Thanks so much ladies. Great advice
That article was really interesting Motherforkin and made me re-think what is important. When I started exercising during the first lockdown, my only thought was to get moving as I was missing out on my daily walk to work and no-one knew how long we would be stuck at home. The weight started to come off which was a bonus and I started to feel really good about exercising. Then my mindset shifted to not wanting to end up like my mum, who can barely make it up and down stairs at 69, but inevitably my clothes started to get looser and again this made me feel good. This is the longest period I have carried on exercising, usually giving up after about 6 months, so I had assumed that my weight loss and toning would improve the longer I was exercising; maybe I could get those muscles, or those abs. However, this has not been the case and I have been feeling sorry for myself. What the article and your replies have shown me is that I don't have to have perfect abs or biceps to be healthy and to help me achieve strength and fitness as I age, so I will keep on doing what I am doing.
I don't run Sophie. I have tried before and ended up with shin splints. I also don't fancy starting to run outside now the autumn is here
but we are still considering a treadmill. I think what you have said makes perfect sense and I wonder if I could utilise this technique when doing my WWL. She does boosted walks which are jogging rather than walking, so I suppose technically I could go faster for a time and then slow back down again. I will do this and see how I go
My eating has slipped back into old habits too, now things are back to being so busy. So I am cutting out all chocolate for October. I do know that if I cut my food back too much, this will be unrealistic for me and I will just stuff my face!
Anyway that's enough rambling from me. I did a Girvan 500 rep shoulder challenge today.
By the way, I am the same with workouts at the weekend Sophie and Oubliette. It's a shame as that's when I used to get the hour long workouts in.
