Sounds nasty PrincessWatermelon - hope the dressing fixes it soon and you can get out there again.

I was rather dreading this evening's run in the heat, but the temperature has cooled right down and it was actually quite pleasant weather.

I took my first ever pair of proper running shoes out for the first time and at first they were great, but in the third run (W2R3) my right calf started to feel very tense and a bit sore, so I had to stop to stretch it out. Took it gently and made it through the rest of the run. Not sure if it's the new shoes or my technique, probably a combination of the two, but it was a bit of a setback.

I've done a bit of googling and calf pain does seem common when shifting away from heelstriking as I have, particularly if you overdo it which I suspect I may have been doing this evening. Definitely better than the shin pain I was getting before though! Anyone else had this?

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 26/06/2020 20:52

Ouch @PrincessWatermelon! Sounds like a nasty one if you can't dig it out with a needle.

Impressed with all those going for 10k or reaching it. I'm still getting comfortable with dong 30 minutes regularly and if I get a 5k in every now and then when it feels ok so be it. Did 27 minutes tonight but it was so close i was dripping with sweat, literally dripping when I got in, but I now
Go far less red and recover my breath really quickly now so must be doing something right.

TryingToBeBold · 26/06/2020 21:13

@whenwillthemadnessend

I did feel my podge start to get a bit more toned!

Shin is off again! For gods sake!
Hopefully a weekend run though..

The heat is what made me give up a few years ago. Today was pretty bad at 8:30 in the morning.

Any recommendations on where to get new running shoes? I have trail ones at the moment as I run across a common, often off the tracks. They are harder but more stable, but I think I'd rather have more cushioning.

Sexnotgender · 27/06/2020 08:17

W4R3 done, and I didn’t dodge the hill!! Was ok. Glad to get it out the way early 😊

Sexnotgender · 27/06/2020 08:20

@Mysterian I have nike running shoes and finding them very supportive. I just googled best women’s running shoes and there was an article telling which shoes were good for what type of running you’re doing.

Sexnotgender · 27/06/2020 08:29

www.runnersworld.com/uk/gear/shoes/a776160/best-womens-running-shoes/

This is the article, I wear the Nike Pegasus 36 but it doesn’t seem to be available anymore. My husband wears Hoka running shoes as they’re very cushioned for his creaky old knees!

Mysterian · 27/06/2020 09:06

I've been googling. I'm not sure about buying shoes online. I'd prefer to find a shop to try them on.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 27/06/2020 11:01

Morning all.

6.5km today, it’s nice to have it a bit cooler.

Shoes wise, I like Brooks Ravenna. They suit my foot strike and they have a nice roomy toebox. I always size up by one size. They’re also quite cushioned, as like @Sexnotgender’s DH I have a buggered knee.

How’s the foot today, @PrincessWatermelon?

NCTDN · 27/06/2020 13:20

Did week 6 run 3 today. Never believed I could do 25 mins but I did Grin

ThickFast · 27/06/2020 14:19

@Mysterian I just got some brooks Cascadia. Trail but cushioned sounds good for roads too.

PrincessWatermelon · 27/06/2020 14:31

Thanks for asking @JonHammIsMyJamm It's feeling fine as I walk around in my trainers. So much so I'm tempted to go for a run. But suspect it's not the wisest move. I plan on taking a peek under the dressing tomorrow morning, fully hoping to see a thick black hawthorn and then I know I'll be good to go!

Murmurur · 27/06/2020 16:47

@NCTDN well done. I repeated W6R1 today after a few days off. Was do proud of my 20 mins and now everything from W6R3 looks intimidating.

@Mysterian would you brave a running shop? Our local one is open again now. Though I'm going great guns with the cheap running trainers I bought at sportshoes.com (Asics Jolt 2) so I'm in no hurry to buy anything more expensive!

GuyFawkesDay · 27/06/2020 18:24

2nd 5k just done, was 45 seconds faster too so that's all good!! Enjoyed it far more today

Going to try the W1R1 with sprinting thing to see if I can change things up a bit.

I’m gonna give Jeffing a go. Due to my ongoing shin splints. Hoping it might help.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 27/06/2020 20:05

Glad it’s feeling better @PrincessWatermelon but yes, give it a few more days to heal before you go applying the extreme pressure of running.

sleepwhenidie · 27/06/2020 22:24

So pleased today, did 7km in just over 40 mins. I think 4 days off plus a coffee an hour or so before helped Smile! The 20 mins (w5) seemed challenging on May 10, don’t be intimidated if you are feeling like it’s too much, you can do it!

whenwillthemadnessend · 27/06/2020 22:38

Second week two run. Not too bad dispute rain. Dd gave up running and walked half way round. Not a morning runner it seems. Grin

Mysterian · 28/06/2020 09:08

Week 8 finished. It's 30 minute runs from now on.

Funny thing, I thought today was an incredibly slow run. Muscles were a bit tight so I tried to run within myself, but it was actually my fastest run yet. I think it goes to show what I've heard many people say about C25K: 'run the distance/time and the speed will come'.

Alamindah · 28/06/2020 09:40

Managed to get out this morning after another frustrating week of migraines and torrential rain stopping me. I thought I wasn't doing well and had to walk for a few seconds in the middle but actually I did alright so trying to feel more encouraged!

Cmini · 28/06/2020 10:37

Week 7 run 1 today. Did the 25 mins on Thursday but didn't find it easy. Went out late as it was so hot and still felt a bit full from dinner. Ran on an empty stomach this morning and felt good-I even pushed on to 30 mins. I'm so slow though. Had some lovely company today.

Sexnotgender · 28/06/2020 10:51

Lovely picture @Cmini

I had company on my run yesterday too

Sad not to be running today (I'm amazed how much I miss it given I only started a fortnight ago!) but my calf is getting better so I hope I'll be able to get out tomorrow if I take it easily.

rarathenoisylioness · 28/06/2020 11:47

5k in 32mins today - I am very please with myself!

JonHammIsMyJamm · 28/06/2020 11:52

Fantastic @rarathenoisylioness!
