (her final film) Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong. Brilliant. I know lots of other people must like it too, I just haven't met them!

Me! I love it too. I feel like I’ve finally found the people on my film wavelength on this thread 😊
SkiingIsHeaven · 03/07/2021 17:38

Rhinestone with Dolly Parton and Sylvester Stallone. So funny.

BillyShears · 03/07/2021 19:25

@Icantrememberthenameoftheartis

The Good Girl with Jennifer Anniston.

Eyes wide shut with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman

The Good Girl is a great movie and had great reviews as I recall, I don’t think this counts in our otherwise list of crap films Grin

I’ve thought of another one- A Hard Days Night. So silly but such fun. And John Lennon was so funny.

duvetdrama · 03/07/2021 19:27

Agree with Lost In Translation, it's not popular as far as I can tell but I absolutely love it. Probably my favourite ever film ☺️

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/07/2021 19:35

@youvemademyshitlist

I also love Romy and Michelle.

I love Hackers - a young Angelina Jolie and Jonny Lee Miller. It's so dated, as all films that focus on computers tend to, and it's a bit shit really (dh who works in IT security, is especially scathing of it) but I love it, it reminds me of being 15 and seeing it at the cinema.

I also love the St Trinians films - not those crap new ones, but the proper old ones - The Belles of St Trinians, Blue Murder at St Trinians, The Great St Trinians Train Robbery.... they're perfect Sunday afternoon viewing but I've never met anyone else who likes them. Joyce Grenfell as Sergeant Gates cracks me up every time.

Look no further, @youvemademyshitlist! The Belles of St Trinian's is one of my all-time favourites. I don't think much of any of the others, but that first one has Alistair Sim playing twins, Joyce Grenfell and George Cole amongst a host of other terrific British character actors. I adore it, and have done ever since I first saw it as a child of about 8.
MyGhastIsFlabbered · 03/07/2021 19:48

@CheerfulBunny

Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion - no one else gets it. Banging soundtrack.
Love this film!

I think it’s very popular — it was a big critical and commercial success, after all, and Sofia Coppola got an Oscar, and lots of Baftas and other awards — but it seems to attract ire on here when mentioned.
nocturnalcatfreetogoodhome · 03/07/2021 19:56

Schindler’s List! It’s the film everyone watches once and never again but I love it! Must watch it 3/4 times a year!

nocturnalcatfreetogoodhome · 03/07/2021 19:57

Grease 2 is fantastic! Give me Maxwell Caulfield over John Travolta any day!

mag2305 · 03/07/2021 19:57

@BillyShears yes, I'm a Beatles fan anyway but A Hard Days Night is fun! Watched is recently with my little boy who's nearly 3 and he really liked it as it involves trains Grin
He also loved the film Yellow Submarine which is a bit wacky, but good.

On the Buses. The film. It's really dated and was probably pretty terrible when it came out but I love it.Blush

zombielady · 03/07/2021 20:02

Blue lagoon. Dying to watch it again but can't find it.

beardeddragon174 · 03/07/2021 20:04

@samcro I adore Con Air!!!

My guilty pleasure is Kate and Leopold.

@zombielady I was thinking about that film earlier. It's so far fetched but totally gorgeous too. I hope they survived eating those berries at the end Smile
