Would anyone like to start C25K in the New Year that needs some time to get your head together?

I've done this before and am planning on restarting in January. I've gained some weight and lost some fitness but realistically now is not the time to start.

However I'm not one for last minute things and my head needs to get itself in the right place (and plan a diet). So with this in mind over Christmas and New Year I'm starting in January.

Anyone care to join me?

I need to psych myself up to go tonight but even as I write this I sort of know that’s not going to hqppen…! Not even home from work yet, it’s cold and drizzly and I’m tired…

newbeliever · 28/02/2024 21:32

@kirinm @NewUser1111 I’m the same, if I don’t go first thing it’s unlikely to happen, especially if I’m working. Make sure you have your running gear ready by your bed, so you get up and out first thing 😊

I take my daughter to dance classes on a Saturday morning and then usually use it as a chance to run but it's absolutely pouring. I'm sat in the car and don't think I can bring myself to get soaking wet yet.

kirinm · 02/03/2024 11:10

I did it. W7R2. Managed it a bit faster although not deliberately. I wonder when it will start to get easier?! (I'm soaked).

Well done @kirinm , it’s an effort to go out in the rain isn’t it?! It will get easier, I definitely have good runs and hard runs where I’m not enjoying it at all.

I went out this morning and completed W8R1. Amazed myself as I enjoyed it, did a different route and made sure I had some good music lined up. I was so lost in it I didn’t think about where I was, I was enjoying running in a new area, then found I was a good few miles from home when the run ended! I carried on running for a few minutes longer, pretty sure I was close to 30mins. I then walked for a few minutes and noticed I wasn’t out of breath, I think I could have run again but I didn’t want to push it too much, just enjoyed the walk back in semi sun, I was soaked too! 😀

kirinm · 02/03/2024 13:45

@newbeliever well done 👏

My issue is still my breathing. My asthma will eventually improve with running but at the moment at about 10-15 mins in, I start to wheeze and find it hard to control my breathing at that point.

You will get there @kirinm stick with it and go at the pace you need to go. Every run is making a difference. 😊

My husband commented this morning that I’ve stopped snoring! 😂 I’m wondering if that is a result of running too??! I’m definitely sleeping better and not getting cramp in the night.

kirinm · 04/03/2024 09:58

I did W7R3 today and managed it and about 15 seconds faster per km. By the 12 minute mark I'm counting down the time to finishing!

NewUser1111 · 04/03/2024 10:00

Well done everyone. You’re all speeding ahead! I’ve been knocked out by a bug and have been in bed for days so going to need to start back on week 4 I think (again! Argh!)

My sickness bug knocked me for six. I'm sure you'll start to feel better soon but I underestimated how wiped out I felt.

I'm still musing what I'll do after c25k and I think I might just keep doing week 9 until I feel much more comfortable with 30 mins. I think I'd probably do a 5km in 37 mins based on current time which is still quite a lot more than 30!

newbeliever · 04/03/2024 13:24

Well done @kirinm a good time too!

I completed W8R2 this morning, found it harder today, the middle section was tough and then I found my rhythm again. I was going a tiny bit faster than normal as completed 5k in 35mins and I’m normally 37mins. I also felt hot, went out with a fleece on and soon regretted that decision!

When I finish, I think I’m going to keep repeating W9 until it starts to feel more comfortable and then see if I can increase my pace to complete it in 30mins. When I’ve reached that goal, I’ll think about what next.

Keep going @NewUser1111 and don’t worry if you need to repeat runs /weeks. I’ve had a couple of slow weeks where I’ve needed to repeat due to illness or the weather. I started this just after Christmas, so should be finished by now but I’m still a week or two away depending how the next few runs go.

kirinm · 04/03/2024 13:27

Your time is really good @newbeliever ! Well done.

I've also taken the scenic route with the app too. I've had at least 2 weeks where I've only run once. Running after the school drop off is the only way for me. I just cannot be trusted to do it later in the day!

Happierwithouthim · 04/03/2024 14:29

I failed to run at all last week, and storm promised for when I was meant to run this evening so that's not looking promising either. I bought a garmin vivosport5, wanted to use coach programme on it but have to start at week1, anyone know a way around this?

Happierwithouthim · 05/03/2024 19:47

Tried to run this eve failed miserably TOM and my tummy is dodgy since Sat night, I gave up after 6 mins

kirinm · 05/03/2024 22:50

@Happierwithouthim take it as a rest day and try again when you feel better. Well done for at least getting out.

Happierwithouthim · 07/03/2024 19:07

W6R1 done & felt grand doing it. Smile
I love that I've gotten this part of my life back.

cinnamonbiscuit · 07/03/2024 20:00

Hope everyone is on track and enjoying it 💪 I finally did w5r3 today after dodging it for the last week or so, every time I did the previous run it felt too hard but I bit the bullet today. It was totally fine, don't know why I waited!

kirinm · 07/03/2024 21:36

Well done both! That 20 mins is such a mental run I think.

I'm aiming to run tomorrow but have terrible DOMS from personal training so it'll be a slog I thinks

newbeliever · 07/03/2024 22:25

Great to hear some other updates, well done @Happierwithouthim! Isn’t it funny how we often have a good run after a not so good run?! Well done @cinnamonbiscuit such an amazing feeling to break the 20min barrier!

I haven’t run since Monday, need to run tomorrow, always feel a bit anxious when I have had a gap of more than a couple of days, like my body will have forgotten what to do! 😅 @kirinm you are doing so well to be running and fitting in your personal training!!

I hope everyone has good runs tomorrow, time to go to bed!

Happierwithouthim · 08/03/2024 08:50

Deffo psychological, I was lucky I hadn't looked ahead to the plan and suddenly I was on W5R3 and I just did it!!

Enjoy todays running guys

kirinm · 08/03/2024 09:39

Despite telling myself I didn't have to complete it today because of how sore I am, I just ran for 28 mins! W8R1 done. Woohoo! I think I would've managed 30 mins tbh but there are still 2 runs to go before I get there.

kirinm · 08/03/2024 09:44

Actually feeling really pleased with that run. Slightly faster and I could easily have backed out as I have PT today so I know I'm getting exercise in.

I really would like to complete the app by the end of next week. 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Ahh really well done! I felt like that too, I was surprised when I felt like I could keep going! You must be feeling amazing! I haven’t run yet, need to go after work!

kirinm · 08/03/2024 14:49

@newbeliever good luck for your run later 🤞🏻. This is your last of week 8 isn't it?

Yes, it is! Hopefully finish next week too 😊 Now I need to take a leaf out of your book and introduce some other exercise on the days I’m not running, only walking at the mo but would like to do some strengthening/toning exercise.
