Could Psilocybin cure mental health issues?

NC

I watched a couple of really interning films this weekend. One was 'Fantastic Fungi" and another was 'Magic medicine'. Both were talking about the effects that Psilocybin can have on curing mental health.

(For anyone that does'nt know what Psilocybin is - its the active ingredient in magic mushrooms)

There was an interesting study in the U.K with macrodosing ( large quantities) and I think one is Canada has just started.

I have seen quite a few sites on macro dosing - very small doses ( not enough to get high) and people have been saying that its massively improved their lives.

Psilocybin is actually illegal in this country and thats why its been so hard to even get permission to have these trials/studies.

I am just wondering if people have heard of this or what their views on it were

Thank you

I think there is scope however I’m not sure how profitable it would be.

It is a fantastic treatment for cluster headaches which is one of the most excruciatingly painful conditions known to man but it is unlicensed and big P isn’t all that interested in helping a few people live pain free.

He is almost thirty. He says he's felt depressed since he was about 10.

I will look into Amsterdam, thank you for the suggestion. I'll try anything. I managed to get him to fill in a passport renewal yesterday...which was very positive. Hopefully it will come back quickly.

I hope he finds something that works. Defo check out the documentary and get him to watch it too.

Just popped in and saw the talk about going to the Netherlands for a psychedelic experience, and thought I'd share links to the following (by coincidence I'd just been watching it!):

This is a talk by Rosalind Watts (who was a key member in the ICL research project for "treatment resistant depression":

And this is the retreat centre that she's involved with:

That looks super interesting sobranie. How is the microdosing going? There’s a place I read about in Bristol which uses ketamine for helping depression or anxiety. Think it’s about £6k per treatment tho. awaknclinics.com I don’t really know much about ket apart from seeing people on it on parties who were beyond fucked.

FussyLittleFucker · 12/05/2022 09:24

@PlantingTrees Ketamine infusion/treatment is becoming more widely used in the US for treatment resistant depression - even for youngish teens. Anecdotally (the US parents in my MH Facebook group) report pretty good results.
There is one clinic in the UK that offers it on the NHS.

PlantingTrees · 12/05/2022 09:29

I didn’t know that about treatment in the US @FussyLittleFucker and I didn’t know you could get it on the NHS too. I’m thankful not to suffer depression but the anxiety I get is unreal sometimes.

Wallywobbles · 14/05/2022 02:54

My kit has arrived from holland. Now I just need some free time to try it. Monday looks promising

PlantingTrees · 14/05/2022 07:15

Exciting!

greengoose21b · 27/05/2022 23:37

How did it go @Wallywobbles

Wallywobbles · 28/05/2022 03:33

Well the niacin is not very nice but the effect was less today which was my third time. To be honest I’m not really noticing any effect but I guess that is the point. I’d hoped I’d want to cut down on drinking immediately but I’m doing the opposite. I’m going to do finish what I’ve got and see how I feel then.
i have managed a few walks this week which normally I struggle finding the time to
do but that might be because of the rather nasty medical manœuvre I had.
I’ve been taking 0.5g but I might increase a little.

PlantingTrees · 28/05/2022 19:18

What’s niacin? Is that a type of mushroom?

Wallywobbles · 28/05/2022 20:47

So I'm doing the micro-dosing that is the mushroom plus niacin (vit B3?) plus lions mane. Im taking them all together which I think is right?!

PlantingTrees · 28/05/2022 21:20

oh ok! That makes sense, although I have no idea what’s right or not. That’s good you’ve been on a few walks this week.

greengoose21b · 29/05/2022 15:07

Yes, it's good that you are feeling able to get out for a few walks. I hope you continue to see improvements

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 02/06/2022 07:50

I think this is one of the best threads I've read. It's genuinely lovely, and so supportive and thoughtful. It's also amazing to see the change in tone of posters who've been trying it - you sound so much more at peace. myceliumama, your trip sounded wonderful and I'm so pleased for you!

PlantingTrees · 02/06/2022 08:28

It’s been really informative. And nice to chat so some others who are on the same thought process, it’s not something I would bring up much in my day to day life. I’m still a bit put off by the effort of it. What I really would like is some kind of tincture to take a drop of. Like rescue remedy or something.

HeidiWhole · 02/06/2022 09:00

@PlantingTrees I have recently seen micro-dosing capsules available from a mycologist (mushroom/fungi specialist) which sounds appealing. But buying them randomly from Instagram doesn't sit well with me!

PlantingTrees · 02/06/2022 09:08

Ooh can you send me a link to that? I’ll cautiously have a look.

devonianBiatch · 02/06/2022 09:17

Hey all I've make changed for this but was previously Myceliummama.

Lovely to hear that you are all doing well. I'm sorry to hear that you aren't getting the results you hoped for yet @Wallywobbles but it is a very personal process and with different dosing teks and natural individuality it's always going to be different from one person to the next. I hope you find a dose that works for you. And for what it's worth add much as is helped me to cut down smoking/drinking at this timer of year with sunshine etc I just want to drink ALL the time. So my alcohol consumption has gone up buu u t that's kind of normal for me ( even though I don't want it to be).

@HeidiWhole the capsules, are you talking about the very posh looking ones? I think Susie g sent ea link about them on fb. They look great and very slick for somebody that doesn't want to go through the growing process.

I'm doing really well with my growing experience. The growing part is at least as equally therapeutic as the actual consumption of the shrooms. Up to 14 strains and can firmly say that Jedi Mind Fuck and Cyan is my favourite strains. Some I grow just for the names.... albino monkey Dick ? With a side of Frankensteins cock? 😂🤷🏼‍♀️

HeidiWhole · 02/06/2022 09:42

@PlantingTrees I can't remember who it was exactly I saw - it was a link on Instagram. The mycologists on there seem to change their names frequently and don't give away many product details I suppose for obvious reasons. I doubt I'd be allowed to post a link here but if you search for mycologist on Instagram (or anywhere for that matter) there is a lot to see!

PlantingTrees · 02/06/2022 09:59

I’ll have a look. I’m not on Instagram but sure there’ll be other places. I can imagine the growing being a whole part of it. I’ve got small kids tho so would need to figure out a way of making it all safe etc etc and at the moment I have absolutely no spare mental capacity. I’ve had so much going on with illnesses, operation, just too much to even cope with. Anxiety is at an all time high with it all.

WouldBeGood · 02/06/2022 10:05

This is so interesting. I’ve just stumbled across this thread. I’ve heard about this research, and it’s great to read all these points.

In relation to ketamine, I understand that they are now using it in the ER in the US for treating potential trauma.

devonianBiatch · 02/06/2022 10:22

If anybody would like to know more about magic mushrooms, there is a series of talks touring the U.K. . They are advertised on eventbrite and are called seed talks. I’m going to the Liverpool one on the 12th off July.

PlantingTrees · 02/06/2022 10:32

I’ve seen those talks listed! Looks really interesting

greengoose21b · 02/06/2022 12:06

Ooh thanks for posting that @devonianBiatch. I will try and get to one of those talks.

Agree with pp that is a lovely thread. I am so glad to have found it.
