Could Psilocybin cure mental health issues?

NC

I watched a couple of really interning films this weekend. One was 'Fantastic Fungi" and another was 'Magic medicine'. Both were talking about the effects that Psilocybin can have on curing mental health.

(For anyone that does'nt know what Psilocybin is - its the active ingredient in magic mushrooms)

There was an interesting study in the U.K with macrodosing ( large quantities) and I think one is Canada has just started.

I have seen quite a few sites on macro dosing - very small doses ( not enough to get high) and people have been saying that its massively improved their lives.

Psilocybin is actually illegal in this country and thats why its been so hard to even get permission to have these trials/studies.

I am just wondering if people have heard of this or what their views on it were

Thank you

Argh - I'm going to have to get in touch with the Dutch delivery firm. I hope it does turn up.

Hearing your story makes me want to try microdosing even more! I hope it all keeps going well for you. Please keep updating everyone 🙂

My parcel has arrived!! Ooooh, I can't wait to try it. I'm going to start on .3 grams tomorrow morning although I'll have to work out the dosis by eye - my scales arrive tomorrow evening but I won't wait 😂.

Microcurious, ho law are things going for you?

Christmas is even harder than a night out for me and I'm thinking the initial positive report might have been premature. It's no easier this year so far but tomorrow will only be my 7th dose so it is early days. Feeling a bit deflated.

Hello all! Followed chat along eagerly, and started microdosing just over a 2 1/2 weeks ago (using for depression, had special disp. from multiple docs for above recommended dose of the one meds I can tolerate bc of other health conditions and it did nothing). Just 2+ weeks in I feel a little more like myself ages ago, before the black dog got me. Keen to switch to home-grown, and keen micro-gardener already. (Just anything that sprouts, so not difficult).
Following with interest @Microcurious so I can hopefully learn along.

TR888 · 23/12/2022 08:22

Hang in there, Microcurious. I think the fact microdosing worked to control your cravings once we scan indicator that it will control them, eventually! I can see how you're disappointed that it's not doing much now, with Christmas being so difficult re alcohol intake. But i think you might have a solution with microdosing:) Have you considered upping your dose a tiny bit? It's just a thought.

As for me, I took my first dose yesterday. I aimed at 0.3 grams but as I had no scale, I did it by eye. I think I took a little too much, though... I felt as if I'd had too much caffeine. Ive got my scales now and will be able to measure properly next time.

TR888 · 23/12/2022 08:23

Great update from you, grumpy parrot! What dose are you on?

BlandSoup · 23/12/2022 08:28

I guess microdosing, like anything else, isn’t going to be a miracle cure. So I imagine that Christmas is likely to be hard anyway. It’s such a weird time of year. So hopefully after Christmas it’ll be easier again with the cravings.

You're right and I too am following you @TR888 with interest! To be fair I got this flu bug thing a couple of weeks back and even had two days off work which is so unlike me. I literally couldn't even have dragged myself in and I'm just not getting over it at all so that is probably skewing my results as well. Despite not having drank for years, Christmas is SO hard and feels like a real test each time it comes around, like something is missing. Hopefully a year on I'll feel differently.

I have taken slightly higher doses but felt no side effects at all.

NutellaEllaElla · 24/12/2022 12:40

I doubt you'd consciously feel any side effects from any kind of micro dose. I tried a low regular dose in Amsterdam recently and felt contended but otherwise had no noticeable effects.

TR888 · 28/12/2022 16:10

Quick update. I'm still adjusting my dose. First time round, I took too much (didn't have my scales) abd I felt as if I'd drunk too much caffeine. Next one was on Christmas Day and it's tricky to say. I was very busy as we were hosting but at .30 grams, it still felt a tad too high. Today I've had .25 - so far, so good, but it's another odd day as lots has happened. I do feel it's a better dose, though. No major changes but I feel reasonably relaxed and energetic.

I think I'll be able to make a better judgment after the Christmas season 🙂.

BlandSoup · 28/12/2022 17:22

It’s all going to be a process to see what is the best dose.

SidSparrow · 16/02/2023 20:36

For those of you who microdose... What dose did you start with and how often?
Any side effects? How long were you microdosing before you felt a change in your mood and productivity/creativity?

And for those of you who have taken a big dose - 2g plus. Did you feel that your depressive/anxiety symptoms cleared up completely, or did they return? Do you regularly take a higher dose?

I took 2g, felt great after it, like some stuff had resloved. Then microdosed a few times. But now I feel tired, lethargic and kind of back to my old self. Wondering what to do next. Tempted to take a bigger dose for a real system reboot...

Realise this is an old thread now but it was very informative- wondering if anyone is still about and can say anything about how the last year has been with microdosing? :)

TIA!

SleepingDoglets · 11/07/2024 21:00

I’ve been fairly consistently microdosing and have had a really good year.

I’ve also introduced it to a couple of family members who are finding it really helpful.

I’ve been growing it by buying ready inoculated grow kits, it’s a relatively easy process, and very satisfying to see them grow!

hk1993x · 11/07/2024 22:26

Can anyone recommend on where to start with this please?

This thread is very informative- I’d start by reading all of it :)
around page 10 or something there’s a whole description of how to grow your own, for example.
I ordered from Earth Resonance yesterday- I can update once I receive the order. It will take me some time to do much with it tho as I’m currently on antidepressants and need to come off them so may have been a bit premature in buying yesterday

To start you need empty glass jars. Jam jars will do but ideally straight sided/wide neck. Then you boil and simmer popcorn kernels for 20-30 minutes and leave to dry for an hour in a single layer. 3/4 fill the jars and drill a 1cm hole into each lid. Cover the hole with micropore tape. Cover the Lids in tin foil and pressure cook for 60 minutes. Leave to cool over night.

Shake the jars and sterilise your spore syringe needle and lid with 70% alcohol inject 2-5 ml of solution through the micropore. Recover with fresh micropore. Leave in an airing cupboard. Every 2-3 weeks give it a really good shake to spread the white mycelium throughout the kernels. When it's fully white it's ready.

Get a large plastic tub. I use popcorn buckets. Sterlise the inside. Poor boiling water into a 50/50 mix of coir and vermiculite. Cover and leave. Sterlise your hands and then pick up handfuls of the coir mix and squeeze until it's at field capacity ( just a few drops left in, you don't want it dripping wet). Then mix 1 part mycelium kernels to 3-4 parts mix in the popcorn bucket. Mix it really well so all even. Then gently press down and cover in 1-2 inches of coir verm mix. It will be around 1/3 full. Sterilise the inside rim to prevent contamination. Drill a hole in the lid and cover with micropore. Back in the airing cupboard. Leave until the entire bottom base layer is white. Then move to a lit area Then crack the lid and wait. You will have pins and then fruit within 2-3weeks. Collect by twisting at the base. Then resoak for 60 minutes and drain fully then carry on for second flush.

Resurrecting this thread again if that’s ok! Would love updates from you all!

I grow my own and microdose after doing a lot of research on the subject. I also take ashwagandha capsules. Both have incredibly with my ADHD and focus
