Would anyone like to start C25K in the New Year that needs some time to get your head together?

I've done this before and am planning on restarting in January. I've gained some weight and lost some fitness but realistically now is not the time to start.

However I'm not one for last minute things and my head needs to get itself in the right place (and plan a diet). So with this in mind over Christmas and New Year I'm starting in January.

Anyone care to join me?

Waves shyly to everyone Smile I can't run! But I'd love to give this a try. Can someone please send a screenshot of the right app to use?
Then maybe I will look for some running shoes in the sales Blush

Seriously79 · 28/12/2023 18:50

Before I commit, how many times a week do you run? Am I able to do it on a treadmill?

Houseplanter · 28/12/2023 18:54

@Seriously79 @SunMootStars

I've attached a pic of the app. There's 3 runs a week but you can do them to suit yourself. Last time I did it I did 4 some weeks.. dependant on life, the weather etc. you can repeat some too.

Yes I think a treadmill would work!

@SunMootStars you can definitely do this. You might need to do things a bit slower, or you mind find it ok. But there is magic in that app..Wink

Thank you so much! I am really really unfit, but I'm feeling determined! This thread has already been inspiring me and I'm still very much on the couch here Xmas Grin

newbeliever · 28/12/2023 20:08

@Houseplanter thanks for the encouragement. I wish I had a stone to lose but fear it’s probably over 2 stone. I’ve never gone much over 11 stone but I think I’m well over 12 going by now tight my clothes are. Will try to focus on being healthy rather than weight but I know I need to lose at least a stone to get down to a healthy BMI. Plus if I do t do it. Is it will be a slippery slope!

@SunMootStars @Seriously79 the hardest run is the first one and motivating yourself to start. When I completed it before, I did repeat some weeks if I felt I wasn’t comfortably completing the run by the third time. It really is a great plan to follow and it’s an amazing feeling to be able to run (slow jog 😀) non stop for 25-30mins within a matter of weeks. Go on, you can do it . . . I’m seriously unfit and managed ok today 😊

newbeliever · 28/12/2023 20:10

excuse the spelling mistakes and typos … should be wearing my glasses but too lazy to get off the bed and go downstairs and get them!

Changingplace · 30/12/2023 09:33

Hello!! I came looking for a C25k thread and here you all are :)

I’ve done it before and actually really enjoyed it once I got going so I’m starting again, I really have no reason whatsoever why I shouldn’t go out today and get started. Anyone else heading out today?

Changingplace · 30/12/2023 09:36

There’s three runs a week and they suggest a day off in between but really it’s totally up to you how often you run, and if you need to repeat runs just do it.

And yes you can do it on a treadmill or out on the road, totally up to you.

newbeliever · 30/12/2023 12:20

@Changingplace hi there! Go on, start today 😀 I’ve just been out for my W1R2, had to force myself but feel much better for it. I’m trying to keep up with going every other day. The only thing that would stop me is torrential rain or snow/ice. Didn’t have any of those excuses today!

newbeliever · 30/12/2023 12:21

@Houseplanter what day are you planning to start next week, 1 Jan?

Houseplanter · 30/12/2023 14:46

@newbeliever I will start on Jan 1st so long as it's not too wet and windy. I can cope with a bit of light rain but I draw the line at wind and rain..

My diet def starts on the 1st though.

Hey, well done on getting out! I find half the battle is just leaving the house!

I’ve made a start, first run done 😁

WashItTomorrow · 30/12/2023 16:18

I might join you. I have done it before, successfully, but then I’ve been ill. I tried again a while back but injured my ankle, and that set me back. This time I think I’ll try a treadmill in an effort to protect my joints more.

Em3978 · 30/12/2023 17:32

So I've downloaded the NHS app, ordered myself some new earbuds (my son lost the last ones) and am mentally preparing myself to go out in the horrific weather we've been having.

newbeliever · 30/12/2023 19:01

Well done @Changingplace getting the first run done! I logged the run on my Fitbit today, was interesting to see my route, how puffed out I got and how much distance I covered which was just under 4k.

Go for it too @Em3978@WashItTomorrow I’m using the NHS app I like Laura’s encouraging tone 😊 I’ve bought some new running leggings this afternoon, felt self conscious in my old black ones this morning, thought the Lycra may have gone a bit see through, not the best look 😂 I should think a treadmill would work well, good idea to take it easy on your joints and see how you get on. I’ve been on HRT for 3 months now and it suddenly dawned on me the other day that my joints no longer hurt first thing or when I get up after sitting for a while. There’s no way I would have felt like going for a run first thing earlier on this year!

@Houseplanter i’ll join you too on the weight loss on Monday. I haven’t weighed myself yet, will report weight and target on Monday. Planning to log what I eat through my fitness pal, I’m not expecting to lose a lot the first week as too many goodies in the house, but will make a start and try to cut back a bit before starting proper on 8 Jan. I’ll find it easier to stick to when I’m back at work and not hanging around at home hoovering up all the Christmas chocs!

Anyone else managed a run yet? @SunMootStars@Seriously79 have you gone for it?

OfDragonsDeep · 30/12/2023 19:23

I’ve finished week 4 now, going to do week 5, run 1 tomorrow. Run 3 of this week is run for 20 mins!

I bought some running trainers too. They’re so comfortable compared to the old ones i was wearing before.

Well done to everyone completing runs!

newbeliever · 30/12/2023 19:37

@OfDragonsDeep wow well done, especially starting before the festive season! W5R3 feels like a real achievement, 20mins without stopping, I can remember thinking that there was no way I would be able to do it and amazed myself when I did! Good luck for next week, keep us posted. I think I may need new trainers too, it’s expensive this running lark!

Houseplanter · 30/12/2023 20:11

Ladies if we start this week we will have completed 9 weeks by the first week in March. (Of course it may take some of us a little longer).

So if we brave the rubbish weather we will be able to trundle jog 5k by the time spring is here, and for those of us wanting to lose some weight we could also be in a different dress size

Let's hold that thought 💪

That is a fab way of looking at it! I'm going to hang on to that thought

@newbeliever tomorrow is going to be my day 1. I meant to go today but just couldn't face the weather. I'm going to keep posting here though to shame myself into keeping it up!!!

Browniesandcustard · 30/12/2023 21:15

@Houseplanter thats a fab way of thinking about it! I’m doing Wk1 Day 3 tomorrow 😎

newbeliever · 31/12/2023 08:59

@Houseplanter that’s a great way to look at it, will definitely be holding onto that thought!

Good luck for your first run today @SunMootStars

LilianaVikavanovich · 31/12/2023 09:41

Hi , joining in if I may
I came on here looking for a C25K thread , and luckily I found you ✅

I’ve downloaded the app , chose Steve Cram as my coach and will start today ( making use of my gym membership )

DSIS and I did an out door C25k in our local park , run by a running club which was good fun , but …. Remember that boiling hot week in May ? That was our last week and we ran our 5 K ( there were about 25 of us , mostly middle age / older determined looking women , swearing under their breath as we made it )

We carried on outside , until we missed 3 mornings because of the weather and now we’re on treadmills instead

I’ll see how it goes this morning , after a bit of an excessive Christmas

Anyone else want to be motivated but just hate the cold?

Yes! But remember you will really warm up after a couple of mins.
So I did my first official workout this morning!! Feeling very proud of myself- it was very do-able with the app. I brought my 9 year old daughter along on her scooter for encouragement.

Imagining myself being "a runner" by the summer really helped.
