Last run of training plan completed this morning.

Yes Amaura race is this weekend. Slightly stressed but trying not to think too much about it. The weather is looking like thunder, lightening and heavy rain so that’ll be interesting...

Good luck Paddington ! Will keep fingers crossed for better weather

TriSkiRun99 · 14/08/2020 07:48

Good luck paddington - I don’t envy anyone running in this heat. I tried just a 5k yesterday morning it felt like running in a sauna with hot sticky mist all around me. And that was a flat route by the estuary. I went for a 1.2km swim at lunchtime instead of running further.

Check out irunfar.com for inspiring blogs and tips on ultra cross country running. It’s run by some really lovely people who also run far. Meghan (American) has run all over the world but was back in the UK a couple of years ago to do the bob graham round. www.irunfar.com/about-irunfar/meghan-hicks/meghan-hicks-2017-bob-graham-round-attempt/amp we worked together many years ago so I enjoy following her exploits including winning the Marathon des sables as she’s such a down to earth woman.

Good luck Paddington
A bit cooler this morning but so humid. Looking forward again to being able to breathe when running.

I did it! First ultra completed. Very humid (81% humidity) and some epic hills in there. I was going ok till about mile 18 and then struggled somewhat with everything feeling like it was seizing up but a recovery drink and some food and electrolytes later and I was back on track. As it was self navigating took a couple of wrong turns so ended up doing 32 miles. Met some great people along the way and everyone was so friendly and encouraging. Really pleased to finish. Ache all over this morning so will be taking some time to recover properly.

Congratulations Paddington! Very well done indeed, especially in that weather. I think you have earned a rest now.

emummy · 16/08/2020 11:58

Wee easy run for me, along the river, past the castle & back through country lanes. Easier week, 4 weeks till the half if it happens.

Well done paddington fantastic achievement especially in the heat & humidity we have had lately. Hope the legs don’t cease up too much.

IRun4Me · 18/08/2020 08:11

Well done Paddington That is a very impressive achievement. Hope you are very proud of yourself and enjoying a well deserved rest.

Sleeping really badly this week. Skipped Tuesday’s run, made it out this morning for a slow 3 miles. Just needed the fresh air so didn’t worry about pace.

Well done @PaddingtonPaddington 🥳 🎉

TriSkiRun99 · 21/08/2020 21:30

Had to hang around for 2hrs playing mum taxi last night in a different town so was brave and using the OS app tried a completely unknown route it ended up being rather hot n hilly 7km. It looks like I maybe stuck there on a weekly basis so I’ll have time to find some other routes.

Hill circuit in the rain today. Slightly better sleep last night, still pretty rubbish. Hopefully it’ll start improving soon.

IRun4Me · 22/08/2020 16:05

emummy I totally get and sympathise about the lack of sleep. I had a week off running because I just didn’t feel I had any energy. Also have realised I now have to actually take care of myself rather than just carrying on regardless.
Anyway nice run this morning and felt fine after a bit of a break

irun4me be kind to yourself I get periods mainly when my hormones are out of whack (lovely peri-menopausal) and we have a puppy disrupting sleep at moment that leave me body tired so I give running a miss and tend to swim or do yoga. Other weeks I feel like I can run miles it ebs & flows so I just go with it now Smile

TriSkiRun99 · 22/08/2020 18:38

Sorry i meant emummy

emummy · 23/08/2020 11:18

Thanks all, peri-menopause is being a real pain at the moment! Apologies if any of my posts are clumsy or even more nonsensical than usual. Am considering HRT as insomnia and a masters degree don’t go well together.
Good luck with the puppy training Tri!
Nice sunny long run today.

emummy do consider HRT I’ve been using oestrogen gel for nearly 3yrs now with the coil it takes the edge off massively giving me the space to then use other self help stuff including running and better eating to manage. My sceptical SIL (snr nurse) gave in 6mths ago after trying anti-Ds yet I kept suggesting that yep at 45 it was more likely to be hormones causing her issues. She too is now feeling more ‘human’. Good luck with what ever you try is a really challenging time of life for some women 😞you truely do feel like your losing your marbles at times! I need to motivate myself to run or do yoga this morning now..

emummy · 25/08/2020 10:09

Thanks Tri, it’s good to hear about others’ experiences.
Managed interval run this morning before the rain

264.5

IRun4Me · 25/08/2020 11:27

emummy I agree with triski. There is no point suffering so it might be worth considering HRT. At the moment I am lucky that mine fluctuates and is manageable but it is something I’d consider.
Wet run this morning. I tried to avoid the deep puddles but kept landing straight in them so had very squelchy feet. But it was a nice run.

Thank you all for your kind wishes. I’ve had a good 10 days off running and realised that all the training and the race had really taken it out of me. It’s so good to be free of the training plan and go back to doing what I feel like!

Definitely listen to what your body is telling you rather than carrying on regardless.

Intervals Tuesday and a progressive 10k this evening.

Glad you’ve recovered Paddington. It is lovely to just go out & run as you feel. My race has just been cancelled so I am just reassessing what I want do.
Easy run yesterday.

Shame about the race emummy I’m waiting to hear if my rescheduled HM in Nov will be cancelled. I need to start seriously running again if it’s going ahead as can only just about do 10k at the moment. I’ve focused on building strength since injury in Feb and getting into trails. Had a stunning beaut run 7am this morning on coastal path would have gone further but had left my teenager looking after the youngest in holiday let, so felt I only had 60mins max. Met some wild cattle too who rather slowed me to a walk in case me running..abit slowly..induced some moment in them Smile. Lovely sea swim later iced my legs too.
