Would anyone like to start C25K in the New Year that needs some time to get your head together?

I've done this before and am planning on restarting in January. I've gained some weight and lost some fitness but realistically now is not the time to start.

However I'm not one for last minute things and my head needs to get itself in the right place (and plan a diet). So with this in mind over Christmas and New Year I'm starting in January.

Anyone care to join me?

wk4 run2 done. So far so good.

but can I just say...that moment when a really perfect running track comes on and your app says 'now walk'?
argh!!😆

Well done all for your achievements.

Completed W6R1 two days ago, I did struggle but didn't stop. Going for W6R2 ad midday today.

For last 3 days, have been paying more attention to diet. As I am running I am imagining how much easier it would be if I were 3 stones lighter.

I can confirm it is, I tried returning to running when I was about 15st, and had to give up, I'm now 11st 12.5lbs and can manage and know it'll be better when I'm lighter

Thank you, well done on your weight loss. I am 14.4 and it is really tough.

I managed W6R2 today which is 2 x 10 mins runs but I felt every minute of that second run. I'll repeat W6 before moving on to 7.

Beautiful weather finally today though.

Happierwithouthim · 11/04/2024 16:47

You'll get there with weight loss too, I'm going running with a friend, it's been years since we ran together I'm like a child I'm that excited, weather is rubbish here but rain seems to be gone so we will be able to go

onawave · 11/04/2024 17:04

Onto W5 R3 tomorrow. Congratulations you ran for 8 minutes, now let's see you do 20. Excuse me? What?

minipie · 11/04/2024 21:30

I know right??? w5 r3 is insane. But the funny thing is, you actually can do it by this point. You slow right down and just keep on plodding even when you feel like argh bloody hell I need that walk. That’s the point, it’s teaching you mind over body, that you can do it if you make yourself.

Best of luck onawave, you can do it!

It just creeps up on you right?

We did 5k in 40 mins, ran some walked some talked some, really enjoyed catching up.

henlake7 · 13/04/2024 10:35

Just done wk4 r3....not looking forward to wk 5!

Also my stupid phone updated and totally farked up the volume on my ipods and they keep muting themselves. I had to run with no music and Sarah Millican shouting at me from out of my bumbag!!😆
Really dont like doing it with no music though.....next time I'll just whack the volume up and let everybody listen to sounds of the 80's (and appreciate what a sad ol' bag I am!!LOL).

Also saw 4 other runners this morning....all fellow ladies of a certain age!😊

Happierwithouthim · 15/04/2024 19:17

Last Thurs I did run/walk 5k with my friend took us 40mins today I ran it with my dog on running lead 34:30, fastest 5k yet but I expect I'll get that record a lot as I'm training for half marathon. Happy with that.

teddybearsbear · 17/04/2024 07:24

W4r1 for me yesterday it felt like a big step up from 3 minutes to 5 and I struggled to keep going without slowing down not helped by it hail stoning on me half way round despite setting off in the sun!

Anyway I guess I have another two attempts at it to build up My stamina!

Houseplanter · 18/04/2024 09:08

Just thought I'd pop back on to say I've just heard Jo Whiley talking about the new updates to the app.. apparently it goes beyond 5k now... 😳

Just did 'that run' in wk 5. Not as bad as I thought....and I even ran through the cooldown as well so 25mins in total!😀

Happierwithouthim · 19/04/2024 11:15

Well done @henlake7 , I found once I could do that the longer ones weren't as daunting anymore

Happierwithouthim · 22/04/2024 19:40

I underestimated my weeks to half marathon by 5 weeks yesterday was delighted when I figured it out today. Found an editable excel calendar online so plotting my mileage on that now Smile

kirinm · 11/05/2024 13:07

Is everyone still going? I'm running 2-4 times a week depending on availability. Still struggling to get to 5k but I've started the extended version of c25k.

At the beginning of the year I just wanted to be able to run outside again after years of not running. And I've achieved that.

Happierwithouthim · 12/05/2024 10:36

Not getting out as often as I'd like but building mileage slowly

Kirin you've come so far, we all have from not running to get out there & doing it

It helps that dc are that bit older now so I don't need to arrange someone to have them in order to go running & also they spend time at their dads regularly too.
Then the only obstacle is myself Grin

Happierwithouthim · 23/05/2024 14:17

Running is finally becoming easier I'm finding my rhythm Smile

MymateDave · 26/05/2024 07:57

Hi guys. I’m on week 1 and just completed my 2nd run. Any tips? I’m 16 stone and 60 seconds was hell lol. I used to be slim and run years ago. I’m hoping to get like that again

Happierwithouthim · 26/05/2024 08:25

On the running part go as slow as you can without walking, you might not be going as fast as you would walking but you're getting your body used to it

Sussurations · 26/05/2024 10:08

I’m new to the thread (hello!) and finished week 6 yesterday. I’m enjoying it so much I’ve just run 15 mins this morning for extra fun!!!

My tip is to find your natural cadence (step rate) then try to run at that rate as slowly as you naturally can, so you dont go too fast, over stride and tire yourself. Shorten steps instead of making fewer steps, if that makes sense.

Happierwithouthim · 26/05/2024 17:39

1:09:57 for 10k today
I'm going to start doing parkruns to improve my speed. I ran the first mile in 10:31 & was going at 9:35mins/mile until I slowed myself down would I have been able to keep this pace up for 5k?

Thank you. Started week 2 this morning. Went slower and managed to complete it. I feel amazing!!

Happierwithouthim · 01/06/2024 11:09

That's great @MymateDave a friend of a friend took me out running about 11.5 years ago at the time I was stopping and starting & able to run about 4k without stopping she took control listened to my breathing told me when to slow down and not stop and I ended up running I think 8k without stopping that day.

I still follow her advice to this day
