I noticed the other was getting full. Thank you for the new thread!

TryingToBeBold · 26/05/2020 18:20

Thank you @GuyFawkesDay!

I'm so glad I found this. When searching for the thread I found so many other 5k threads just not active so its great to have this to come back to and update.

RooKangaroo · 26/05/2020 18:24

I lurked throughout the whole of the first thread and have decided to finally stick my head up and get involved.

Due to do W6 R2 tomorrow, but wondering about an extra rest day. Been loving it so far, but had a very slight niggle on my left foot (on the bottom, near the arch) after yesterday's run. All gone now, and would ideally like to go ahead, but wondering.... will make a decision tomorrow, I think.

Good luck everyone else!

YesThisIsMe · 26/05/2020 19:15

Signing in belatedly. DH and I (and Michael Johnson) have just finished W5R1 which went very well especially given the temperature. Shuddering in horror at the thought of W5R3 but you all say it’s possible, and Michael promises we can do it, so we have faith.

DS (15) has been joining us sporadically but is now definitely unable to keep up so I think we may need to interspace proper runs with repeats of earlier weeks which he can join us on.

I also have a feeling that once we get to the longer runs DH and I will have to run separately because he physically won’t be able to run as slowly as I’ll need to - I started with an aerobic advantage as an occasional jogger and workout DVD participant while he just walks a lot, but now we’re 5 weeks in the length of his legs is giving him the edge.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 26/05/2020 19:33

Aloha all. I’ve not run today but I’m marking my place. Thanks for the new thread @GuyFawkesDay

feelingfragile · 26/05/2020 19:44

Over the years I've got to various stages with couch to 5k and most recently got to week 4 before getting ill with suspected coronavirus. It's knackered my lungs so it's been a 9 week journey from walking incredibly slowly to week 3 of couch to 5k. Same journey has gone from taking me 90 minutes, to 25 minutes. Determined to use this time when I'm working from home to go up a few weeks.

titsbumfannythelot · 26/05/2020 19:50

👋🏻 all, nice to see a new thread and so many of you doing so well. I'm still resting my ankle but hope I can get back out soon.

rarathenoisylioness · 26/05/2020 20:03

@RooKangaroo I'm doing 6/2 tomorrow too!!

imamearcat · 26/05/2020 20:11

I'm so not envious of you all in week 5/6+ and managing it!! Week 3, day 2 done for me. My husband was taking the piss the other night because 'oh you only run for 3 minutes that's not much!', so I ran one of the walks and did 6 minutes running. It was ok, I'm feeling a bit more confident now.💪

choc27 · 26/05/2020 20:12

Thanks for the new thread! I didn't run today and think I will have another rest day tomorrow even though I'm dying to get back out there and try another 5k. 2 rest days last time made a difference though so I will try and hold off!

TryingToBeBold · 26/05/2020 20:14

@imamearcat

Tell him to sod off! I will admit when I looked at the first run and was like 60 seconds. Is that it. It's easy.
I was proven wrong.
Tell him to give it a go Grin

TwistyHair · 26/05/2020 20:15

I’ve just finished week 8. Got week 9 tomorrow. Do any of you run before breakfast? Keen, I know. But I’m worried I’d have less energy because of not having eaten for over 12 hours. It’s hot hot hot tomorrow and late afternoon is so hot.

imamearcat · 26/05/2020 20:15

Sorry meant to say 'I'm so envious' not 'so not envious'!!!!

PenfoldsFive · 26/05/2020 20:18

@TwistyHair, I’m on w8 and was wondering exactly the same about breakfast. I’m hoping I will use my (plentiful) fat cells up if I haven’t eaten.

feelingfragile · 26/05/2020 20:19

@TwistyHair

I always run first thing, it wouldn't happen otherwise

TryingToBeBold · 26/05/2020 20:21

@TwistyHair

Great question!
I have some weetabix when I get up and then wait 2 hours (I read 2 hours for light, 4-5 for heavy meals) and then run.
But if I could run.. earlier. That would be fantastic.

TryingToBeBold · 26/05/2020 20:22

What's everyone's morning run routines? Do you even have a coffee before?

PenfoldsFive · 26/05/2020 20:23

So is it actually bad to run on an empty stomach? I usually just have a small glass of water before running first thing.

imamearcat · 26/05/2020 20:24

I'm absolutely not a morning person, I definitely couldn't do it without coffee! I've been once after coffee before breakfast. Was ok actually.

imamearcat · 26/05/2020 20:25

@PenfoldsFive it's good for weight loss, not sure about stamina.

TwistyHair · 26/05/2020 20:25

My partner is working 9-5 tomorrow so I’d need to go around 7. Not sure if it’s bad to run on an empty stomach, more that I worry that I wouldn’t have enough energy and then I’d not be able to complete it and get all disheartened. I do sometimes wake up hungry. Maybe just a banana and go

TryingToBeBold · 26/05/2020 20:29

I can easily not eat until 10am and just get by on a coffee and squash.
Whether that's enough to get me through

GuyFawkesDay · 26/05/2020 21:17

I always go first thing. Definitely coolest time and less chance of being seen 🤣🤣🤣

I get my kit ready, set my alarm and am out the door at 7am.

If I wait til the afternoon I get issues with needing a wee and besides that, it's too blooming hot to run then!!!

W7 starts tomorrow for me. Just long runs now. Think I'm going to go a different route. The hill at 1/2 - 1mile stretch on my normal one is putting me off as it's just at the wrong point in the run before I've got into my rhythm and I struggle.

Need a change I think!!

OP posts:
TryingToBeBold · 26/05/2020 21:26

@GuyFawkesDay

Definitely change the route.. I had a section which I disliked. No real reason other than disliking it.
I took it out and I'm much happier.

Someone said to me.. If you start out with negative thoughts.. (even about a section) you'll never enjoy it.

RooKangaroo · 26/05/2020 21:27

Good luck tomorrow @rarathenoisylioness!

I run first thing on an empty stomach. I find it so much easier, and it actually suppresses my appetite a bit. I've coincidentally been doing 16:8 eating, and I drink lots of water after my runs but don't eat until lunchtime at noon.

Works for me, but appreciate others may be different.
