Would anyone like to start C25K in the New Year that needs some time to get your head together?

I've done this before and am planning on restarting in January. I've gained some weight and lost some fitness but realistically now is not the time to start.

However I'm not one for last minute things and my head needs to get itself in the right place (and plan a diet). So with this in mind over Christmas and New Year I'm starting in January.

Anyone care to join me?

Did week 2 run 3 today, was fine. I am a bit worried about how it will ramp us though! I need the walks!

WhatsInStoreFor2024 · 16/12/2023 18:36

The transition to 20 min straight run is a bit much imo but feels great when it's done!

OfDragonsDeep · 16/12/2023 23:51

I can’t imagine me doing that, but I suppose I couldn’t i
me doing any of it to start with so maybe it’ll work out!

Houseplanter · 21/12/2023 09:40

I'm thinking of starting next week instead of new year week - or at least getting out for some seriously brisk walking to start me off. I'm already feeling fatter and lethargic from too many mince pies and coffees while out shopping and glasses of wine in the evening

Not only do I need to do CT5K I need a diet overhaul.

How's everyone else doing?

I also need a diet overhaul, but I don't know where to start.

I watched an Instagram story of a woman I follow who went for a run and said it was super hard but she felt amazing after, and I think that's a good thing to keep in mind for me as I have done running before and know what she means - you feel epic when it's done, you just have to move your butt to get it out the door!

Have asked for gym/running clothes for Christmas and hoping that gives me some motivation...

WhatsInStoreFor2024 · 21/12/2023 16:14

I have night shifts coming up....7 nights straight so will start after them I think

OfDragonsDeep · 21/12/2023 16:27

I did week 3 run 1 the other day, has 3 mins of running which felt like a bit of a leap from 90 secs, but I did it! Have finished work now so hopefully will get the next 2 done before Christmas. Hopefully this wind will die down as that will stop my plans.

I started this plan as part of a health/diet overall in Sept. I totally gave up alcohol in November and have been eating better/going to the gym. I feel much better for it.

cinnamonbiscuit · 21/12/2023 16:34

Can I join? Have completed couch to 5k twice before (once in 2017 and again in 2020 lockdown) but have since had two children and desperately need to get back into it and get some fitness back! Husband runs marathons and I feel like a mess in comparison 😅 although I have been through two pregnancies so shouldn't feel too bad I suppose.

It'll be a struggle as 4 month old is still waking at night but I'm determined!

Houseplanter · 21/12/2023 17:02

Hello @cinnamonbiscuit !

My husband also runs and makes me feel totally inadequate (not deliberately). He also eats what he likes and never gains weight

(I know, likely connected 😂)

I'm in - loved C25k first time I did it but lost my way after, then had a fall and couldn't walk for ages let alone run, then long covid. Time to give it another go and get moving again. Luckily (?!) I'm really stressed at the moment so keep feeling the urge to run!

OfDragonsDeep · 23/12/2023 11:59

Just did week 3 run 2, it was windier today which made it a bit harder, but I didn’t give up. Think I will do the last one tomorrow, but then not sure with Christmas, but we’re at home after Boxing Day, so I’m sure I’ll be able to find time there somewhere!

Houseplanter · 23/12/2023 12:07

Well done @OfDragonsDeep I'm impressed! I completely agree windy weather makes it harder so well done.

I'm still fully intending to get started soon.. my contribution to the effort is looking for a new sports bra and leggings in the sales, which I'm sure will start in the next few days.

May I join you?

I lost a lot of weight this year and got much fitter (very long walks, spin classes etc.). Now I feel it is time to bite the bullet and start running. I'll be mega slow but it will be interesting to see if I can manage it!

Browniesandcustard · 27/12/2023 06:42

Please may I join also? I did start a couple of weeks ago but then Christmas got in the way and I need to start again.

Itsthattime11 · 27/12/2023 08:38

Can I join please?

I did this a few years ago, got all the way to W9R2, and then fell pregnant. Dc is now 2.5 and I've really not got into it again (made some half hearted attempts!) But 2024 is the year I lose 3 stone and get my fitness back!

OfDragonsDeep · 27/12/2023 17:57

Did week 4, run 1 yesterday. It included 2 x 5 mins running and was fine! Tried to make sure I was taking my time and it went well.

Em3978 · 27/12/2023 18:05

I've been contemplating it again. I must have done it about 4 times over the years, but had to give up due to fibromyalgia and a hip problem.

I was thinking of starting up again in the new year, but maybe with brisk walking instead of running. I'll have to see how I go!

Browniesandcustard · 28/12/2023 08:24

I’ve been out this morning and made a start 😳😂

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 28/12/2023 08:28

Yes please! I did this previously and was amazed at how much progress I was able to make in just a few weeks. However, I didn't finish... got to around week 6 and then got covid which completely knocked me off track. I think I might need a week 0 to work up to week 1 as I am so terribly unfit right now, but I'm definitely up for trying!

Houseplanter · 28/12/2023 09:10

Morning everyone!
@Browniesandcustard well done; hope you had the wind behind you.. it's horrible out there.

So my search for new leggings and sports bra in the sale was unsuccessful but I've decided to make do with what I already have and buy new once I'm a svelte, fit runner 🤣🤣. Let's hope they last an eternity 😆

Not long to go now until I start for real.. and I must brave the scales before then and know where I'm starting from with that too.

@OfDragonsDeep just noticed you've kept it up over Christmas... hats off to you.

Don't stop now!

Browniesandcustard · 28/12/2023 09:21

@Houseplanter I managed to get out before the rain hit - obviously I planned that 😂😂

newbeliever · 28/12/2023 18:37

@Houseplanter i’d love to join too. Completed it twice before in 2020 and 2022. However, since completing it in 2022 my weight has gone up to the heaviest I have ever been which in turn has made me feel uninterested in keeping fit. I’ve started HRT in the last few months and I finally feel that I have a tiny bit of motivation to get going again . . . Plus a looming beep test I need to pass in mid Feb. I did W1R1 today, managed it, didn’t feel too bad and actually enjoyed it in the main, felt good to be doing something to improve my health. Planning to run every other day as I need to raise my fitness quickly ready for the beep test. Planning to start a diet too, but I won’t attempt that until the new year when all the Christmas drink/nibbles have gone from the house!

newbeliever · 28/12/2023 18:42

@Houseplanter i also need to brave the scales but I’m being a chicken at the moment. I know all my clothes are tight, usually I start to diet when my size 12 jeans are tight, but I bought size 14 pairs earlier this year and they are now starting to feel tight too.

Houseplanter · 28/12/2023 18:46

Hello @newbeliever Im planning to brave the scales over the weekend, try and be reasonably sensible until Monday when I intend to start in earnest. I've gained a stone recently and really feel it should come off asap else it will never shift.

I've completed the programme once before, so at least we know it works. We can do this 💪
