Would anyone like to start C25K in the New Year that needs some time to get your head together?

I've done this before and am planning on restarting in January. I've gained some weight and lost some fitness but realistically now is not the time to start.

However I'm not one for last minute things and my head needs to get itself in the right place (and plan a diet). So with this in mind over Christmas and New Year I'm starting in January.

Anyone care to join me?

I’m still going, done a 10k recently but it involved some walking for the last few km so I’m aiming to improve that now and run the whole 10k. At the moment I’m running 3 times a week, mixing up easy runs, intervals for speed and a long run. Can’t believe I’m here considering in January I struggled with 60 seconds! I’ve lost a stone and a half too.

I'm still going although a cold and difficulties with breathing (asthma) has knocked me back a bit.

Happierwithouthim · 03/06/2024 07:26

I also ran yesterday with a touch of a cold & I got 5k done but didn't enjoy

MymateDave · 04/06/2024 20:17

Week 2 run 2 complete this evening. Had a peek at week 3 which I will be starting Saturday morning. I see that 3 minute run hidden in there lol

Happierwithouthim · 04/06/2024 22:04

You can do it

Happierwithouthim · 06/06/2024 14:55

I spoke about running to my neighbour earlier & I inspired her to start back 30 mins later met her out doing it. Grin

Did my first ever park run on Sat, wasn't feeling great so wasn't my best day out. Ds was sick yesterday & I took the opportunity to rest.

Set out to do a hilly 10k this eve but cut it short as I just wasn't feeling it, every step seemed to vibrate in my ovaries, garmin said period was due 5 days ago so wish that would hurry on so I get a few decent runs in before my hols at eve of the month.

I am still going, I’ve finished week 8 and I could easily have run a bit longer today but I’m sticking to the programme. I’m enjoying certain elements of it but not others. I am totally amazed at how ‘easy’ it is to run for 28 minutes though, after just a few weeks.

Happierwithouthim · 11/06/2024 19:53

It's a great programme

Magpie50 · 12/06/2024 05:35

I'm up to 45 minutes now (if feeling OK, otherwise I just do the half hour).
I'm also amazed that I'm actually outdoors running on the regular!😂

Wanted to do 7 miles today but wasn't feeling it and got up too late so I did this instead hoping for 7 miles tomorrow eve

I was on this thread at the beginning but had to crash out due to illness/life/work. You guys have all done so well! I'm starting again and have just finished week 1. I will be taking it very slowly! Hoping one day I'll get there and lovely to read all the achievements.

Well done for restarting. I got a cold and it really affected my breathing (I'm asthmatic anyway) and I suddenly stopped being able to run continuously. I've temporarily moved back to week 6 of C25k to try and build back up. I can run for 10 mins easily enough but 30 is not happening at the moment.

Happierwithouthim · 18/06/2024 09:21

I did the 7 miles yesterday evening, it was mentally challenging for mile 3-4, road was freshly done on mile 2-3 which made me nervous, oddly from mile 5 onwards I was just running, I'm getting it done was my motivation.

I have started a half marathon thread, but just said I'd update here as well.
I did my 10k of yesterdays run almost 4 mins quicker than my last 10k.

But every run is still a challenge no less than it was when I was doing c25k Hmm

Sussurations · 18/06/2024 19:55

I was tired on Sat so I did a 20 min run, and then went back to Week 9 today. I don’t think it matters how long it takes, if you want to stick with the programme I’m sure it is achievable, even if it takes months! After all the idea is really to build a new habit. I had a week off when ill and a couple of weeks with a broken toe. So I’m sending good luck to those who’ve had setbacks.

upandoutofbed · 20/06/2024 07:48

Just completed w2r1 - beautiful blue blue skies and friendly dogs and dog walkers. I do love being out, but even at this level I find it really challenging.

@kirinm sorry to hear about your setback, and well done for keeping going - I hope your asthma improves soon. I have a running friend who has moved to jeffing (run walk intervals - think she runs for 3 walks for 2) which apparently has equally great health benefits.

@Sussurations I agree re how long it takes but suspect it may take me years 😂

Sussurations · 20/06/2024 22:16

I finished the last run today! I checked back, I started on 1 April. It feels like I’ve been doing the programme for longer than that lol. Anyway I really do feel quite good about myself but I think more than anything that’s come from just keeping on getting out there and running. So don’t give up @upandoutofbed 😁

Happierwithouthim · 22/06/2024 10:45

Just done my second parkrun
Has anyone ventured to one yet?
I liked this course better, they're both a similar distance from me

upandoutofbed · 24/06/2024 10:40

@Sussurations whoop, well done, what an achievement 🙌. Hope you continue on your running journey from strength to strength.

Just completed a very hot w2r2! Nearly didn't go but so glad I did.

Sussurations · 24/06/2024 22:57

Thank you @upandoutofbed and well done! It’s such a balance of enjoyment and struggle 😁 Im aiming for consistency and stamina so I’m going to continue doing 30 mins twice a week and then either 30 or a bit shorter for my other run, and not worry about getting faster or running longer, just see how it goes. Keep up the good work and thanks for you encouragement!

upandoutofbed · 29/06/2024 09:09

Week 2 run 3 complete. Again had to push myself to go but so worth it - came face to face with a deer.
