Anybody else in London ballot?

It's the first time I've entered. I didn't think I'd be bothered but now we're approaching d day (week after next I'm guessing?) Ive become obsessed and am writing imaginary training plans Blush

When I entered I thought that if I got a spot, I'd defer it to give myself a year to put extra miles in my legs. But now I don't care about the extra miles...!!

Might look for other spring marathons.... K own I couldn't commit to fundraising for charity place.

12 of us on this thread. Do you reckon the odds are longer than one in twelve? Maybe we'll all get in

13 of us, welcome kitty! Really impressed at the charity entry. I would find the fundraising much harder than the training, and God knows I find the training really tough Grin

I'm going to enter Brighton next year I think, it sells out super quick, doesn't it? I am so full of running dreams...

Thank you tim, I’m hoping it goes well tomorrow. I used to live near Cardiff too so it has been a goal for a while to run it.

I’ve seen on a running group on FB that some have received their ‘no’ magazines today. Sad

I know the stats are low (is it 7%?) but fingers crossed one of us gets in at least

RunningOutOfCharge · 30/09/2017 16:10

Magazines out today?

I’ve not seen this anywhere... is there a link?

Purplerunner · 30/09/2017 16:20

I'm in the ballot too. Never done a marathon before. My friend (who has done London and other marathons before) had a GFA time but missed the deadline for applying Hmm. Meanwhile, doing the GSR half marathon for the third time tomorrow.

Runwayqueen · 30/09/2017 22:08

Running I don’t think they were meant to arrive today but someone on RMR shared they had got a rejection today.* I want to believe it’s fake but I’m not sure.*

There was some fuss on there the other night about the most recent VLM email and the realbuzz account it’s linked to.* Lots of people when clicking on unsubscribe were showing VLM issue 2, which is apparently a rejection issue. I was showing it too on my realbuzz.* I guess I’ll know by this time next week Confused

Sorry for the overuse of bold there Shock

RunningOutOfCharge · 30/09/2017 22:15

oh god, yes,i'd forgotten that trick

Migrant2 · 30/09/2017 22:26

I’m in the ballot. Did it in 2015 as an overseas runner ( basically buy a place through a travel company!). Website says first week of Oct for ballIot results
I did Brighton last year. Cannot begin to tell you how terrible it was. 25 deg C and no drinks after mile 8 for the slower runners. Nothing. Aid stations packed up. Ran out of finishers shirts. No water at the finish, just Luke warm strawberry Weetabix drinks. Lovely crowd supporters but dreadful organisation. I could go on....
Good luck to all for ballot.

timshortfforthalia · 30/09/2017 23:31

Runway queen, I tried that unsubscribe thing after reading about it on rw forums. I too got vlm issue 2.

I guess we might find out this week if it's true or not. No way of knowing til people have had the 'you're in' magazines. Could just be that vlm have sorted out this loop hole, everyone gets the vlm issue 2 email. But because some people have also had the commiserstions mag they are putting two and two together (poss incorrectly)..
Time will tell!

Sorry to hear that about Brighton migrant, I had high hopes for it at some point

Looks like lots of you are looking at Brighton for 2018. It’s a big race. Brighton Mara has a Facebook page. Well worth reading all the post race comments from last year. It’s a great city, the community support is incredible. However it has had two consecutive years of organisations issues. I’d definitely be Very cautious, but surely they’ll have fixed it by now....

kazza106 · 01/10/2017 02:32

I'm also waiting. Only ever managed a half marathon so it will be 'interested' if I get in,🤔

90skid · 01/10/2017 07:41

Im also hoping for a ballot place Grin would be my first marathon but have decided if i dont get in i will do another instead. Blackpool is the same day and nearer to me so might do that!!

timshortfforthalia · 01/10/2017 08:07

I just found a breakdown of how the 40000 places are allocated. There are about 20000 places for ballot entries. In 2016 there were 267000 ballot entries. Assuming the numbers stay the sane, that's one in thirteen chance.

Disclaimer. My maths may be completely wrong Grin

I'm in the ballot - 5th time. Really really want to do it but pretty sure I won't get in. I applied for a charity place but didn't get that either - maybe London doesn't like me!

I read it's a 1 in 23 chance this year from those that entered the ballot 🤞🏻

Imstyledilemma · 01/10/2017 08:50

Can I join you?
Another one here who is stupidly excited and terrified in equal measures!

I entered the ballot in a purely 'seemed like a good idea at the time' frame of mind Blush
I'm an older, novice runner , who's only taken up running recently and who's only ever done a 5k,
So I would really have my work cut out for me if I did get a place.

One thing in my favour is I'm quite fit, a good weight and very stubborn, and I've discovered I enjoy running plodding so I would stick to the training plan, even if it killed me.
I would train as best I could, and come March, if I'm still not ready by then, I would defer to the following year. Sounds like a plan?

It's just my luck I will get a place! Shock

Migrant2 · 01/10/2017 08:56

Styledilemna ,just had to say I love your attitude and I'm so hoping you get a place! I dragged my bum off the sofa at 44 and now I've run several marathons and a 100km ultra. All of which have been done slowly but with utter determination. Us older plodders can conquer the world ( if we just get a ballot spot....)

Imstyledilemma · 01/10/2017 08:59

Thanks Migrant! Smile

glorious · 01/10/2017 09:04

Me! I entered as my half marathon training was going really well at the time (I've done one before but it was going better). Then I did my ankle in and had to stop. So now I'm not sure I'd be fit enough to run but we'll see!

Notonthestairs · 01/10/2017 09:59

I've also tried clicking on the Realbuzz unsubscribe and got VLM issue 2.

MoonlightBay · 01/10/2017 10:22

Waiting to find out too. I read on a facebook running group, that Issue 2 refers to the email about Mo Farah running it.

Notonthestairs · 01/10/2017 11:15

My unsubscribe list says:- "VMLM 2017 unsuccessful donated notification"
"You could still be running"
The second bit refers to opportunities for charity places.
14 ballot attempts. I think I get the message now Grin.
Good luck everyone. I'll still watch and cry like I do every year.

MoonlightBay · 01/10/2017 11:18

Oh stairs, that is a shame. Do you plan on doing any others?

Notonthestairs · 01/10/2017 12:26

I've been put off Brighton (my brother didn't think much of the organisational aspects of it). Might think about somewhere like Paris or Amsterdam. I just always wanted to run London. Although I am starting to get long in the tooth and maybe its for the best I stick to HalfM's!

timshortfforthalia · 01/10/2017 12:44

Windermere! Come on, let's mumsnet the lake district up!
