For C25K graduates who are taking the next step!

W10R1 this morning, 3x15min runs with minute walks in between. I wasn't at all sure I was going to finish but I did, checked MapMyRun & saw I'd done 6.3K.

Hadn't realised I could run that far!

Hope the MRI gives you some answers zippy & you are able to keep running.

Sounds lovely empress, we've been away too but the lack of sleep from camping meant I only did a scrappy 5.5k where as my dH did a mega 20k cross moorland off trail & loved it!

Well done grannycake

I'm nursing very tight hamstring which I picked up last week so took nearly week off running, been swimming instead and hoping it will recover, as I only have 3wks to the Tri and was hoping to get lots more training in.

Zippyzulu · 28/08/2017 21:14

Sounds like a lovely run empress! Good luck with the hamstring Tri, hope it's all ok.

I'm finally starting to feel normal and lurgy free so I'm going to attempt a run tomorrow, fingers crossed. I'll have to take one dc with me to avoid any fighting whilst I'm out so it could be interesting...

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 29/08/2017 06:58

Good luck, Tri & Zippy! Well done grannycake!

20K... we'll get there.

The best part of the run was that I'm not on holiday. I'm still exploring my new bit of London & found all this amazing moorland a short bus ride away GrinGrin.

Boatsnack · 29/08/2017 18:16

Thanks empress your run sounds lovely.

I have switched from Samsung health to map my run and discovered that my usual 5km is only 4.3km so that might explain the pace issues.

grannycake · 30/08/2017 07:01

well done everyone. Only had time for 3.5 k this am and was surprised how dark (and damp) it was at 6.15. I'll need to get used to it as if I don't run first thing it doesn't happen!

TriGirl007 · 01/09/2017 14:46

I was feeling like my running has suffered due to Aug school hols but I've just totalled up my strava times and did hit 60k this month, so although I haven't got that many longer runs in, I have averaged 15k a week which I'm pleased with. I've been googling half marathons in March & April Grin to keep me motivated through the winter!
I like running in the dark granny... well I did last winter but now I'm going further it maybe more of a challenge to find well lit routes. I do prefer the cooler mornings though. My DH went and did 13miles this morning before work in 1hr40mins! He flies along at a pace I would never get too!

SoPassRemarkable · 01/09/2017 14:54

I'm finding the Nike 10km training plan really good.

Ran 6k in 45 mins yesterday.

Think I've got some sort of groin strain/pulled my upper quad. It was hurting before yesterday's run but I ignored it. By the time I got home I could barely walk. Still hurts like hell today.

I'm meant to be running about 5k on Saturday but will see how I feel. Bodypump tonight instead of running!

Zippyzulu · 01/09/2017 15:27

I'm also looking forward to cooler evenings so I can go for a less sweaty run!
I managed 5k last night in around 30 minutes so not as fast as I was doing a month or so ago but I'm working on it- will be going back to parkrun tomorrow morning too.
Off to consultant this afternoon to get verdict on my knee- fingers crossed I don't need to stop running as I know how hard I would find going back to it Sad

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 02/09/2017 15:59

How are you today, SoPass, and what did the consultant say, Zippy?

Nice 10K along the Thames this afternoon, watching the rowers out training. 1hr17 so not the fastest, but still ok for me.

I'm definitely putting my feet up tonight though!

SoPassRemarkable · 02/09/2017 16:14

Well I probably quite sensibly didn't go to pump class yesterday as decided I wouldn't cope with lunge track. Nor did I do my ususal sat morning run today.

Leg is a bit better today, i.e. I can walk without limping. Will do a core conditioning class tomorrow. Next run planned is Monday evening....will see how I feel.

Got a weeks hill walking holiday in a fortnight and don't want to bugger that up!

grannycake · 03/09/2017 08:38

Well done Empress on the 10k and I think SoPass is being very sensible - my DH often overtrains and then pays for it later (never learns!) I failed to motivate myself yesterday which meant I had to go out this morning in pouring rain - serves me right

TriGirl007 · 03/09/2017 18:52

I've been nursing a tight hamstring for two weeks now Sad I went out earlier felt okish but at 2.5k it ceased again grrrrrr so I walked 0.5k then jogged home again. It's SO frustrating my head really wants to run! I am still swimming which is saving my sanity abit, but I'm really missing a good long run.

Zippyzulu · 03/09/2017 19:17

Run along the Thames sounds lovely, very jealous!
It was too hot to run yesterday and I overindulged a little last night so couldn't face a run today either- I'm hoping to do 5-6 k tomorrow night.
However it looks like I will have to pause the running for a while as I have a tear in my meniscus and need to have surgery to repair it. I'd hoped that even if it was that we could focus on physio and it would be ok but my consultant says the tear is so big I have no option other than surgery Sad. I'll find out tomorrow when it will be and will then need at least 8-12 weeks recovery and it will take me a while to get back to fitness after that. Not a great outcome but i suspected I had done some damage due to the pain!

Zippyzulu · 03/09/2017 19:19

Sorry about your hamstring Tri- must be very painful. I think I need to try swimming during my recovery as I'm anxious about losing all the fitness I spent so long building up...

TriGirl007 · 03/09/2017 20:21

Oh that's crap zippy but I hope they can fix it and you can make a good recovery. I've slowly fallen in love with swimming this year, it's been a slow process teaching myself front crawl but I'm finally getting it and it is really good for stamina. I can "switch" off my legs loads in Frontcrawl which is nice and really work my arms using a pull buoy between my legs. I'm also going to dig out the 30 Day Shred DVD as there's some really good toning exercises in that and I can avoid putting too much strain on the hamstring.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 03/09/2017 20:35

FlowersBrewWineCake for Zippy & Tri.

I'm off on holiday for a week & when I come back I WANT to finally get swimming!

The Thames is lovely for runs, Zippy. Apart from anything else it's miles of pedestrian (& bike) space & you can just keep going!

Granny, I've managed to avoid running in the rain so far, so I'm impressed!

Zippyzulu · 03/09/2017 21:19

I quite like running in the rain- it keeps me cool!
I'd love to go for a run along the Thames but we are slightly too far... I sometimes run along the local canal path but it's not as interesting for obvious reasons.
I like swimming but sadly I'm just not very good. I can do breast stroke reasonably ok (it doesn't look pretty) but it hurts my knee and I can never sort out my breathing with front crawl. Bit rubbish really!
I am hoping to do lots of long brisk dog walks, maybe some cycling and build my knee strength up as quickly as possible. I played badminton last week and loved it but it really hurt too so I know I need to sort it now Sad

TriGirl007 · 03/09/2017 21:34

It's taken me lots of practice with a float kicking and breathing to crack FC breathing, plus a pair of googles that finally fit. Plus slowing down the FC loads, keep trying zippy, I never thought I'd "get it" but it suddenly started to click about 5mths ago and now I love trying out FC. The "swim-fit" sessions at our pool are just lane sessions with a swim coach on pool side offering hints n tips.
Hope you have a good hols empress and running in light rain is fab, I did or tried to do that today but heavy rain can get too cold.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 03/09/2017 21:40

Thanks Tri.

I'm always nervous about falling over if I run in the rain but I'll have to try it sometime.

Whereabouts are you, Zippy?

Pinkvici22 · 05/09/2017 07:48

Hi all

I haven't been on this thread for ages! I'm up to about 8km. Not convinced I'll be able to run the whole 10km as it's only a few weeks away.

I'm contemplating looking for a half marathon as something to aim towards? Anyone else?

Boatsnack · 07/09/2017 13:33

I haven't been out much, my sciatica is back with a vengeance. I did w10R3 this morning it was actually quite enjoyable I'm definitely slower than I was before summer but I am managing the killer hills a bit easier. I ran 6.4km in 47mins that includes the walks.
Aiming to do some core work tomo I've started Jillian Michaels 6week 6pack dvd and run again on Saturday before work.

TriGirl007 · 08/09/2017 21:23

Sciatica sucks boat I've had my fair share over the years I hope it calms down for you. I also fished out my Gillian 30-day Shred DVD this week and gave it ago. I found the cardio really easy after the running but shoulders ached the next day from the weights stuff.

I was pleased I got out and did a 5k today without the hamstring niggling too much, which is a relief so I hope tom it still feels ok, as I've SO missed my running buzz n stress relief the last couple of weeks.

TriGirl007 · 08/09/2017 21:24

pink I've started looking at halfs in March next year as a winter training target, poss doing one with my SiL. Bit daunting the thought of doubling my current running distance though!

TriGirl007 · 10/09/2017 18:41

Had a great early 10k this morning was in the zone and relaxed not too hot 12c (still warm but better than last couple months) and my faster time sub 66mins Grin really hope my hamstring behaves after a dodgy month!

TriGirl007 · 13/09/2017 21:54

Quick 5k racked up tonight whilst waiting for DD who was at her club night Smile. Sub 31mins with each split faster so I was pleased with that as I hadn't set out to do that!
