@Isisizzie, how are you finding the Innovate shoes? Do they have much bounce in them? I'm heavy so I need cushioned trainers.

Vagndidit · 28/05/2020 10:58

Hiyah ladies! May I join? I restarted Cto5k during the Easter holidays and after a few repeat weeks, I'm now on the dreaded W5 R3. It's a hot one today and wasn't able to get out early enough this morning to run, so hoping for a cool down sometime after dinner to get out there. 🤞

I successfully completed the programme last summer, despite being many stones above my desired weight, but then turned into a complete slob in the winter months, lost all my progress, slipped into a depression, gained weight back, etc. So had to start from scratch again this year. It's a hard slog. Good luck to you all!🏃‍♀️

@PenfoldsFive the ones I have are like a hybrid so made for both road and off road as I run to the canal then along it. These ones aren’t as padded as the road asic ones I had but perfect for what I want. They do just road running trainers which are more padded and felt comfy in the shop but not what I needed. Just check when ordering what the recommended use is as they do lots of different ones.

TwistyHair · 28/05/2020 11:04

Does anyone get sore under their armpits? I’ve been having to put sudocrem on afterwards. Think it’s heat/sweat/stubble rash

PenfoldsFive · 28/05/2020 11:05

Thanks! I have three pairs arriving the in the post hopefully today, but will check out the Inov8 (yuck!) site if none of them are a goer.

GuyFawkesDay · 28/05/2020 11:05

I've been looking at shorts too.

Did try running in my old hockey shorts but they rub. If I wear my old gym shorts I have chub rub because they're too short. I may try those 2 layer running shorts.

Damn my fat parsnip thighs.

Hello to all the new people waves !!!

I took the plunge and purchased some Gap running shorts. They are fab. Very lightweight and with an inner liner. Much shorter than I expected but super comfy and at least I’ll get an all over tan 😆

imamearcat · 28/05/2020 12:39

I just got some under armour ones delivered they seemed really comfy, cool and not too short when I tried them on. Hope they are comfy for actually running!

I'm loving buying all the gear lol. Must keep it up!

Sunshineandflipflops · 28/05/2020 13:31

I just looked at the gap ones and they are sold out. Just looking at the Karrimor ones from Sports direct and they seem ok for £16.99...?

I think i'll size up though as I'd rather them be a little loose.

Murmurur · 28/05/2020 14:14

I just don't do leggings or shorts. I'm far too overweight. Hoping it doesn't get much hotter!

Sunshineandflipflops · 28/05/2020 14:20

What do you wear @Murmurur?

GuyFawkesDay · 28/05/2020 14:43

Oh god I think I've broken my little toe.

Argh!!!

imamearcat · 28/05/2020 14:49

How @GuyFawkesDay ??

GuyFawkesDay · 28/05/2020 14:55

Really exciting story.....I caught it on the corner of some furniture as I was tidying up.

It's my little toe. I've strapped it up and had painkillers.

Hoping it's just bruised 🙈

PetraDelphiki · 28/05/2020 15:15

Sturdy by design long shorts (just above knee) otherwise i would be rubbing my thighs to pieces!

PenfoldsFive · 28/05/2020 15:34

I wear running tights with a baggy t shirt (normally a running t shirt from the men's department). I'm very much on the hefty side, but given that I'm also middle-aged, nobody looks at me anyway. Finally, the invisibility of the late 40s woman is a useful thing! Grin

PenfoldsFive · 28/05/2020 15:35

Posted before I asked about your toe, @GuyFawkesDay. Do you think (whispered tones of horror) it will stop you running?

Sunshineandflipflops · 28/05/2020 15:43

I hope your toe is ok @GuyFawkesDay!

I am 41 and it has taken me a while but I now realise that no-one is really looking at me when I run and if they are it's usually because they are thinking "I wish I could do that".

The only reason I look at other runners is to see if I know them or because I am envious that they are running and I'm not!

GuyFawkesDay · 28/05/2020 16:04

I'm hoping I've just smacked the nail bed. That's where I caught it.

OP posts:
Castoreum · 28/05/2020 18:04

Ouch, that hurts so much. Hope your toe is better soon.

I have UnderArmour three-quarter leggings and find them v comfy and not too hot. Plus they cover up quite a lot of leg so I don't feel self-conscious in them.

Vagndidit · 28/05/2020 22:13

Ooooh, I feel for you GuyFawkes. :( I've done similar to my toe before. It wasn't broken but the pain was unreal. Don't be surprised if the nail doesn't just fall completely off from the shock of the trauma. Hope you feel better soon.

GuyFawkesDay · 28/05/2020 22:26

It's gone an interesting colour so I think it'll probably come off but apparently that makes me a runner it's a rite of passage (according bro my ridiculously good runner friend).

Never mind I've done it by being a clutz 😁 I'll take that 🤣🤣🤣

imamearcat · 28/05/2020 23:39

Bloody hate stubbing my toe, that sounds bad!!

I feel a bit of a fraud because I feel like skipping some runs. Is that terrible??

NoTeaForMe · 28/05/2020 23:56

Oh dear GuyFawkes hopefully that gets better quickly.

I did my W6 R2 today. Last of the intervals. I’m looking forward to the long runs and nervous about them in equal measures. I’m worried that when I start tracking just the runs in week 7 I’ll find out just how incredibly slow I am! 😬

mamakoukla · 29/05/2020 03:22

Peasando - I have started this week and can confirm soreness after run 1.Run 2 helped ease it out :) you’ve got this
