Would anyone like to start C25K in the New Year that needs some time to get your head together?

I've done this before and am planning on restarting in January. I've gained some weight and lost some fitness but realistically now is not the time to start.

However I'm not one for last minute things and my head needs to get itself in the right place (and plan a diet). So with this in mind over Christmas and New Year I'm starting in January.

Anyone care to join me?

Ooo this just popped up in active. I've just done the first two runs, Sat & Mon. Very encouraging to read all your comments!

Well done! First few weeks are the hardest in terms of keeping motivation up (in my experience).

Happierwithouthim · 19/03/2024 16:26

Daffodill best of luck with it!
I'm starting W7 tonight, which is 25 mins of running which I did on Sunday as W6R3 also. I've finally bought a running belt for my phone as I tried to find my one from 7 years ago after 2 house moves and I couldn't, it'll show up now that I've bought another one Smile no more carrying it!

Happierwithouthim · 19/03/2024 17:21

Should have checked weather forecast before posting, no run for me this eve Sad

Yayyy! I’m doing my third one on Thursday 😊

Happierwithouthim · 20/03/2024 13:09

@henlake7 I tried to get back into running a few years ago and felt the weight with every step promised myself I'd start again at 12st and I did & I'm fine now!

newbeliever · 20/03/2024 22:22

Hi everyone, as I suspected, I’ve been so busy with packing my house up, running has slipped off the schedule! Got removals in tomorrow to do pre load and then moving day on Friday. I can’t see me getting out for a a few days, I’m exhausted, mentally and physically. Excited to try some new routes though, only moving a mile away but it’s the other side of the hill to where I usually run 😀 lots of lovely flat running territory! 🤣

Happierwithouthim · 21/03/2024 15:26

Newbeliever I once moved next door but it wasn't a sale situation so didn't have the pressure you have. New & existing routes are options so!

I did W7R1 today in the 25 min run section on W6R3 I covered 2.03 miles average pace 12.15min miles & today 2.14miles average space 11.31min miles. It felt so much tougher but now an hour later I'm delighted I did it.

I'm thinking I might try parkrun in two weeks time, I'll be visiting my parents & there's one local to them.

kirinm · 23/03/2024 12:13

W9R1 done. I managed an extra 3 minutes but I found that hard on my lungs. Just under 4.5km so I think it'll be close to 37mins for a 5km

minipie · 23/03/2024 14:02

Checking in. I’m limping along doing about 1 run every 10 days 😬 but other exercise in between so fitness doesn’t tail off too badly. Just did w6 r2 which was ok. Hoping to do more frequent runs once the weather improves

tryingcouchto5K · 24/03/2024 09:51

Well done all. I've completed W4. I peeked at W5 looks like 3 x 5-min runs, that will be a challenge, I found the 5 min runs quite tough. Hopefully will start W5 tomorrow.

I did a bit of cycling and cross trainer too after my last run and since, my front lower pelvis is really sore like when I had children over a decade ago! I may have overdone it. I'll stick to the run and arm exercises for a week I think.

Good luck for this week all, lighter nights are on the way and hopefully, the weather is picking up.

Well done. Keep going. Every week feels like a hurdle. In fact every run!

kirinm · 24/03/2024 11:09

W9R2 done. I can manage 4km in 30 mins so I'm not going to manage 5km anytime soon but I'm happy to be one run away from the end.

I'll definitely stick with week 9 as motivation until it stops feeling so hard!

That was roughly the same as me. I just decided to push through the last run and get to 5k, took 42 mins.
That was 2 weeks ago. Just done my 2nd 5k in 39 minutes.
I think it’s more mental at this point.

Happierwithouthim · 25/03/2024 09:51

Kirin is running too fast causing lung burn? Would slowing the pace a little help?
I did W7R2 on Sat & found it fairly tough going but when I looked at my stats I'd covered more ground in the running time so that's probably why! I don't always love running while I'm doing it but I love the feeling of achievement afterwards.

Yesterday it looked like rain so bf & I didn't think we'd get a walk in, but we went and ended up walking almost 6 miles over different types of terrain.

Near me there's a 5k route but I'd need the dog on the lead for some of it, at the moment I'm going out and back because I don't have her on the lead for it, lead will bother me when running, in another few weeks I'll be doing that hopefully.

trying it's all challenging because we're progressing with every week, but you get through it and get it done. It really is a good programme.

freshstart well done!

Well done on your run!

I'm asthmatic. Sometimes I'm fine, sometimes I'm not. I've not worked out why sometimes I wheeze but it's all pretty much the same speed.

Happierwithouthim · 25/03/2024 11:44

Sorry I had forgotten that kirin Flowers

newbeliever · 26/03/2024 11:15

Hi everyone, I’m back 😊 still haven’t run though! The last week has been a packing/unpacking frenzy with our house move! Still got loads to do but I need to get back to my running. It’s been over a week since I last went out and I’ve got the ‘fear’ that my body will have forgotten what to do! I think I might drop back to 25min runs and see how that feels.

Happierwithouthim · 26/03/2024 11:44

new it won't but the first run might be tougher!

I think you'll surprise yourself and will be fine but just see how you go! Hope the move went well.

I don't think I'll run until Thursday and that'll be the app completed (hopefully)! Weather is not ideal.

@kirinm fingers crossed I surprise myself. I have been active, managed. 20000 steps a day with the prep for moving plus moving, which was amazing. The weather definitely isn’t on my side this afternoon! You’re doing really well, almost a graduate!

tryingcouchto5K · 27/03/2024 08:25

Did the W5R1 last night. 3 x 5 mins runs surprised to have completed it without being too out of breath. Felt like quite an accomplishment as, including the walks, it was just short of 3K. JW said, next run changes and I took a look and it's two 8 min runs! Will attempt W5R2 tomorrow. Goal is a park run.

Good luck to everyone with their runs.

Happierwithouthim · 27/03/2024 09:03

Excellent trying my method is to say it's this number of songs and don't check my watch too often to see what I've done, sometimes I look and think is that all, and other times I'm almost done.

Thought I'd run on Fri morn but now I've to be at work for 7:30 so I don't think that will happen.

Parkrun is my next goal.
