Would anyone like to start C25K in the New Year that needs some time to get your head together?

Houseplanter · 10/12/2023 17:44

I've done this before and am planning on restarting in January. I've gained some weight and lost some fitness but realistically now is not the time to start.

However I'm not one for last minute things and my head needs to get itself in the right place (and plan a diet). So with this in mind over Christmas and New Year I'm starting in January.

Anyone care to join me?

Also checking in here. Have done an alternative version of c25k but very similar last year. Struggled in the summer heat and due to covid in early autumn I need to try and get back to where I was.
Weighed myself today for the first time since October and am heavier than I want to be, but also my stomach is ridiculous and trousers are all getting too tight.
Will step up with my shuffling and also trying to eat less crap. Off to prepare my overnight oats for tomorrows breakfast.

NewUser1111 · 04/01/2024 22:53

Can I join? I did run 1 last night and found it MUCH harder than I remember finding it either of the last (ahem) two times I’ve tried it. I’m heavier than I’ve ever been which I’m sure doesn’t help. And older. And I felt it. But I would really like to complete this for the first time ever. Hoping we can give each other some moral support.

Browniesandcustard · 05/01/2024 01:40

@NewUser1111 you can repeat the runs as many times as you like before moving onto the next one? Good on you for getting out there and having a go - you can do this!

newbeliever · 06/01/2024 12:24

Welcome to new joiners 😊

I missed my run yesterday but went out this morning and completed W2R2. I think next week is going to be a test for me as back at work and really hard to fit a run in before or after work, especially as it will be dark but I’ve got to find a way to motivate myself!

How is everyone else getting on?

NewUser1111 · 07/01/2024 09:58

Oddly @newbeliever i prefer running in the dark! I’m stupidly self-conscious and don’t like the idea of bumping into people I know while I’m sweating and wheezing!

I went for second run last night and it was much better thanks to finding my sports bra and old trainers that are falling apart but still by far the best option for running

what about everyone else?

kirinm · 07/01/2024 10:17

Do you mind if I join? I've only just started but aside from the last 2 months I was managing a bit of running (still intervals) so I'll start week 3 today.

I have run a couple of half marathons and used to run 4-5 times a week but I had a baby and then lockdown hit and I have never managed to run consistently for 30 mins since.

I've tried to app several times and always fail at week 5 or whenever the long run comes in

I really want this to be the year I get my running back on track (and lose quite a bit of weight),

I'm also going to have to run in the dark - well, one side of work and I can't see me getting up at 6am to run!

Morning everyone..

I think I need someone to give me a firm shove out the door..

I managed the first one and a walk last week but have been sidetracked by the usual weekend stuff, as well some starting some decorating.

I'm also feeling really down about my weight. I know logically I need to do this to help sort it but I just want to hide..

Sorry. Not really feeling it atm

It's really hard and it doesn't help that it's suddenly freezing cold. You do really need to force yourself out to start with but in a couple of weeks it will become habit. Just dig deep to find some motivation.

Get into your gear and see if that helps - if often does for me. I've run (on and off) for years now (mostly off over the last couple of years) and I can always persuade myself not to go.

Just remember - you'll regret not doing it but wont ever regret doing it.

newbeliever · 07/01/2024 20:19

Great to hear there are some fellow ‘dark’ runners! My plan at the moment is to make sure I have all my running gear out and ready tomorrow morning, I think I’m more likely to do it if I go first thing. Need to dig out a thermal layer too, looking cold tomorrow.

@Houseplanter bless you, I totally know how you feel, is there anything g stopping you going out first thing? It’s nice coming back to shower/breakfast, sets you up for the day. Like you if I didn’t go first thing, I’d find it hard to make the time, especually
as I enjoy a bit of tv when I get home from work. I’m planning to start my diet proper tomorrow, how have you got on this week?

@NewUser1111 @kirinm do you wear a reflective band or anything? Im with you on not being seen, it’s the reason I like to go early, but when it”s properly dark, I find it a bit spooky! 😀

newbeliever · 08/01/2024 07:28

Morning everyone. Well I did do my W2R3 this morning. I’d decided before going to bed to run after work as the gritters were out last night and it looked like it was goi
g to be icy this morning. How’s we, got woken by the cat at 6 and when I let him out I noticed it wasn’t frosty at all and didn’t even feel that cold, strange! So ceased the moment and got myself out there, especially when I checked the weather again and they’re forecasting snow flurries after work.

So ladies, with this colder weather, we need to get out there when we can as the weather may have other plans!

I think I pushed myself a bit more this morning but my final 5 min brisk walk was a yrnu g but brisk, more like dragging myself. A k up the hill where I live! 😀

newbeliever · 08/01/2024 07:29

Sorry again for the typos it’s when I post without my glasses on!!

Freda999 · 08/01/2024 08:07

This is me promising to go out this evening. I try to run Monday, Thursday and Saturdays but took my son back to uni this weekend so didn't have time. Well actually I could have made time but I didn't.

I will finish work, walk the dogs then get out for one. Promise.

On the theme of talking myself into/out of a run - I was struggling on Thursday and messaged my daughter to motivate me. She's pretty smart for 14. Her response - Discipline>motivation. Makes sense oh wise one.

OfDragonsDeep · 08/01/2024 10:15

Completed week 6, run 2 yesterday, which has 2 x run 10 mins sections in. Found it hard, but maybe it’s because it was the third day of running in a row. Would like to be able to take rest days in between as they recommend, but have to just go when I have the chance, especially with the kids now back at school.

It was so so cold too, maybe I need a long sleeve top, but I don’t want to get too sweaty 😂

FastingPhilly · 08/01/2024 10:27

Hi all!

Started this last week - seemed so much harder than when I did it before!
On Week 2 this week. But am wimping out until later as it is so cold atm 😁

minipie · 08/01/2024 10:59

Morning all

Well done those who made it out especially in the bitter cold!

I did w5 r2 again today, it’s my first proper week of getting back to it, so might repeat that one once more before I attempt the jump of w5 r3 😬 long sleeve top and thin fleece were needed!

Motivation wise… I am terrible at self motivation and often need to force myself to go. Things I have found helpful

  • having a specific window when I HAVE to run or it won’t be possible (or will be possible but eg tipping down). The days I have more flex, I keep putting it off and somehow it never happens…
  • Putting my headphones in and getting my music started.
  • Telling someone (if only on here!) that I’m going for a run.
  • Remembering how disappointed in myself I feel when I didn’t do it.

All those going later - 💪

BeautBastard · 08/01/2024 12:22

I did my W1 R2 yesterday, it was very chilly but a beautiful day. Did 6 out of 8 runs still wearing my light down jacket. Going to have to skip my rest day and go again today if I want to fit them into a week - I had 3 consecutive rest days last week because the rain was so heavy. I've just got to get myself out the door today - I do feel a bit blue and know it'll make me feel better.

kirinm · 08/01/2024 12:35

I bought some thermal leggings yesterday (which cost a fortune) but it still feels so cold! I'm finding it hard to muster up the will to get out.

Houseplanter · 08/01/2024 12:59

Prepare to be impressed.... 🤣

Out of bed straight in to kit...Lit the log burner and got it really going while I made a pan of low calorie soup..

Out and did a quick w1r2, home, hot shower and soup by the fire. 😊💪

For those wanting thermal leggings Tesco ones are great, and decathlon also do some which are pretty good. Both well under £20.

Well done!!!

Very glad I went earlier as it’s now snowing 😱

NewUser1111 · 08/01/2024 14:12

It’s snowing here too (london) and I’m getting worried about my run tonight!

well done @Houseplanter i am extremely impressed by your soup/run coordination!

I'm SE London and the snow stopped without leaving a trace.

minipie · 08/01/2024 14:39

Yep, no more snow. No excuses Wink

NewUser1111 · 08/01/2024 15:50

yep it’s just bloody freezing!

minipie · 08/01/2024 15:52

Warmer when you’re running! I haven’t solved the cold fingers though… hate running in gloves, but my hands are so cold till half way through the run.
