Could Psilocybin cure mental health issues?

NC

I watched a couple of really interning films this weekend. One was 'Fantastic Fungi" and another was 'Magic medicine'. Both were talking about the effects that Psilocybin can have on curing mental health.

(For anyone that does'nt know what Psilocybin is - its the active ingredient in magic mushrooms)

There was an interesting study in the U.K with macrodosing ( large quantities) and I think one is Canada has just started.

I have seen quite a few sites on macro dosing - very small doses ( not enough to get high) and people have been saying that its massively improved their lives.

Psilocybin is actually illegal in this country and thats why its been so hard to even get permission to have these trials/studies.

I am just wondering if people have heard of this or what their views on it were

Thank you

I guess if you’re wanting to come off then anyway, then do that. Then you can see how you feel about microdosing after that.

glasshole · 30/10/2022 09:52

Most anti depressants block the psilocybin from working. So do some allergy tablets. You need tohave at least 3-4 days to get them out of your system before you take any psilocybin. And that obviously brings its own issues so tread very carefully.

Thank you all for your advice Flowers

I just wondered if any of you that have been microdosing could give me some answers to some of my questions as I'm so keen to explore this.

  1. How do you know how much to take? Why 4/0.4mg?
  2. How long have you been taking it for?
  3. Is it for life?
  4. Research has shown the effects can still be there a year after the trial, so why take it every 3-5 days?

Any help with these would be hugely appreciated

I am so happy to have found this thread. I'd love to start experimenting with micro dosing as I've been in a total rut of no feelings for about 6 years now. I don't think I'm in the right place to try even the simplest tek method...because I'm so mentally tired and drained all the time and I think getting it wrong would be such a disappointing setback. Plus I work all the hours God sends. Ironically I might be really into cultivating once I actually start to micro dose and feel a bit more positive about life again. Would love to just get some ready-prepared but it's a risk online...

VioletInsolence · 30/10/2022 21:51

I’ve just bought a syringe of B+ from Mucci Spores and I’m going to use microwave rice to start with. It seems that you can transfer the mycelium into a plastic container or just cut the top off the bag, but that seems a bit wasteful as they just sprout out of the hole and don’t have much space.

It would be so wonderful to be able to calm down my ridiculous brain so that I don’t have to spend hours every day on self-help activities!

@Microcurious just order the syringe and the rice and you’ll have a while to organise the other stuff while it grows. That’s what I’ve told myself to remove the barrier of getting started!

WhisperingJesse · 22/11/2022 14:22

I've just found this thread and I'd be interested to know how everyone is getting on. I'd very much like to start microdosing.

Shroomba · 28/11/2022 17:11

I have an update of sorts!
On the back of this thread I started microdosing (have a friend who owns a farm which provides useful crops of mushrooms!). I’ve found it very helpful in terms of depression and anxiety, and I feel happy much more, but it feels natural and free.

My mother noticed the positive change in me, and I’m a bit of an over sharer, so I discussed it with her, and she said she’d like to try - she has some health issues that are getting her down in her old age. In the last couple of weeks she has more energy, is able to walk the dog every day and can stay awake beyond 8pm! She’s been backward and forward to the drs for months about her energy levels, had loads of blood tests but nothing flagged up.
It’s so lovely to see her get more out her days now.

I keep reading back over this about potentially growing some, it all looks very complicated, but the more I read the more it looks possible.

Microcurious · 28/11/2022 22:01

I'm so jealous - I wish it wasn't so complicated. I can't keep a cactus alive.

TR888 · 29/11/2022 00:01

I've been wanting to try mushrooms for years. I go foraging but can never find any Liberty caps. I'm a little tired and would just like to buy them somewhere. Do the Dutch suppliers of growing Kira sell dry mushrooms? If not , where can I buy them?

So tempted to go to Amsterdam for those retreats...

TR888 · 29/11/2022 00:23

OMG - the cost of those retreats. Nearly $6,500. I bet they're s as maxing though.

TR888 · 29/11/2022 07:30

Im going to get some microdoses from the Netherlands, I think. Thanks for the recommendation. I'll report back!

NigellaWannabe1 · 29/11/2022 09:48

I'd like to try macrodosing too. But I have tried the site recommended here and they don't sell to the UK... I tried another Dutch supplier and it's the same. Help! Where can I buy midrodosing from?

I have tried foraging but for the life of me, I can't find any magic mushrooms. And I know where they grow...

glasshole · 29/11/2022 10:01

I've been on this thread under myceliummamma and I'm still growing my own. Once you get into the swing of it it's really not that difficult and it really is a C rewarding hobby just growing them.

TR888 · 29/11/2022 10:30

Thanks! Can I ask how long it takes before you can harvest the mushrooms? Is it more cost-effective to grow then or to buy them?

Also, have you ever had a high dose?

I'm really struggyto find suppliers that shop to the U.K.

Shroomba · 29/11/2022 10:36

@TR888 there are a few places that sell spores, I’ve found one called SporeBuddies that sell a growing bag, which I’m interested in.

msssm · 29/11/2022 10:44

I would really rather not grow myself it seems too overwhelming to me. Initially anyway.

Does anywhere know of ready made micro doses I can buy to ship to the uk? I'm having no luck finding anywhere.

Thanks in advance 🙏🏻

TR888 · 29/11/2022 10:52

Ok, I've just emailed this company www.earthresonance.com/ and they said they've started shipping to the U.K. this week. It seems a built of a coincidence though..,🤨 Maybe not. I might give them a go but if someone else has any other suggestions, please say!

No suggestions from me, but i google searched them and found positive reviews here on Reddit

ItsMeHiImTheProblem · 01/12/2022 15:31

That's interesting. I'm not interested in growing myself either, I doubt I'd get anywhere and I've little space, but would buy micro dosing like that. Let us know hope you get on if you order?

probablynotthesame · 01/12/2022 16:07

@TR888 great little find there, would be great to hear how you get on.

TR888 · 01/12/2022 17:35

Well, I'm waiting for my delivery with some trepidation. The website is great and they sent me an email to say my delivery will reach me by the end of next week. But I'm uncertain as to what's going to happen once it gets to the U.K. as potentially I'll have to pay additional taxes. I don't mind doing that, but how do I pay for them? I hope they don't open the package...

I'll report back!

I tried to order from them but couldn't work out the payment method!

TR888 · 01/12/2022 21:02

I had that issue and I think it's because they're a EU firm? I might be wrong. In any case, I have a Revolut card and it went fine with it.

I'm really struggyto find suppliers that shop to the U.K.

I force mine on in an incubator set to 27c. So I sterilise my grains, inject my spores or liquid culture and then pop them in the incubator. Full colonisation takes 10-20 days depending on grain, inoculation media ( liquid cutter is quicker as it's already Alive). Then I use a "set and forget "method. I use coir and verm and boiling water to reduce contam. Then when cool I mix the white mushroomy mycelium and colonised grain into an equal amount of the coir/verm. Put it in a plastic shoe box until it's 3/4 full. Press it down gently and add a 1 inch layer of just coir/verm. This is a casng layer to help keep it moist. Flip an identical shoe box upside down and sit it in top to make a green house and use micro pore tape to seal around it. 2 layers is plenty. Then literally leave it. You see the mycelium spread and colonise the substrate and then when you have hyphae notes you can either undo the tape to increase oxygen ( this is called "sending it" ) or just leave it to develop under its own speed. I can get fruit in 20-28 days depending on the strain and the temperature etc. Fruit often lasts 7-10 days wrapped in kitchen roll in the fridge and the used cake can be carefully soaked and will go on to produce more fruit if you look after it. Is not unusual for experienced mycologists to get 4-5 flushes per cake, although the last few are often less and less in terms of size etc.

I have had larger doses. The effects of fresh mushroom is so much better than dried. This is due to the quality of the fresh active ingredients deteriorating as they are dried. Dried is still fine and dandy but fresh gives you such a euphoria and a feeling of peace. I've got around half a Mason jar of dried for emergency usage and have just put a class batch of my favourite strain " Jedi mind Fuck " in to colonise.

My first large dose was life changing. I was lay in the garden in the summer on my couch and the birds started singing an opera just for me. The water hall in pond sounded like the most complex backing band ever and I felt an overwhelming peace and warmth. Then it briefly went cloudy and I was Haitian what I can only describe as a sand show of off the dawn of time, all different civilisations growing out of the sand in this giant sand timer and changing and evolving. Then the sun came out again and told me that I needed to forgive myself. I cried like a baby, it was the most cathartic and healing experience I could have ever asked for. I still microdose but this year I'm much more into fresh over dried. If I don't take anything for 4 months I very much slide down again. I lose that feeling of peace and just feeling like I belong here.
