Just done week 7 run 2.
I accidentally skipped run 1 but it’s the same distance repeated 4 times so skipping one shouldn’t matter.
Felt good. Slow but good!

Hello all, I’ve just started week 9 with my dd (12). Shes always has a high level of energy, arm/leg swinging, spinning on the spot and generally feeling restless and irritable so sport has played a big part in her life until now. As much as I always intend to work on my own fitness I spent all my free time dropping her off and picking her up from the gym/pool/dance etc and have neglected myself. Lockdown has given me the challenge of keeping her in good shape and giving myself a kick up the arse. I’m a lot slower than she would be if she ran alone but she is not fiercely competitive so happy to plod alongside me. I have caught her sometimes doing all the arm motions of jogging and just shuffling her feet which has made me run faster than I would usually like and I stick rigidly to the routine. It has been a very interesting experience to say the least but finally I am feeling like I’m not about to die. I have to admit I spend quite a bit of time running wondering when she can go back to her clubs so the pressure is off but I’m also curious to know whether it ever becomes actually enjoyable. I feel amazing afterwards but throughout the run I am looking at my clock every 30 seconds. Does it ever become fun or am I supposed to be running and thinking of other things at the same time? Is that the fun bit? I’m hoping I will have one of those £1,000,000 epiphany ideas for an invention or award winning novel but so far all I think about it getting back home.

I've just done wk 2 run 3. I've had pain in my pelvis and hips so haven't been able to go out for about a week. My phone isn't working without WiFi so I couldn't use the app. I thought I would put timers on my phone instead. I was doing the first 90 second run and thought this is taking a long time for 90 seconds, checked my phone and I'd put it on for 90 minutes not 90 seconds.

Stopthehop · 29/05/2020 09:37

I meant to say I always run in the morning before eating or coffee. I take water with me. This morning I was letting Dp have a bit of a lie in before i left him with Dd so I had a coffee and then needed a wee all the way round.

BookShop · 29/05/2020 10:10

I did it! So proud of myself. It was hard and my pace was slow but I completed my 10km challenge in May. I feel as though I’ve really graduated now but I’m still afraid to join the proper runners thread.

Sorry to hear about your toe @GuyFawkesDay

carrottopper · 29/05/2020 10:23

I've just done my first one! Loved it

BookShop · 29/05/2020 11:02

Well done @carrottopper 😀 it’s addictive.

carrottopper · 29/05/2020 11:23

I can see that it is addictive. I loved it and carried on to 5k. Did 5k walking and running in 45 minutes. I know it's not the fastest but I'm chuffed!

rarathenoisylioness · 29/05/2020 11:55

@BookShop well done!

Murmurur · 29/05/2020 12:40

Fudgefeet no idea. We've given up trying to stay together, we just do the warm up walk together then DD goes on ahead.

W4R1 done. What just happened? I've been on a rollercoaster of "this'll be fine" and "this is completely impossible".

Murmurur · 29/05/2020 12:41

bookshop well done, that's amazing.

imamearcat · 29/05/2020 13:29

Well I decided to skip ahead and do R3W5 with a groggy head (had some beers last night) in the heat of the day. I do like to make life difficult for myself!!!!!

It went ok but god it's a bit of a slog!! First 5 mins amazing, 2nd 5 mins ok but the last 10 was hard. Until about the last 20 seconds then I had a new lease of life!!

Feeling pleased with myself. Kept a steady pace of around 6.45 min per Km. I think I'll see how I go with week 6 as it drops back to intervals but not fancying a 25 mins!!

ChanklyBore · 29/05/2020 13:44

Hope the toe isn’t too bad GuyFawkes. I’ve lost toenails before to long distance walking/hiking so disagree it’s a running-specific milestone. But toes are bloody painful. Sympathy.

Awesome 10km bookshop, respect.

Nice to see lots of new people. I’m rubbish with advice on what gear to get as I am a crap shopper and can’t commit to buying anything, it seems. So I am running in old treadless trainers, black full length primark leggings and any old t-shirt, carrying my phone in my hand the whole way. I really need to sort that out but no shops are open. I don’t know what shoe size I am or what leggings size I’d need or what gear to get and I really can’t afford to make expensive mistakes at the moment.

I went out on week 8, run 2 yesterday. Was OK. Had a little walk up an especially hilly part but no more than 50m or so, made it to around 4.7km in 32 mins.

Next goal is full 5km

GuyFawkesDay · 29/05/2020 14:38

Well I think the toenail is the issue as it feels loads better today. I'm on the painkillers but no pain in my trainers so I think I will get up early tomorrow and go out.

Lurker finally posting Smile I did Week 5 Run 2 this morning. Can't believe I ran for 8 mins, twice! I found the first one quite easy but the second harder - I was running into the sun and a strong wind didn't help Blush I'm feeling a bit worried about Run 3, especially with the heat... I think it might be ok as it's perhaps stopping that makes starting again harder, if that makes sense!

PenfoldsFive · 29/05/2020 15:53

Are people aiming to cover 5k in the bit between the warm up and warm down walks? Or 5k in total? I think I'd need to thumb a lift to get 5k done just in the middle running bit.

FrequentFlyer96 · 29/05/2020 16:14

I have been lurking for a while - I’m doing the couch to 5k on a treadmill (I live in a country where it’s too hot to run outside at the moment)

@Murmurur me too - week 4 run 1 and found it a challenge! Not so much being out of breath but just my leg muscles were really sore. I kept thinking about giving up but just about got through it. Dreading doing it again but won’t give up as I’ve come this far. It felt like a big jump from week 3 to 4.

Seeing others’ progress on this thread gives me hope.

I was kind of hoping for some weight loss as a side effect of all the running but hasn’t happened yet... I live in hope!

Sunshineandflipflops · 29/05/2020 17:26

@PenfoldsFive I only count the bit between, so my 25 min run was about 2.3miles this morning, with 2 mins warm up/cool down each side (I don't do the full 5 mins). The extra 5 minutes running by the end should just about take me t 3 miles/5k but if not, I'll keep going until I get to 5k!

PenfoldsFive · 29/05/2020 18:20

Thanks Sunshine, I think I need to work on getting a bit quicker!

TwistyHair · 29/05/2020 19:40

I did the 30 min run today and covered 4.34km for just the running bit. So I’ll have to work on getting faster. But it that will come, I’m sure. It’s just remarkable that I can run for 30 mins solid when 9 weeks ago I couldn’t at all. And

Cherrypi · 29/05/2020 20:16

I just ran for twenty minutes! I can't believe it. Thank you for the encouragement @TryingToBeBold. I've just finished week 5. This is the longest I have ever run in my life.

TryingToBeBold · 29/05/2020 20:53

@PenfoldsFive how far in are you? I counted the warm up and cool down until.. I was running only (week 7 R3 onwards).

@Cherrypi well done you!! Enjoy that amazing feeling and pride that you feel right now!

TryingToBeBold · 29/05/2020 20:55

@Sunshineandflipflops have you managed to use your watch?

Sunshineandflipflops · 29/05/2020 21:17

@TryingToBeBold yes, I have used it for walking and running and it’s great!

TryingToBeBold · 29/05/2020 21:35

@Sunshine that's great news!

Just a question for everyone..

I'm trying to run in the morning. I know motivationally it's harder but it really sets me up for the day
But I'm also in the mood to run now. Yes at 9:30pm

Those who run any time of day.. do you find your performance is better running a favourite time of the day or is it pretty consistent regardless of when?
