Did an easy 30 min yesterday and did 9km on the bike and an hour of challenging yoga - I'm totally having a rest today! A bit daunted about tomorrow's race pace repeats, the plan sounds horrid, and will be the longest run I've ever done at 7km... Eek! Any tips on race pace repeats? Should I walk between the race pace bits or try and jog slowly?

Welcome Coulddowithanap!
I often walk the first rest bit between intervals then start to jog - so f the rest was 1 minute I walk 30 sec then start jogging.
Lovely easy run this morning.

Same as @emummy. First few intervals I tend to jog straight away and then I need more walking until I’m ready to jog. Don’t worry about being slow in the recoveries. Also normally the target is to run each interval at the same speed (or progressively faster) so watch yourself in the first one and don’t go off too fast. Sometimes I have a warm up interval at not quite full pace.

Family 5km last night. Me and DD targeted a strava segment (Leaving the boys behind) and managed 6th which made her happy

Hello all, dropped off the thread again but found you again to start with July!

@MrsJamin my plan always tells me if I should walk recover or jog recover, generally I’d say slow jog?

11miles so far for me

Well I'm still alive! Managed to do my fastest 5k even though I was walking between my race pace intervals. It was hard though! 😜 Looking forward to easier runs for the next week.

Hi Buster!
Well done MrsJamin! I strangely enjoy intervals, think it’s the walk breaks...
Steady run this morning, had a long lie in first, it was lovely.

Awesome work @MrsJamin I’m toying with a timed 5km next week. Think it’s been since October since I last did one.

Gentle trail run today with company making the time pass quickly. Ended up making my own electrolyte drink (as I’ve run out and needed it counter last nights wine). Actually quite liked it and might get some more powders to do it going forward (I don’t like the plastic tubes that the tablets come in)

Nice to see people coming back

Nice sunny run today, took a drink with me for the first time in a while and needed it to get up the hills! I use active root ginger which comes in a giant tub; it has electrolytes and carbs

Two not-jnr parkruns as children wanted pacing today followed by some gentle miles

16 miles Saturday and 10 miles today both with new ultra vest. No chaffing which was a bonus and not too annoying! Another week ticked off the training plan. New trainers arrived but sadly a bit too small so being returned tomorrow and have reordered a half size bigger.

Good luck all with another weeks running.

10 miles sat and 4.5 today, did my longer run yesterday as had a garden gathering last night. Was a relief not to have long run hanging over my hangover today!

Hello all and welcome coulddowithanap
Couple of runs to add. Yesterday’s was so windy but at least it was easier with the wind behind me.

Tempo run in the sun this morning; didn’t really feel like it - thanks, peri menopause sleep disturbance - but it actually went pretty well.

Summer club handicap race tonight plus warm up followed by Oregon circuits 💦 (we’ve got a two week window to do it in). Mostly trail but with a big fuck off hill in the middle, which was fun

@emummy does it taste of ginger then? Can’t stand ginger in drinks

It’s a bit like flat and less strong ginger beer, so probably not for you! It works for me; I tried Tailwind and found it made me feel quite sick, the ginger seems to suit me better and still tastes ok at the end of a long warm run.
Maybe making your own is the way to go, then you can pick your flavour.

Amaura · 07/07/2020 23:36

I’ve struggled with tailwind as well. Currently using marmite or peanut butter white bread sandwiches and Sis electrolytes, plus a pickled gherkin sometimes too.

Sandwiches might be a bit bulky for road races if I ever pick those up again 😀

IRun4Me · 08/07/2020 07:35

I struggle with the taste of any drinks and can’t do the gels as they make me go strange. I am a fan of peanut butter on toast and then dextrose tablets and water.
River run last night. Was good to go somewhere different for a change - had a short window of opportunity as DS back at sport club.

Intervals last night and recovery this morning.

I’ve been recommended tailwind but not tried it yet. The ginger sounds interesting though.

Nice steady run this morning.
Tailwind was good for giving me steady energy levels, but I couldn’t cope with the nausea, I know a lot of people really like it though. I’ve also heard good things about Ucan, which comes as a drink but also snack bars. Haven’t tried it yet. I do get on well with the active root ginger so will stick with that for now, especially as I’m not doing any marathons this year.

Another who doesn’t like tailwind here, have friends that swear by it, but I just can’t get past the taste! I do quite like the sis gels though so stick with them. Caffeine bullets are also good for a pre 5k burst!

Good interval session on tues and easy miles last night.

Hill reps yesterday and very rainy intervals tonight

IRun4Me · 10/07/2020 07:18

Very short run in the rain after work yesterday. Hard work as I had zero energy

Soaked in the rain but it was on the plan so just got on with it.
Have ordered some ginger root to try.
New trainers arrived a half size bigger but feel too big. Will try them with some slightly thicker socks.

Nice run this morning, got back to a forest we couldn’t go to for a while but now the car park is open again. Was so lovely to run there again, although the hills appear to have got bigger!

Virtual race this morning followed by a long cool down to get some miles in. Active ginger arrived so had one afterwards and it tastes really nice and easy to drink, so think I will be investing in a big tub. Thanks emummy
