Purple maybe check out power blocks ££s but they really don't take up much space. I am really cross with with my dh as he has moved my step from behind the sofa where it couldn't be seen (but was pushing chair forward an inch, to the dining room where it can be seen but isn't taking up floor space. I liked having all my gym stuff hidden in the front room only to transform into a gym like the bat cave or something.

I was also disappointed about BB lack of exciting box Eleanore. I might aim to start midway between you and disappointed. I haven't been exercising this week so need to build up to it.

Reastie · 03/03/2017 19:02

Purple maybe a p90x3 to ease you back in? I like I think isometrix which is holding different poses for nearly a minute each. Sounds really easy but you really sweat!

Well, thank goodness af has arrived, phew! Managed 25 min gentle run on thurs and hoping for 30 minute today. Really want to do another workout on Sunday but I'm going to be good and rest and hope finally I can get to my step class on Monday.

I'm new to ALL of this can someone give me the low down?

7 months pregnant currently with baby number 3 DP and I have our wedding booked for 6 months after baby is born.

I have no access to a gym or regular sitter for the other kids..

yumyumpoppycat · 05/03/2017 13:01

Hi Bottomly, congratulation and welcome!! Apparently it isn't a good idea to start 'new' exercise when pregnant, what sort of workouts are you doing at the moment? Something like hip hop abs would prob be fine though.

Purpleraindeer · 05/03/2017 17:19

Hello all - I'm exercising again SmileGrin
Yay. I'm soooo glad to be back. Accidentally started with max30 tabata strength. Got it confused with tabata power which I like as it has lots of breaks. Was easier to get back than I expected though.

Welcome bottomly. I wouldn't start until you have the baby. But once you feel recovered at home DVDs are a great way to get fit when you have to look after a baby/DC too. That's how I started and I'm properly addicted now.

BottomlyP0tts · 05/03/2017 19:11

What DVDs can you reccomend? I was doing Pilates/ballet and some Kayla itsine stuff but that's fallen to the wayside and now am lucky to get in a few squats and a gentle walk each day.

EleanorAbernathy · 06/03/2017 00:22

Welcome Bottomley - I've only tried the Shaun T ones (Insanity, T25 and Max:30) - I think Insanity is the best, but it depends how you're feeling after you've had the baby, Insanity is very jumpy up and downy and pretty intense!
T25 may be better to start with as it breaks you in gently - and isn't that long so you can always do two in a row! There's also a modifier you can follow.

I ended up doing an 8 mile hike for my 4th workout - then blew it all and had a pizza to celebrate finishing Trinity! Then I felt guilty and signed up to another cycle (sorry credit card - I will pay you off one day I promise!) but I'm not starting it until April - so from tomorrow I shall be Body Beasting and cutting my calories a bit.

I've been reading the Dumbbells and Diapers blog on Body Beast and it looks like I can do it with my swiss ball and a chair - we do have a bench but it doesn't do the incline bit so will probably not use it.

EleanorAbernathy · 06/03/2017 00:24

Oops posted too soon - great that you're exercising again Purple and lol at accidentally doing Tabata Strength! Grin

Reastie · 06/03/2017 12:38

Hello all,

Hi bottomly. Agree with other comments here about not starting anything new but won't hurt to get something ready for once you can! I'd say t25 might be a good choice as there is a modifier so you can make the moves as easy or hard as you need to and they only last 25 minutes. You will need some weights and a mat from memory though.

Excellent news, I did my first proper gym aerobics class after five weeks with my injury issues. It felt amazing to be back proper. Also did a 30 minute run at the week end. I still feel like I'm only doing half or less of my usual but I'll take half rather than nothing! I can feel my body getting flabby and losing tone from my break yet the scales still say I've lost weight and body fat. How can that be?!

This break is showing me the importance of resting though. Usually I do something every single day, with swimming and yoga as my active recovery days so I don't really count them. I'm wondering if I should have a couple of actual days off a week to rest my old body and it might help prevent future injuries. I have this constant 'if I don't workout ever day I'll get fat again' voice in my head but I think that's wrong maybe...

Purple glad for you you're back on it but Shock at the shock to your system at the workout choice!

Eleanor 8 mile hike sounds great so does pizza

Well done on trinity Eleanor. You had me googling bodybeast and barbells when I read your post. I like the idea of bodybeast rather than trinity as I'm quite addicted to exercise DVDs - I find it more motivating than having to do a set workout on my own if you know what I mean.

Reastie - am so pleased to hear your back exercising. I think you're right re the rest days. I can't handle more than 5dpw exercising. I'd definitely get injured if I worked out every day.

Have decided to do p90x3 again - I want some muscles and strength Smile. I was amazed to find that I hadn't put on weight despite 10days off - I guess reastie exercise is less important than we think it is for maintaining weight. I did feel quite soft and flabby when I did total synergistics today though. Let's hope I get back to my old shape soon.

Roman - hope you're ok. Are you still doing your hybrid?

EleanorAbernathy · 08/03/2017 05:40

I have started Body Beast! To make up for replacing my Sunday workout with pizza, I did a double on Monday - Chest/Triceps followed by legs. These are quicker for me than the Trinity workouts as I have to follow the DVD so it stops me faffing about between sets!
Sagi is very cheesy but makes me laugh. I thought maybe I hadn't been lifting heavy enough as I woke up pain free - then I went to put my coat on at lunch time and my arms wouldn't go up - then my legs didn't want to sit back down! Grin

Back and biceps yesterday - I finally assembled the door pull-up bar I bought ages ago. As expected, I can't do a pull up but I can get slightly up and not just hang there pathetically, which surprised me. I got a few in with the assist band as it sort of boings you up there, but still hurts.

DP got home before I'd done and said "This is for MEN! Look at those meatheads, they look like doormen!" Which made me want to lift heavier Grin

Cardio and Abs tonight. If I have time I'll do shoulders too and have a day off tomorrow!

Good to hear you're ack eercising Reastie!

EleanorAbernathy · 08/03/2017 05:40

Or even back exercising! (See, even my fingers ae knackered!)

yumyumpoppycat · 08/03/2017 07:18

Fantastic news you are back to exercise Purple and Reastie!! I am planning on doing my first workout in a while today.

Exciting about Bodybeast Eleanor Grin at your reaction to your dh is to want to lift even heavier! Do you have a barbell, when I start I am going to have to do it without.

EleanorAbernathy · 08/03/2017 12:08

We do have a barbell but you don't need one - one of the meatheads in the background is modifying for if you have less - he'll show you how to do the stuff where you meant to have a bench and a barbell just with a Swiss ball and dumbells.

I did this for most things so I could have less weights around to trip over!

yumyumpoppycat · 08/03/2017 12:30

Good to know thanks Eleanor - will watch out for the meathead at the back Grin

Nowhere near body beast ready just yet. I did a body weight DVD today, it was by Mark lauren - was slow and kept showing weird diagrams of the muscles being worked but the actual routines 'complexes' Confused were pretty hard. my back was totally fine, but my legs clicking and clacking and crunching alarmingly Shock, hopefully if I drink more water and get back into exercise it will ease off.

EleanorAbernathy · 08/03/2017 17:11

OK I just about managed Beast Cardio (a lot of the moves wouldn't be out of place on a Jillian Michaels Video)- it would have been easier if I didn't hurt so much everywhere!

In the stretches at the end Sagi gets you to say "I'm a winner!" and "I'm a beast!" so I obliged. Blush

I can probably just about manage abs - it's only 11 minutes - then shoulders is cancelled because my arms still don't go up! Will have to be 3 rest days as I'm off to a festival this weekend, I shall dance for my workouts! Grin

Purpleraindeer · 08/03/2017 20:44

'I'm a winner! I'm a beast!' Grin Eleanor!
I hope the arms recover. My puny arms are always ruined after upper body workouts. I do love that feeling tho - it means something good must have happened.

I read a bit of the dumbbells and diapers blog on body beast. It does expose a gap in the market for a more unisex weight lifting workout as it all seems very testosterone heavy. Looks effective tho!

I did agility x tonight. I had remembered thinking it was rubbish but I actually enjoyed it. I felt like I worked bloody hard too. I noticed there was an option on the DVD to have the music and the cues from Tony Horton but no chat. I reckon a few people have used that option!

Reastie · 09/03/2017 15:28

Purple I sort of like but dislike agility x. It feels like insanity asylums speed and agility's poorer cousin in comparison but then I've also had a good workout with it and find it less impossible.

Eleanor hope the arms will lift soon!

Yummy my knees have always clicked all the time, it can be embarrassing sometimes!

28 minute run yesterday and 40 minute swim this morning. All very gentle exercise but it's exercise so I'll take it! Back to physiology today and I've got a programme of weight work to rehabilitate me (hopefully) so I will have to dust off my barbell for the likes of chest presses which I haven't done in a year due to injury, hope this gets me back on track and I'm excited even if the weights are minuscule.

Purpleraindeer · 10/03/2017 06:25

That's great on the rehab reastie. Remember the importance of those rest days! I have one today Smile

Did 'the challenge' last night. Argh. That one hurts. I don't think I'll be lifting my arms today. Am really feeling the effects of exercising again - have been quite sore most days and really tired by bedtime. I think p90x3 is having some effect. I do like being back to 30min workouts too Smile. Have a good day everyone

Theromanempire · 10/03/2017 12:01

Hi everyone, sorry I have been AWOL but life has just been busy! I have been reading all your posts, just not found the time to reply.

Reastie great news on the exercise front and yes, I think rest days are extremely important. I have mentioned before that I follow Tania on FB and she is always saying that she only does workouts 5 days a week.

I agree that a unisex weights workout would be fab and something that could be done with dumbbells rather than a barbell. I would really like a 30-minute weights workout that wasn't testosterone fuelled men or prancing around women with 1kg weights in their hand Hmm 21df is not far off but still isn't just a weight-lifting workout.

I am still doing my hybrid although the last few weeks have been hit and miss in respect of the amount of workouts that have been done. This is the first week where I have stuck to it completely and I am also watching what I eat - I feel like something has (eventually) changed in my mindset so hopefully that will continue. The workouts are mainly 21df and T25 with the odd BBL one thrown in - DH hates those days Grin. To be fair to Leandro, they aren't bad workouts - he is just bloody annoying and constantly refers to the other exercisers as 'his girls' Hmm at which point me and DH tell him that he should go and watch T25 videos to see how you can be gay and not at all camp He is also shit at explaining what the next exercise is so you spend a lot of time not knowing what you should be doing (really selling it here aren't I?)

Anyway, good workouts everyone - 21df Barre Legs for me tonight which DH is really looking forward to Grin

Hope you are all ok Smile

yumyumpoppycat · 10/03/2017 13:48

Roman so glad you are back and feeling on it - I am not 100% on it so you are inspiring me! Have to do it now I have said it!

PS chalean is heavy weights and has its flaws chalean's sparkly outfits but I quite like it apart from the warm ups. I think Hammer and chisel was trying to get the unisex thing going and there are no barbells. Having said that there is a workout where there is some weirdness going on with sagi and the female workerouterer, she is literally gritting her teeth when he talks to her.

Hope you are ok disappointed? and waves to everyone.

Purpleraindeer · 11/03/2017 14:37

Good to hear from you roman. Glad you're 'in the zone'. I know exactly what you mean re eating. Sometimes I'm really focussed on it, sometimes I just can't be bothered.

Did warrior today. Had a choice between that and cvx. Did warrior as felt tired and cvx is hard so have put off my pain until tomorrow. Smile

Purpleraindeer · 13/03/2017 08:56

Hopefully everyone had good weekends. Struggled through cvx yesterday. Rest day today Smile

Read an article that said using protein powder has gone mainstream so I don't need to be embarrassed about it anymore. I've always felt a bit weird about it as if I shouldn't use it as I'm not a 'proper body builder'

Reastie · 13/03/2017 13:48

Purple well done for cvx, I do hate that one but feel so great afterwards.

Had a mini upset yesterday as I'm feeling so flabby with lack of exercise. Since being on a reduced workout plan from injuries I've actually lost nearly 10lbs over a few months. I had a discussion with my sports massage therapist and she thinks it's down to muscle loss which means eventually I'll get to a point of putting on weight as my basal metabolic rate will reduce with lack of muscle. It's all so depressing. My physio said I show obvious signs of muscle dystrophy. I watched gladiators with dd at the week end (she loves it!) and last time I watched it I felt like I would love to train to be on there and felt strong, now I just feel flabby and unfit.

Sorry, huge downer as I always feel like I'm doing now . In good news step class today. Got average heart rate even if it felt easy because I'm only allowed to have the lowest height on the step. Getting busy soon as dd breaks up for Easter next week and given the only exercise I'm doing is running or swimming (which I can't do with dd around like I can with dvds) I'm not sure when I'll fit it in.

Purpleraindeer · 14/03/2017 21:31

Reastie - the hardest bit of getting back the muscle tone you want is the exercise habit and you've got that. It will come back -you just need to keep on with the rehab. Flowers I know why you're fed up though

Did total synergistics today. Tried to do an unassisted pull up and managed 2! They weren't from straight arms but was pleased. Arms are SORE now tho.
