Miserable grey damp gloomy low cloud today but I went for a 4m lunchtime run, half of that along the beach as lucked out with low tide. Calves were screaming at me though after Monday’s run.

Damp evening intervals tonight but much milder than last nights run. So looking forward to spring already!

Back to frosty again today but not too cold; nice brisk run, picked up the pace a bit, felt good

I went out and ran, not far, but it is relatively mild here today. I didn’t like running in the dark though, think I need a head torch.

Quite a nice temperature this evening. Kept looping round to add variety to my limited routes, much to the dog’s confusion.

Evening run with 2 friends. Slight sore calf muscle, hoping it’ll be ok for a morning run.

Didn’t manage the morning run but dragged myself out after work. The first half mile felt like I was limping a bit but persevered and got to 5K. My DH came out to meet me and we walked back together about a mile. A week left of RED Jan...

Hope the calf eases up paddington I’m also nursing stiff sore calf but mines self inflicted running in trail shoes on the beach.
Got a great ParkRun time today my fastest in last 9mths as conditions were near perfect. Did 5m in total as I park the car away.

Well done Triskirun
Hope the calf is ok Paddington Only 6 days of RED January to go. Definitely feels achievable now.
2 grey runs. Very muddy today

Hi all, hope you're all having a great weekend. An afternoon run for me today, made a change not having to wear a head torch! Sort of enjoyed it but I still have fairly bad issues from the birth of my son (nearly 17 months!) so every run is a bit stressful now, looking for a suitable 'loo' behind a bush. Welcome to @myidentitymycrisis (sorry I'm late to welcome you, I fell off the thread this week) - I always remember really early on in my running journey something an experienced running said to me - "whatever your longest distance is so far, you are physically capable of running twice that distance. So you can absolutely do a 10k, believe in yourself!

Trying to motivate myself to go out for a run. Struggling because would rather do nothing, but it looks like a good go out for a run kind of day.

emummy · 26/01/2020 10:40

You’ll feel better afterwards Strandliv!
Nice steady trot for me this morning, a bit drizzly but nice temperature.

Strandliv · 26/01/2020 10:51

I did it. I got the running gear on and then essentially thought well I might as well now I’m dressed for it. Really felt it in the shins today.

On a side note can anyone recommend a not too expensive head torch that doesn’t flop around too much?

WaitingforToto · 26/01/2020 12:34

I can @Strandliv I have this one and I'm really pleased with it (it's the only one I've ever used so nothing to compare it to but I'm happy with it and it's comfortable and bright) www.decathlon.co.uk/onnight-710-black-and-orange-id_8370255.html

Strandliv · 26/01/2020 14:22

Thanks @WaitingforToto I’ll have a look!

PaddingtonPaddington · 26/01/2020 15:00

Had 2 good weekend runs, Saturday along a lovely river route and earlier today a loop in the wind.

Well done for getting out @Strandliv.

Thanks for the link to the head torch @WaitingforToto. I need a new one and its looks much better than my tired dull current one.

So I have run 7k now twice, my 10k is in 5 weeks but the training plan I looked at on MapMyRun covers 16 weeks

Can anyone give me tips to prepare, my plan at the moment is to gradually run a bit further every week

TriSkiRun99 · 27/01/2020 14:02

Cut my planned 2hr long run short due to calf pain niggling which I don’t want getting worse with a Half in 2weeks so ended up having a reverse Tri day as the bike loosened up the leg. I ended up doing a 5km run, 12km on the bike trainer, then a 1km swim instead. so felt good to turn a crap start into a productive morning as it’s the only day of the week I get a few clear hours to myself so I really like to get some good phys in Smile

TriSkiRun99 · 27/01/2020 14:08

myidentitymycrisis You can get apps that help you make the move from 5-10k. All I did was run 3x a week 2x5ks and on the 3rd run I added 0.5-1k each week, and slowed down abit. I got up to 10k over a few weeks but it still took me a gd few months to feel more comfortable at 10k and be able to run without a walk for a min at a couple of points. I’m mid-40s and overweight so everyone is different at how easy they find it but you can do it especially if you are already doing 7k Smile

PaddingtonPaddington · 27/01/2020 22:02

@TriSkiRun99 sounds like your unplanned plan worked out well! Never managed a triathlon, just not very good at the cycling.

@myidentitymycrisis if you can run 7k you will be fine for 10k. If you have 5 weeks you could always do the last 5 weeks of the 16 week plan.

Hills Session tonight dodging puddles unsuccessfully.

@PaddingtonPaddington
@TriSkiRun99
Thank you that is a good idea about doing the last 5 weeks of a plan, Im only managing 2 runs a week but I will just do as much as I can and try and add a little as I go.
My average pace 6.42
Can you explain what the numbers are you put at the end of your posts ?

emummy · 28/01/2020 05:52

That is the total number of miles we have all run together. So if I did a 3 mile run I would add that 3 to the previous poster’s total.

emummy · 28/01/2020 07:11

It snowed! Down in Stirling for a week at uni. Out for run with fellow student at 6:15, lovely run around snowy streets and through an unexpectedly hilly park! Gorgeous views of the castle.

TriSkiRun99 · 28/01/2020 09:20

Oooh jealous of the snow emummy, but it’s lovely cold bright blue day here in SW... Shame I’m working will possibly get a lunchtime walk in but won’t run as calf v.tight. even after 15mins of yoga stretches this morning.
