Number 14 now full up. I don’t think a new one has been started yet?
November total 191.1. (I think)

Oh no IRun. Make sure you rest up.

Amaura · 11/03/2020 21:42

Definitely leave it for a bit Irun

Had a slightly disappointing pace in a road relay race this afternoon. I knew I’d lost speed with the mileage ramp but it’s the first time I’ve seen it. Tbh the weekend was still in my system as well

However went out for gorgeous head torch trail run and was treating to some beautiful stars at the end (helped by both our headtorches almost running out of battery).

Can I join you all so I don't have to bore my family with my running progress (or lack of)? I only started in January and aready had a bit of a setback so I'm just running 3km whereas I was at 5km. I'm hoping to pick things up when we have lighter evenings so trying to keep things ticking over until then. I'm so keen before and after runs, even looking at technique videos on YouTube! No sign of the actual running getting easier though, does this ever happen?!

What are the numbers at the end of posts?

Panticus · 11/03/2020 23:19

Welcome Anotherthink, I recently joined too Smile It definitely gets easier, but you also get faster and therefore work harder so I am not sure it ever gets to be effortless Grin

The number at the bottom is our total distance in miles. So today I did 3.7 miles so I will add that onto the number above and put the new total at the bottom of my post. It resets at the start of each month.

Intervals for me today - does anyone actually enjoy these? I did 2km warm-up and 4 x 1000 at 4:20 pace which I was happy with. I was pretty dead by the end. Really hoping these interval sessions start to pay off!

IRun4Me · 13/03/2020 08:10

Welcome Anotherthink sounds like you are doing well. Don’t worry everyone has occasional minor setbacks.
Panticus Does enjoying the ‘rest’ bit of intervals actually count as enjoying them Grin

Anotherthink · 13/03/2020 20:32

Oh wow you all cover so many miles! I'm just about to go and force myself to do 5km! It'll be hard as I will have to lap some roads about 3 times to get the distance up but I'll put my music on and try my best.

Intervals sound like a difficult one to do in the street, you don't see people sprinting much

emummy · 13/03/2020 20:52

I quite enjoy intervals, I know that's weird! I think it's getting a wee rest every few minutes and I feel like I've done something good! It does get you weird looks sometimes - we don't have a track so I do mine on the riverside path, dodging dog walkers. We have a very good athlete lives nearby, does nothing for my self esteem when I am working hard in an interval, doing my best 5k pace, when he flows past looking like he's on an easy pace!
Hoping to get out for a run tomorrow, didn't go out this morning as I was just too tired.
Welcome Anotherthink! Keep soldiering on!

Anotherthink · 13/03/2020 21:24

Intervals sound hard! I could maybe do 100m at a fast pace but not a whole kilometre!
So I went out and ran past a load of wine bars and restaurants which was difficult but I managed 5km so I'm rather pleased. It was a bit less actually as I misjudged it and there was no way I was about to run past my house.

8 miles of Intervals Wednesday night. Love intervals as you get to recover in between. 18 mile long run yesterday evening now it’s taper time to my race 2 weeks tomorrow (if it’s not cancelled).

Welcome @Anotherthink. Just FYI we add all our miles together so added yours to the total below plus mine

Very soggy gentle run this morning, easing back into half marathon training, although I don't know if it will go ahead. Be a shame if it didn't, it's part of a one off festival celebrating a historic event, but we'll just have to wait and see.

My race at the beginning of May has been cancelled. Means I can rest up properly as there is no pressure now but I’m hoping I don’t lose my momentum as now nothing in the diary to aim for.

Pinkstars2501 · 14/03/2020 19:43

Hi, sorry to ask because I've never posted on this thread. But does anyone know if the Manchester 10k is still on in May?

The runnersworld instagram page said it is, but there's nothing on the Great Run web page?

Amaura · 14/03/2020 21:01

Afraid I don’t know about that Pinkstars

18 miles today, over 13 of which were purely on footpaths (the rest just getting to the start and back). I was really pleased with the route, plus it’s the furthest I’ve done in two years.

Plus another 4 ish earlier in the week

I’m pretty good at intervals as I recover quickly, however it means I can’t translate it into sustained running so everyone always been surprised at my 5-10km times.

Also starting to wonder how to balance recovery whilst maintaining a good mileage base since I’m not due to do a marathon until July.

All you interval lovers are sick Grin Nice long run with my husband this weekend to celebrate his 40th. My legs felt a little heavy but I survived - paying the price for not giving them any days off this week!

We've had some of the big runs cancelled over here but the lower key trail run events are still taking place. I have a half coming up in May that I fear will not go ahead.

Quick progressive 4 this morning (prefer intervals though).

My trail marathon has been cancelled in early May so I’m pretty gutted but understand. Still no news on my 20 mile race in 2 weeks so keeping with the training plan and carrying on regardless for the time being.

emummy · 15/03/2020 12:45

No need on my race either, I wonder if they’re going to wait till nearer the time. It’s a half so not as big a training commitment as a full.
Nice wee run in the sun this morning, only needed t shirt & capris for first time this year. Still a bit tired after being ill & not running but getting there.

Club run tonight, last one till who knows when. All a bit somber and not really knowing what lies ahead. 20 mile race cancelled but hope it’s replanned later in the year. Ultra race in August no news yet.

My half has now been rescheduled for September

emummy · 17/03/2020 08:05

Easy plod this morning now no longer training. Lovely sunshine, ran along the river.
Hopefully it will help me deal with the madness of rearranging work for the virus.

TriSkiRun99 · 17/03/2020 21:02

Hopefully we can all keep running even if it’s solo...DH had his ultra moved from April to Oct, and my event moved from May now. Our local running group has now cancelled all meet ups Sad I’m still nursing my leg but switched to walking everywhere instead of running and now I’m racking up the steps Smile without the impact. But hopefully I can keep ticking over my fitness and re-start running in April.

Amaura · 17/03/2020 21:51

This is potentially very outing (but a relatively new username). This is/was my first year as race director for our club annual half. Today we sent out all the cancellation emails.

This is not without a lot of work, especially as we’re a small team of volunteers. Of course everyone wants answers straight away but it takes time to work out the details. It’s been a bit stressful

To compensate I ran a beautiful 10km tonight plus some recovery miles on Sunday

emummy · 17/03/2020 22:11

I hope everyone appreciates your efforts Amaura! I am a regular RD at our parkrun and that takes enough effort, I can’t imagine the work that goes into a half.

IRun4Me · 18/03/2020 08:35

I hope people have been understanding Amaura and that it is out of your hands.
I’m still off running due to the back. Missing it like crazy - especially at the moment when I feel I really do need it. But I am taking the dog out for nice walks.

Intervals in the rain tonight, felt like hard work and my heart wasn’t really in it, but another run done.

Managed to find a 20 mile charity virtual run for March, so just need to find a good day, submit my evidence and they send you a medal. Just want to achieve what I’ve been training for then I can move on.
