Would anyone like to start C25K in the New Year that needs some time to get your head together?

Houseplanter · 10/12/2023 17:44

I've done this before and am planning on restarting in January. I've gained some weight and lost some fitness but realistically now is not the time to start.

However I'm not one for last minute things and my head needs to get itself in the right place (and plan a diet). So with this in mind over Christmas and New Year I'm starting in January.

Anyone care to join me?

Well done @SunMootStars . I’ve done W1R3 this morning, felt ok, though I’m wondering if I’m going really slow with only covering 4k distance.

@CrispsandCheeseSandwich I’m not a fan of being cold, but I find I get warm pretty quickly as soon as the run starts, by the end of the session, I’m unzipping my fleece and tearing my headband off! Layers are key, I’m wearing a long sleeve running tip with a half zip plus a zipped fleece on top, I’m finding that plenty with current temp. If it gets colder, I’ll add a hat and gloves which I can take off if I get hot.

Welcome to @LilianaVikavanovich , how did your run go?

@Houseplanter so I weighed myself this morning, heaviest I’ve ever been at 79.5kg which is 12 and half stone. I’m 5ft 7. I knew it was going to be a lot but still shocked at how I’ve put on 8kg since the summer. I’m not starting diet properly this week as still too many tempting foods around, but I will start with cutting back on my breakfast, alcohol and crisps/snacks and see if that makes any impact at all next Monday. I need to get down to a healthy BMI, I think an initial target of 11 stone would be good and then see if I can then lose another stone but I think my days of weighing 10 stone have gone!

Suddenly feeling a bit overwhelmed and upset that I’ve allowed myself to get this overweight and unfit! Plus wondering how much impact HRT/age is having on my weight too.

Well done @SunMootStars and anyone else who has been out today.

@newbeliever you're a similar height and weight to me, and I too am a bit upset with myself. I lost all this weight about 3 years ago and have gained 1.5 stones (about half of what I lost) since September!

I have been food shopping today and will start my NY diet today, but thanks to too much wine last night I have a whopping headache, and it's starting to rain so I'm wimping out of my first run. I will go tomorrow though.

@Houseplanter if you can go today than go - this was me yesterday and I felt so much better for having gone - you can do this!!

@Houseplanter glad I’m not the only one feeling cross with themselves. 🙂 How have you for on today? Did you go out on your first run? I went on a long walk today once the rain stopped, not so good on the diet but I feel like I’m getting myself mentally geared up, trying to encourage my DH to join in too as he also needs to lose weight.

Due to do first Week 2 run tomorrow, I won’t be able to do my usual ‘first thing’ run as I need to be out early tomorrow so will have to do it later, think I may find that a challenge at a different time of day. I like going out when it’s quiet and no one around to witness my huffing and puffing!!

Houseplanter · 02/01/2024 21:51

@newbeliever it's rained non stop today, at times biblical so I've still not started, BUT tomorrow should be better, and the forecast is loads better. I will def get out tomorrow.

As for the diet, well. Better than it has been, but still masses of room for improvement. Like you I'm in the gearing up stage Wink

Right, I’ve got a child free hour tomorrow so am determined to go for a run. Hoping for dry weather.

Ate the last of the NYE pavlova tonight 😬. Tomorrow is a new day.

newbeliever · 02/01/2024 22:00

@Houseplanter the weather has been pants today . . . If not rain it has been really windy. Hope you’re able to motivate yourself tomorrow to get started.

I’ve downloaded the NHS weight loss app today, never used it before but thought it might be worth giving it a try. I used Noom before which I did find helpful for daily tracking but it costs money and i think the novelty of the app has worn off.

Due to do my weekly shop on Friday so will make sure I’m buying lots of healthy stuff and no biscuits/crisps/chocolate!

Will update tomorrow once I’ve done my run.

Well done Minipie, let us know how you get on.

I’m also with you on finishing the Christmas/NYE goodies before being able to properly start the new healthy eating regime! 😅

minipie · 03/01/2024 13:40

Well, I went! It wasn’t great as almost my first exercise since mid Dec… but I did it. W5 R2.

Hope others planning to get out today managed it too!

Houseplanter · 03/01/2024 14:06

@minipie well done!

I did it too 😀.

I did W1 R1 on one of my old 5k routes, and did the rest of the 5k at a brisk walk so feeling pleased.

It's exactly a year since I finished CT5K last time, and I managed to run all of that route. I was about 20lbs lighter too. I am trying not to dwell on that, and how I have let things slip and just concentrate on what I can do to put it right, but I can't deny I'm upset.

Anyway.. best foot forward (literally). How's everyone else doing.

PS for those of us in England next week looks much kinder weather wise.

Well done everyone! Went for my second run today. Found it harder than the first, think it's because I went after lunch. I might be better going earlier in the mornings.
Weather also looking brighter for the next week and thank goodness. I didn't go yesterday as too wet and windy out.

minipie · 03/01/2024 15:02

Well done both! Yes I definitely find morning easier than afternoon - as long as I’ve had a coffee 😳

mimosa1 · 03/01/2024 16:21

I'm starting at the weekend - I have found my people :) thank you for starting the thread

Noshowlomo · 03/01/2024 18:01

All set to start but the Covid got me. Testing negative today but feel like utter shite and exhausted

newbeliever · 03/01/2024 18:21

Hi everyone, just done my W2R1 run. A real effort to make myself go out when it’s dark … a taste of things to come for me as I’ll be back at work and I will have to do it before/after work. I do prefer mornings as I get back, have a shower + breakfast a d feels a positive start to the day.

Great to her others have been out today too, @minipie well done, that’s great to start back in at W5!

@SunMootStars well done too, I found the second one slightly harder too.

@Houseplanter I feel like you’re my twin 😊 so pleased you started this thread as it’s inspired me to get off my bum and do something about it. We’re all here to check-in on each other and see how we’re doing. Just keep picturing us running in the summer sunshine having completed C25K and hopefully being 1 or 2 stone lighter too!

@Noshowlomo hope you're feeling better soon. I’d start with some brisk walks first if you’re just getting over covid. My husband had it over Xmas and he’s struggling to walk at any pace at the moment.

Welcome to @mimosa1 too!

LilianaVikavanovich · 03/01/2024 19:58

Did my second run this morning , first go , I forgot the treadmills in the gym are set for 30 mins ( you can add time on , but I’m not that organised )
I managed just over 3 kilometres , walking and running ( couldn’t get C25K downloaded for some reason )
This morning , much better 3.2 k or 2 miles in 27 minutes , running 4 mins and walking in between
Feeling good , we’re all doing so well

Browniesandcustard · 04/01/2024 07:38

That’s fab @LilianaVikavanovich I’m just off to do wk2 run 1 …. we’ll that’s if I shift my arse to find my trainers….!

Houseplanter · 04/01/2024 10:31

No run for me today but I am going to do a 5k brisk walk. I enjoy walking a lot more than running and do walk fast enough to get my HR up.

I weighed this morning again and I'm another pound heavier. Feeling a bit gutted tbh.

Houseplanter · 04/01/2024 10:33

@Browniesandcustard @LilianaVikavanovich that must've been a chilly start!

Well done; getting out of bed and out in to the cold takes some determination. Bet you feel great now though 😊

Browniesandcustard · 04/01/2024 10:45

@Houseplanter it was ok until I threw up half way round - think I drank too much water before I went. But yes, felt better for getting up and doing it 😎

Houseplanter · 04/01/2024 11:03

Oh no @Browniesandcustard how horrible for you!

I'm always wary of drinking too much beforehand as I'm afraid of other errr, accidents 😳; I hadn't considered vomiting

BeautBastard · 04/01/2024 13:34

Hello Everyone, well done to all whatever stage/run you're at. I did my first run yesterday evening and felt pretty wheezy after a few runs but ultimately good afterwards. Think I need to make some good, upbeat playlists on spotify now.

OfDragonsDeep · 04/01/2024 14:32

Did W5 R2 the other day, it was fine. Carried on and did a mix of jogging/walking to make the 5k. Did it in 41mims which I was pleased with as a first attempt.

Run 3 is the run 20 mins without walking though. Might give it a go tomorrow if the weathers ok.

Em3978 · 04/01/2024 16:28

I've not gone out for a run yet. I've realised how unfit 3x covid last year has left me, so I'm starting with some longer/brisker walks than i've been doing. I'll get there!

newbeliever · 04/01/2024 17:24

Great to hear everyone’s updates. @Browniesandcustard i’ve felt like this before after drinking too much water, I now only have a small glass before going out, think I read somewhere it can help prevent stitch. I drink a lot when I get back, can’t be bothered to lug a water bottle round with me!

I haven’t run today but I have done a 5k walk, not sure it was that brisk! I’m aiming to walk the days that I’m not running so I do something everyday - plus I’m thinking the more I move the more it will help when I start my diet properly next week. The weight doesn’t fall off like it used to so need to be upping my activity levels to help with this too. The only issue then is that exercising makes me hungry!
