This evening I watched Summer Holiday on starring Cliff Richard on BBC iplayer. It's been one of my favourite films since I was a child because my grandparents had the video and I just always loved it. Probably wouldn't be a popular choice for many people in their 30s but then I've always been an old soul with films and music.

So what unlikely films do you enjoy that nobody else does?

And Con Air!

SmugglersHaunt · 13/07/2021 19:28

The Stud. Joan Collins and Oliver Tobias are fantastic in it, and I love the 70s London disco scene as shown in it. I watch it every Christmas. Yes, it’s a Christmas film!

SmugglersHaunt · 13/07/2021 19:30

@Eyesofdisarray

Eraserhead- lady in the radiator....😳😳 Dead of Night (1945) truly scary but nobody else seems impressed The Holiday 😄 universally hated but I love it Tower Block- love it

@FakeColinCaterpillar & @mogtheexcellent

Can't believe I've found people who have heard of I Married a Witch... I'm usually met with blank stares at the mere mention of it.

After this thread I decided to treat myself - this will have pride of place in my newly decorated hall!

I’ll admit I’ve not seen it for years. When I was a kid I was obsessed with that and Some Like It Hot.

MartyHart · 13/07/2021 21:08

@FakeColinCaterpillar Some Like it Hot is my favourite ever comedy. I absolutely love it.

Does anyone here listen to You Must Remember This? It's a podcast about Hollywood, from silent films to modern day though mostly golden age and 60's.
My favourite was the series called 6 degrees of Joan Crawford. Highly recommend.

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 13/07/2021 21:08

@FakeColinCaterpillar me either it's not available on Prime etc not that I check regularly & I don't have a DVD player anymore

DinosaurDiana · 13/07/2021 21:11

Hope Floats.
The little girl was amazing in it, so mature and acted so well.
And Harry Connick Jr is easy on the eye in it.

DinosaurDiana · 13/07/2021 21:13

The Wedding Singer and Sweet Home Alabama are films I watch every so often. My comfort films, along with Hope Floats.

I'm really pleased this thread's been so popular. Smile I had a baby 3 weeks ago so I've been a bit busy, but just catching up now on reading everyone's film likes. Got lots of films to add to my watch list.

Beetlejuice. I just love this movie.

RedHotChiliChips · 05/08/2021 21:51

@MartyHart

Omg I love Jumping Jack Flash!!!! I quote it but no one knows.
I loved that film! When I was a teenager, my now late gran had it on a VHS tape and it became the tape that I watched everytime I visited here (she lived far away so visits weren't on weekly basis!). I'm sligthly bemused why she had taped it. She didn't watch american films but mainly quiz shows and that sort of thing.
SkylarFerris · 04/09/2021 20:01

To Wong Fu thanks for everything Julie Newmar

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 04/09/2021 20:06
@randomkey123 yes yes I love Flashbacks of a Fool!
Calamity Jane fabulous, Romy and Michelle also genius.

Anyone else love Blast from the Past? Brendan Fraser has lived all his life in a fallout shelter because his mad dad thought the Russians had dropped the bomb but they hadn't. It's soooooo funny.
LOVE Blast from the Past!!!

BluebelllsRosesDaffodills · 10/09/2021 00:38

Clockwise with John Cleese

Bortles · 10/09/2021 00:57

Stay. Ryan Gosling film. It is weird as fuck but then the ending makes it all make sense and it's agonisingly clever and sad and you think about it for a long time. Ive talked to a couple of people who didnt understand the significance of the end so it just remained odd.

ThatNameAgainItsMrPlow · 18/10/2021 14:43

I have “I married a witch” on dvd!

I also like Grease 2 and whispers “Showgirls” and “Tank Girl”

ThatNameAgainItsMrPlow · 18/10/2021 14:43

Thoroughly Modern Millie, too.

PhlegmDelacour · 26/10/2021 01:56

@IMarchToADifferentDrummer I also love GiGi!

Riding in cars with boys - with Drew Barrymore and Brittany Murphy. Nobody ever seems to know it but I loved it for years.

languagelover96 · 16/01/2022 10:10

West Side story

celiamary · 04/02/2022 12:30

I recognise and remember some of the titles mentioned so far.
I now have Netflix but I was hoping I could find films from the past just as I find all ranges of music on Spotify. It is not like that. Are there any other streaming sites I could use does anyone know?
ps did anyone watch Only Two Can Play the other night? I saw that in cinema. 2nd Run probably.

celiamary · 04/02/2022 13:26

Oh Bother it's a Zombie
