Purple it’ll soon all be off and you’ll be back to normal, I know you, you won’t skip workouts unless there are extenuating circumstances!

Yumy it could be bloating from things like the beans if you aren’t used to it? Have you tried inputting into MFP after weighing portions? Maybe that will be an eye opener as whenever I have a day where I’m strict and log everything I’m Shock at how it adds up to more than I think. I’ve done one cxworx and found it a tough workout too. I didn’t do the one with leg cycling (luckily as my dodgy arm couldn’t cope with bending and holding up my body) but the one I did had a lot of weird twisty lunges with the resistance band. I ached the next day! FWIW food wise I find porridge a great comfort food when I’m desperate for carbs.

Thermo it’s really disheartening having days like that where things seem tight and you’re not feeling it —I get them a lot— I sympathise. I reckon your booty will just get even firmer and won’t grow!

Double workout for me yesterday with a body attack class and yoga class. We did actual group ‘oommmmmmmmmmm’ s at the end of the yoga!

So I have good news and bad news. Bad news is I’m feeling rubbish, think I’m getting proper ill :( . Good news is (bear with me) I’ve got a log in for my GP records online so had a nose and all my test results were up there for the past ten years or so. My BMI was logged as 43 circa 2012. I just worked out my BMI now and it’s more like 23, so I’ve almost halved my BMI since 2012! I’m feeling quite rocking! It is the boost I need after feeling quite down with my fitness and weight recently.

Purpleraindeer · 22/02/2018 21:40

I’m starting to feel left out with all the les mills chat. Am thinking about signing up though so it’s doing it’s work!

Poppy - I don’t know what to advise re food. I’m back on a high protein diet and I basically eat eggs, meat and vegetables. Porridge is a good idea though- I love porridge. You were right re water weight. I’ve lost 1.5kg in 4 days. Has actually not been as hard as I thought doing mfp - am eating 1300/1400 Cals per day.

Roman I really sympathise with the feeling of weight creeping up on you. I weigh myself every week and even then when I put my weight in on mon I was a bit shocked as the chart in mfp showed an upward trend for 3mths. So I reset the scale for 6mths -was the same - so I reset it again for 12mths and still showed an upward trend. Shock Anyway - am making a dent in it now but still was a bit appalled at how it had crept on. I guess it’s really easily done. Don’t be downhearted re 80do. It obviously is doing its work so just stick with it.

Reastie - I cannot believe your bmi reduction. That is unbelievable!!! Star wow. You should be a poster girl for weight loss and keeping it off. It’s so rare that people manage it - I’m assuming you had a total lifestyle change to achieve it?

Purpleraindeer · 22/02/2018 21:42

Oops - I forgot to post my exercise! I did max out cardio, eccentric lower p90x3 and then max out sweat this week. I am tired and am excited for my rest day!

yumyumpoppycat · 23/02/2018 17:22

What will happen now Purple is you will sign up and my les mills sub will run out! Actually if you sign up I might keep it for one more month then have a break. I am beginning to miss beach body workouts now and want to try the 80 day thing.

I did body combat 35 which is only 25 minutes, no equipment, and was so fun! Think it is my favourite lmod so far. Bit dancey so I was glad to be doing it on my own in the front room. I feel a bit lightweight doing body combat but enjoy it and usually end up sweaty by the end. This one had bear crawls and pushups at the end so slightly more hardcore.

I think having the lmod app on my firetv and being able to scroll through the workouts so easily has been part of why I have enjoyed it - they all state length of time and equipment needed without having to press play which is easier than looking through a separate booklet as with dvds (even then hammer and chisel for example doesn't state the workout running times anywhere).

Thanks for diet tips - I agree it's probably a lack of protein and the beans making me bloated. I had porridge for breakfast with pecans and banana, was quite filling but I forgot the effect oats have on me - I was worried I wasn't going to make it to the loo in time - think that means the fibre is clearing out the beans so maybe it's good Blush . I couldn't be a vegan but I think something along the lines of meat/fish/egg for dinner but beans, nuts, veg, grains etc for breakfast and lunch - not sure.

Theromanempire · 26/02/2018 16:32

3 days without any messages! We need a new thread soon if anyone wants to start one?

Nothing really to report here - just getting on with 80DO. Did day 21 today so in the last week of phase 1 now - all new exercises from next Monday onwards which I am looking forward to. If anyone is thinking of giving it a go, I am loving it. Even though each workout in phase 1 is repeated each week for 4 weeks, each time it is different in respect of the number of reps you do and the pattern of exercises (even though the actual moves/exercises stay the same). It is good so you are constantly challenging your body each time as it is different to the week before (not sure if that makes sense to anyone but me Grin).

Anyway, did Total Body Core this morning and it was hard!! However, it is quite embarrassing as all the cast are lifting far more weight than me Blush The heaviest weights I use are 5kg ones whereas they lift 12kg regularly! Me and DH are struggling a bit as we only have a small number of weights and I can't go any heavier as those are the weights DH uses. What do you all do? Have looked at a rack of weights but they are so expensive Hmm

Hope you all had a good weekend Smile

Purpleraindeer · 27/02/2018 21:09

Hi roman.
Your post made total sense - good to have a bit of variety but also know that as you’re doing the same exercises you know you’re building on the previous week. I am on week 3 of p90x3 mth 2 and the workouts are getting a bit repetitive so I’m quite envious

On the weights I have the same problem. I use 8kg for most things. For arm ones I’m normally 4kg. I can’t help thinking if I had a bigger variety of weights it would all be more effective but they’re so expensive. I would quite like some 6kg and some 10kg. I can’t believe the 80do cast all are using 12kg - it’s American so are you sure it’s not 12lb?

Hi to all! Smile

Theromanempire · 27/02/2018 21:46

purple no I have done the calculations...they use 25lb, 22lb, 20lb etc. The heaviest one Autumn used was 45lbs Shock as she wanted to show a different way to hold your weights during squats. I agree that I feel it would be much more effective if I had a bigger variety of weights to use!

yumyumpoppycat · 28/02/2018 13:39

I have a powerblock set www.amazon.co.uk/PowerBlock-Sport-2-4-Adjustable-Dumbbells/dp/B000A6T9I8/ref=cts_sp_1_vtp?tag=mumsnetforum-21 , unfortunately it looks as though the price lowered to £108 and they have now sold out on amazon, so price is inflated now. To be honest I don't really use the heavy weight settings much and dp has started using them so he has them upstairs next to his cross-trainer in the box room, I normally only use equipment if its to hand but will steal them back if I need to! I also use a mishmash of kettlebells 4, 6 and 8kg and an adjustable light set.

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/02/2018 17:10

Can anyone recommend a Jillian Michaels' programme? I downloaded her app but am torn between Slim 60 or the bikini body one. Any suggestions? I only have about 3kg to lose and do Les Mills classes about 3 times a week. I tried the Kayla Itsines BBG for a month and although I liked it, it wasn't great on my knees.

yumyumpoppycat · 01/03/2018 00:32

Hi Queen are the workouts on the JM app the same as her dvds? I haven't tried the workouts you mentioned but her workouts are good so fingers crossed you enjoy them! Think we have had posters who pop on now and again that do JM workouts but not sure there is anyone at the mo so might be worth starting a sep thread as bound to be others on the exercise board using the app. You are more than welcome to join us for exercise chat though!

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/03/2018 10:11

I'm not sure as I've never done her DVDs. I posted in Weight loss chat and have had no responses so I'll repost in Exercise and see what happens.

Theonlyoneiknow · 01/03/2018 11:20

Hi All, can I join please :) Although I mainly run (marathons) I have started doing weight training and am loving it and the difference it is making, especially to my upper body. I do body pump classes at my local gym but logistically isn't always easy. Also JM DVDs at home. Is the Les Mills app good/worth it? Also looking at getting a set of weights/bar so can do Body Pump at home. Decathlon sell both, or can anyone recommend where to get some? I picked up the bar in Decathlon and it was really heavy!
TIA and looking forward to the chat!

Theromanempire · 01/03/2018 15:31

Queen welcome to the thread Smile I have only done a couple of JM workouts - I prefer the Beachbody ones - so can't really advise you.

Theonlyone welcome to the thread aswell - the more the merrier Smile Bodypump is excellent for resistance training and the workouts on the Les Mills On Demand are the same as gym classes although obviously you do need the equipment. Me and DH are also looking for some weights but they are so expensive so can't really advise. I have found some at Sports Direct but not sure if they do barbells (I am looking for dumbbells). Stick around for the chat - I think most of us do Beachbody and Les Mills but also do general exercise chat aswell Smile

Yum I would love some of those adjustable weights and could probably afford one pair but then me and DH would argue over who could use them Grin DH is due a bonus soon so might treat us to 2 sets then - they obviously take up much less room than individual weighted dumbbells so double bonus.

Unexpected bonus of an additional workout tonight (who would have thought that the chance to do an extra workout was a good thing??) so think we might do 21df Flat Abs. I haven't done it since I started 80DO so I am interested in how much my abs/core have developed and whether I will notice a difference in how well I can do the exercises - quite excited about that really (god I am so sad!)

Purpleraindeer · 02/03/2018 06:12

Welcome queen and theonly

I can’t advise on lesmills but others can. I think I will bite the bullet and buy new weights. It’s just a matter of time and persuading DH that we need more gym stuff in our living room!

I don’t think your excited to exercise feeling is sad roman- or if it is, I am too as I feel like that all the time. Hope the workout is good and you feel like you’ve had a breakthrough. I love that.

Did max out sweat last night. Thought I’d had a breakthrough as was finding it really easy but then got all knackered at 15mins then limped to the end as usual. That one is hard. Still plugging away at diet and have lost 1.5kg. Feels like a lot of hard work to have lost that little but I guess that’s diets for you!

yumyumpoppycat · 02/03/2018 10:30

Theonlyone I am totally happy with the les mills app so far, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the free trial (although I did forget to cancel si have ended up paying for a month!). Maybe try it without a barbell first (unless you want one anyway and have the space) as even bodypump has at least one workout with lots of hand weight stuff. I do have a step (cheap one not les mills) and that helps as there is a bodystep section. Bodybalance, bodycombat and body attack do not need equipment. I wouldn't say I prefer les mills to beach body workouts but nice to have variety.

Roman that is brilliant that you love your workouts not sad at all - I am very jealous - working out is sometimes fun but I find fitting it in hard and don't prioritise as much as I should.

Purple well done on your weightloss! I think the cold is making me hungry so you are doing really well to lose weight at all in this snow!

YuleABUnREASTIEable · 02/03/2018 11:22

Hi all, I’ve been awol stressing about the snow this week and with my ear firmly to the snow thread. Had a whole week off work as Monday was my day off! Dds school closed 4 days and dh also Home as can’t work so been a weird week. Managed some workouts including BA, cx worx, body balance, body step, and today did insanity pure cardio. Haven’t done insanity for months and months and usually first time doing it after a long break I have to do a lot of pauses and collapse in a heat, even in the warm up I have to stop at least twice. I’m happy to say I didn’t pause once in the warm up and found it much easier than last time Shock . I had 3-4 breaks in the whole thing which for me isn’t too bad at all, especially given I haven’t done it in so long. All I can think is BA is keeping my cardio fitness nice and strong.

Hello to the new people! I can’t help with JM I’m afraid, my only experience of her is my shred dvd which I haven’t used in years.

Theonly I love the lm app, the only thing that annoys me is you don’t get the new releases from rl classes straight away, so for exampl I think at my local class we are currently in BA100 whereas on LMOD it’s more like 97 or 98. Definitely worth doing the free trial and agree with the suggestion to try it with hand weights before buying a barbell to see how you go with that. I also enjoy cx worx, bodystep, body attack, and body balance on the app. I would love combat if I could do it but I can’t with a dodgy arm. I have a reebok step I got ages ago from amazon that I’m very happy with and it was a lot cheaper than the LM step.

I have a barbell and adjustable hand weights but got them ages ago so can’t link. I got mine from amazon and my barbell is a traditional one like this www.amazon.co.uk/Bodymax-Standard-Spinlock-Barbell-collars/dp/B000LAVW9M/ref=sr_1_24?s=fitness&keywords=Barbell&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1519989397&sr=1-24 . It’s heavier than the pump ones so you use less weight. It also takes a bit longer to change the weights but that doesn’t bother me. I’ve had it now probably for 2-3 years and had no problems with it. My adjustable hand weights are a bit like this www.amazon.co.uk/York-Fitness-Cast-Dumbbell-Spinlock/dp/B004ELB550/ref=sr_1_4?s=sports&keywords=adjustable+weights&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1519989561&sr=1-4 and came with the barbell so the barbell weights are interchangeable with the hand ones. I think it was about £100 for them including the weights.

Purple I knew you’d be on it quickly with the weight loss!

I’ve noticed I’m putting on weight since the physio said I’m not allowed to workout 6-7 times a week and I need to do 4 per week. I’ve been sneaking that up to 5-6 a week sometimes [naughty]

Theromanempire · 03/03/2018 11:00

Morning. Glad to report that 21df Flat Abs Fix was marginally easier than previously 🤣 the problem is that 80DO involves only ever doing 16 reps of any move at a time so you are holding yourself in plank for a maximum of about 30 seconds so to suddenly have to hold a plank for 60 seconds was really hard and it was definitely my arms and shoulders that were giving way rather than my core so there is definitely some improvement there 😊

It sounds like we are all 'in the zone' at the moment which is fab!

reastie did you ever speak to the gym about why you were cancelling your membership?

Doing Legs today and then AAA tomorrow and phase 1 of 80DO is done!

Purpleraindeer · 05/03/2018 07:58

Well done on 80do roman. That has gone fast (maybe not for you though!) sounds like it’s really effective. I’m curious now.....

Reastie - good work on pure cardio. That is a tough workout. I always underestimate it and think it’s just mth 1 no problem and then am knackered after a few mins.

Not a totally successful weekend workout wise for me. Did incinerator on sat (the upper body one). Felt hardcore as I did Popeye hammer curls with my 8kg weights. Unfortunately work got in the way a bit yesterday so missed triometrics. Will do it today but am already weirded out by that as Monday is normally a rest day. I’m a terrible creature of habit.

Have a good day all! Smile

Theromanempire · 05/03/2018 10:02

Purple I am absolutely loving 80DO and would totally recommend it. We are only doing 4 out of the 6 weekly workouts (we are not doing the booty one or one of the cardio ones which is like the 21dfx Challenge workout which I hate so we are just substituting in another cardio workout such as Core de Force or Speed). The only downside is the length of the workouts which are between 30-60 minutes with the majority around 50 minutes but we have managed to fit it in (although the DC hate it as we take over the Xbox whilst we do it Grin) Give it a try and see what you think?

I know what you mean about having to switch workout days etc - always throws me too but I am a terrible creature of habit too Blush

YuleABUnREASTIEable · 05/03/2018 18:42

Thermo the gym guy never rung when he said he would and then sent an email saying he’d been stuck in a meeting all day Hmm . Haven’t heard anything since and that was nearly 2 weeks ago, haven’t even been told when my membership actually runs out. Typically shoddy of them, I’m not surprised!

Did a lm grit Plyo workout on Saturday. Oh. My. Goodness. It was so hard! I’m not sure if it was actually really hard or just because my body was tired and achey from insanity the day before. I thought of purple as I was doing it though as I think it’d be right up your street.

Thermo I really like the flat abs fix —but it never gets easier for me—

Did body balance on Sunday as I was aching so much from grit and insanity and today I did a quick run to get something in although my glutes are really painful, it feels like someone is sticking pens inside each of them from the side iykwim (that’s a really random comparison but it’s how it feels)

Theromanempire · 05/03/2018 19:53

Just thought I would share the Total Body Core phase 2 workout is just evil! Me and DH cursed the entire way through 🙈 I dread to think what phase 3 is going to be like.

And to really piss me off, the modifier doesn't really bother anymore - just does the same as everyone else - which is really helpful Hmm

Theromanempire · 06/03/2018 21:54

Well slightly more positive post tonight! Only had time for a 30 minute workout today so we decided to do 21df Upper Fix. Couple of NSV's - I managed some push ups on my toes (admittedly I didn't get that far down but I'm counting them 😂). I did 7 in the first set and 6 in the second set. Then there is 2 x 60 second plank holds in the workout. Normally the first one is just about manageable and the second one hurts a lot! Tonight, the first one was an absolute breeze and the second one was slightly harder but still much easier than normal.

So, having blanked out the horror of yesterday's workout, I have to say that 80DO rocks 😂
