Took all your advise about morning running and was out at 7am this morning!! Finished week 3.💪 I was a little bit slow/tired this morning but I think it's because I ran last night as well.

Feeling positive for week 4.Smile

TryingToBeBold · 27/05/2020 10:13

@Sunshineandflipflops how much was the 45 in the end if you dont mind me asking?
I managed to get the Vivoactive for £102 in the end. Could have got another one cheaper but I'd already lost out on a few auctions

TryingToBeBold · 27/05/2020 10:14

@imamearcat 7am is fantastic!
Any food or anything before?

Sunshineandflipflops · 27/05/2020 10:21

@TryingToBeBold It was £140, from Amazon. That's a really good price for yours.

imamearcat · 27/05/2020 10:34

@TryingToBeBold no I just had a few sips of water. My kids were up early this morning and yesterday I couldn't really find the time to run and ended up having to go quite soon after dinner. So thought I would get my lazy ass out of bed and get on the move! Good to get it out of the way and lovely and cool / no people about.

TryingToBeBold · 27/05/2020 10:42

@NoTeaForMe

My favourite thing about strava is how it really breaks down the run into segments and you can see where you've improved. But you find what works for you.

@Sunshineandflipflops I took a gamble and used ebay with good selling history etc. I hope yours does what you need it to. Its surprisingly comfy to wear all the time.

@imamearcat ooh okay. I might skip the eat breakfast and wait 2 hours and give it a go

GuyFawkesDay · 27/05/2020 11:33

Wasn't feeling it this morning.

Dragged my arse out of bed and went straight out and had a LOVELY W7 R1. Changed my route so first 1/2 mile is flat/downhill and made it round my old circular route round my village. I used to walk/run it in the early weeks and I just ran one and a bit loops

And I whacked on a run (not a jog) in the last minute. Couldn't do that in my W6R3 25 minutes on Monday. I covered more distance and my run sections were 7min:40/km so I'm a bit quicker too. Maybe week 6, hellish as it was, did improve me?!!

Even better, I finished near the village shop so my cool down walk in loved buying a nice cold drink en route 🤣

I think that might be my reward at the end from now on. It was bliss on a warm morning!!

I am actually getting out of bed early to go for a morning run.

I’m trying to fit in as many varied runs as possible. Sometimes I’m eating before a run, others I’m fasting through. I’m aiming to put in as many ‘distractions’ as possible so that I’ve future proofed my running. Then when things return to normal I’ll not have any excuses such as; can’t run on an empty stomach, run without water etc. I’ll know I can do early/late/caffeine free.

I’m still using the NRC app and the Headspace runs that come with it. I’ve realised that although I got through the early hard weeks I wasn’t making it easy for myself with my music choices. I used to listen to really upbeat workout tracks and they are great for final motivation but listening to something too fast doesn’t always allow you to build up the miles. I feel very zen about running now. Like one getting some wisdom. 😀

This morning I ran 3.5km in 25 minutes. It was hilly and hot. Yesterday I ran 4.6km in 30 minutes. It was sweltering and on tough terrain. I’m still not yet consistently at 5km in 30mins but my personal bests are increasing and I know my fitness has excelled. I’d like to do the 10km by the end of May but I’m realistic about that. For now I’m going to be just like Forrest Gump and keep on running.

BookShop · 27/05/2020 11:41

@GuyFawkesDay well done on getting out early. It’s hard to do but the whole day feels better when you’ve got the run under your belt.

I finished at a shop yesterday and also got a large icey drink. My temptation comes when I see all the snacks available to me at the end....I want to reward myself but I also want to see the benefits of the running on my body. I’ve definitely changed shape and am more toned so it’s very easy to ‘treat’ with a chocolate bar or bag of peanuts. 🙈

choc27 · 27/05/2020 11:42

I'd love to go early morning but I'm worried I'd faint! I'm not great without food. Also although it would work well now, when I'm actually back at work there would be no hope of me going in the morning.

BookShop · 27/05/2020 11:50

@choc27 I think when it all goes back to normal I won’t be running in the morning either but knowing that I could is somehow comforting. I’ve got a weird checklist of experiences when running that I feel I need to tick off to know I’m a real runner. I’m not sure where they are coming from but knowing I can get through them really helps me. It’s also satisfying when on a run to remind myself that I’ve got through it other times so can now.

HGC2 · 27/05/2020 11:52

I'm shielding so running at home on a treadmill. Never been a runner due to asthma but I'm doing w8r2 tomorrow, finding it tough but not missed a run yet. I am keeping the same structure, up, coffee, water, puff of inhaler and go! Great way to start the day - I think!

Managed to up my "speed" from 8km per hour to 8.5, safe to say I'll never be a speed runner!

Does anyone know of any running trackers for use on a treadmill? I had looked at strava but it had me running no distance at all as I hadn't moved spots!

chunkyrun · 27/05/2020 11:53

I was wondering where the other thread went. On week 6 looking forward to a 25min to see what I can do. Can't believe a few weeks ago I was running at 1 minute intervals

imamearcat · 27/05/2020 13:02

My second pair of Asics came this morning.. I ordered a 5.5 originally and now got a 6 but they are still a bit on the small side. I've never been over a size 6 in my life!

I've just been for a walk in them. They are ok but I think they are just a bit tight around my little toe. Maybe a bit narrow? Are they likely to give at all and are they meant to be snug?

MindatWork · 27/05/2020 13:18

Can I join if I’m only just starting? Blush Did c25k 9 years ago in preparation for my wedding but haven’t really run since. Lockdown and 18month old DD are not helping my figure so am determined to get moving again. Planning w1 r1 tomorrow!

Have dug out all my old playlists - I used to listen to online playlists that were edited to switch up the music every time you change pace, with a different music style for each week (rap, rock, pop etc).

Also need to dig out my old gym kit but don’t know if it will fit...

peasando · 27/05/2020 13:41

Can I join too? I just started week one this morning.

I'm 5ft 5 and 13 stone so ideally want to lose about three stone, but more than that I just want to get fit again. I've recently turned 40 and don't think I could honestly say that I've been physically fit since I was about 17.

At my heaviest after having my son I was about 16 stone - I lost three stone early last year with a combo of a VLCD and regular swimming. That worked well for me but then I got pregnant with DD and it fell by the wayside! She's now 6 months old and it's time for me to sort myself out. I'd love to do a VLCD or fasting again but I'm breastfeeding so that's not an option; and obviously swimming's currently out!

Anyway, TL;DR - I did week one run one this morning, my thighs are killing me, but I made it!

Just need to make sure I stick with it now.

GuyFawkesDay · 27/05/2020 13:59

Welcome!

I'm 5'4" and 12 stone and trying to shift it too.

I'm just starting to notice my thighs have muscles!!

In the 'normal world' I am up at 6.30 am for work so if I want to continue running in the mornings when back at work I will need to get up at 5.45/6 am. I am working from home until September at the earliest though due to the kids being off until then so just doing what works for me right now.

Sunshineandflipflops · 27/05/2020 14:03

Also, I have been running for the best part of 10 years...I am a member of a local running club and have run 10ks/half marathons and I'm afraid to say that running alone has never made me lose weight. It's all about diet for me BUT when I'm in the zone with my running, I automatically want to eat more healthily.

peasando · 27/05/2020 14:14

Yeah, I've heard a few people say that @Sunshineandflipflops - but the way I see it, running has got to be better for weight loss than sitting on the sofa! I'm watching what I eat as well, although I do find it tricky to find a sensible middle ground between eating way too much and fasting. Portion size is more of an issue for me than the actual content of what I'm eating.

I'm actually pretty pleased to still be 13 stone (my pre-DD weight) and not to have put more on as I did with DS, even though that does still make me technically obese!

Sunshineandflipflops · 27/05/2020 14:39

@imamearcat I always size up half a size in running trainers as I was advised to do so some time ago. I think it's to do with your feet expanding as they get warm and having enough space with the natural movement of running.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 27/05/2020 14:46

I go up a full size, @sunshineandflipflops

imamearcat · 27/05/2020 14:50

Bugger. Well I can't send them back now so will just have to hope they are ok!

TwistyHair · 27/05/2020 15:15

Well I did 9/1 this morning. At 7am. Banana and go. Seemed to work well. I came back starving and was slightly hungry before I ate banana. So I don’t think empty stomach would work for me. But it was nice to be out early and it was already hot at that time.

Isisizzie · 27/05/2020 15:55

I had a pair of asics and they were a bit tight on my little toe. So I got a pair of inovates which have a bigger toe box so are much more comfortable.

I’m on w5r1 today just need it to cool down a bit first.
