Yeah I'm hoping it's just a blip TriSki and Paddington - I've been doing the same loop for ages now, It's a rural and lovely 5.5 miler which I used to have no problem with but now I seem to struggle, only a few weeks ago I was doing it twice over without an issue but now it feels like I'm climbing Everest. But I'm glad that I'm getting out, for some fresh air at least, and even if it's slow going I'm still running faster than if I was on the couch! Thanks guys, I really appreciate the support 😘 xx

My body seems to run with the seasons toto, in the winter I’m all long slow runs and peak my ParkRun PBs in each of the last couple of years have been in April/May, when I love spring weather yet I hate running in the summer too hot. I think you just have to be kind to yourself you can also just be nursing a low grade virus or my hormones also play havoc with my energy levels. Enjoy the fresh air regardless, listen to a podcast or the birds tweeting we are over half way through grey January that’s got to be something to smile about Smile I’m off to a bitterly cold ParkRun this morning 🥶

TriSkiRun99 · 18/01/2020 10:34

Was a super frosty -4c this morning which is rare where I live near the sea but there was even white sand and icy puddles on the seafront this morning for ParkRun. Luckily the sea mist lifted to a beautiful morning, and I really enjoyed my 5m, ParkRun sandwich this morning.

Hill reps for me this morning, clear sky with the moon & then sun thinking about coming up.

Decided to do a run while DD was at her piano lesson and had a beautiful sunny morning run finishing with a path running along a river. Good to have some different scenery.

Did my first park run today. Other than almost tripping over a dog it went well. I enjoyed it. Hundreds of people there, I’ve never seen anything like it.

Glad you enjoyed it Strandliv! I was timekeeping this morning, which was lovely until I lost the feeling in my fingers with the cold!

Strandliv · 18/01/2020 17:49

@emummy according to the Facebook group there were 740 people there. I found it very surreal to run with so many people. It was good fun, cold though, very cold.

IRun4Me · 18/01/2020 18:08

Rubbish run yesterday didn’t really enjoy it but it was short and served a purpose. Lovely longish run today with a friend. It was perfect running conditions- blue sky, sunshine, no wind and cool but not too cold. Really enjoyed it

Lovely run this morning, starting at sunrise. Beautiful day but blooming cold! Somewhere about -3 I think. Warmed up but the got colder at the last stretch along the river.

Well done on the parkrun @Strandliv

Another lovely sunny run on a different route. I’ve been trying not to run the same loops this month and have enjoyed finding a different way each time.

I’m a slow jogger and I’ve (perhaps foolishly) just agreed to do a 10k in March with 2 friends

I thought I would post here for tips and support?

The most I have run is 6 and that only recently.

emummy · 20/01/2020 09:18

Welcome myidentitymycrisis! March is ages away, you can easily get up to 10k for then. Just a gradual increase in your long run once a week and you’ll be fine. And it should be fun to do with friends.

TriSkiRun99 · 20/01/2020 14:33

I’d echo emummys comment, identity it may ‘feel’ like a jump from 6k to 10k but just add 1k a week to one of your runs and your be there ok. It’s more mental I find than physical but you may have to run a bit slower to start with. Good luck. I found the NHS C25K+ podcasts helped me make that leap from 5-10k.

Fab cross terrain run this morning with a mix of beach, coastal path, frozen mud, icy skating rink country lane, and road. Beautiful cold weather though first time I felt chilled though as the temperature just didn’t rise I could have done with a sleeveless quick dry vest. Does anyone else run in a layer like that? I had a T-shirt & jacket with a bumbag water-bottle carrier around my lower back which helped keep kidneys warm but I needed more base layering today yet I hate overheating.

emummy · 20/01/2020 18:05

I often wear t shirt with separate sleeves and a gilet. If it’s very cold I add a long sleeved base layer over the t shirt, then if I get warm I can take off the sleeves.

IRun4Me · 20/01/2020 20:04

Welcome myidentity I agree with the others. You can definitely do it. Go for it.
A couple of chilly runs. Forgot my snood so my ears got cold and then they started burning.
Can’t believe I’ve already got to day 20 of RED January.

Thanks yes I think I’ll try a long sleeve layer over the top of short sleeves then I can always take off and tie it round my waist. I also forgot I have cycling “sleeves” somewhere I’ll try fish them out. Think I got chilled as I had extra fleece & wooly hat on at home all afternoon Smile

TriSkiRun99 · 20/01/2020 20:47

Well done on your RED irun. It’s nice to think we’ve on downhill off gloomy JanSmile

PaddingtonPaddington · 20/01/2020 21:05

Brr definitely a chilly run this evening. Hill intervals tonight, slow and chatty. Agree @IRun4Me good to get to day 20 of RED Jan as now feels like we’re on the home straight

Quick pre work run, way milder today

Strandliv · 21/01/2020 07:05

Gosh @emummy it’s so cold (also really foggy here) this morning. You’re awesome for running in it. I stood on my train platform layered up to my eyeballs and couldn’t stop shivering.

TriSkiRun99 · 21/01/2020 10:03

Felt like “-6c” this morn white pavements brrrr with freezing sea fog that’s luckily lifting now to a sunny day. Will rest my legs though after run and massage yesterday, may swim instead later. Happy winter running.

emummy · 21/01/2020 11:18

It was 8 degrees here this morning, a rise of about 13 since yesterday morning!

PaddingtonPaddington · 21/01/2020 20:51

Chilly evening intervals with a friend tonight.

IRun4Me · 22/01/2020 10:23

Was still very chilly yesterday but this morning it was back to being grey damp and milder.
