For C25K graduates who are taking the next step!

W10R1 this morning, 3x15min runs with minute walks in between. I wasn't at all sure I was going to finish but I did, checked MapMyRun & saw I'd done 6.3K.

Hadn't realised I could run that far!

You'll have no problem, Ski!

After my foot got better, life got in the way for a while but yesterday I went for my first run in about 5 weeks. Just 2K, I need to work back up. But it felt wonderful!

SkiBike007 · 19/07/2017 17:16

Glad you running again empress hope the foot holds up ok.

I did 8k yesterday but at 24c it was too hot for me I started to get heat stroke symptoms on last 0.5k and had to stick my head under the cold tap when I got home! I'm going to do a 5k Friday before the race for life on Sunday. I'm hoping this humid weather passes as it's SO tiring.

shortaris1 · 19/07/2017 20:22

Hellish isn't it Ski

Hope your foot holds up Empress

I did my fastest ever 5k tonight. 35:01. Delighted!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 20/07/2017 08:14

Good luck for Sunday, Ski. Great, Short!

Foot's completely better, thanks Grin but work is manic at the moment & I've just moved house to the other side of London, so it took a while to get round to digging my running stuff out. Great way to explore the area though.

SkiBike007 · 20/07/2017 21:20

Thanks hope the new place has gd running routes empress.
Great time shortaris let's hope these storms clear the air abit as I'd like to run Friday.

I've just sighed upto my next challenge ...a beginners Triathlon in 8wks time! Grin with my DD doing the juniors one. It's short distances which I know I can do but it will be putting it all together will be a challenge!! My DD doesn't "run" so it will encourage her but the kids one is only a 1.5k run at the end so she will find swim really easy, the cycle ok I think and the run the hardest but she's a "trier!"

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 22/07/2017 11:30

Green spaces everywhere! I've just done my first 5k in ages round a nature reserve & now I'm off home for a lazy afternoon.

Triathlon - that's really impressive Ski! Let us know how tomorrow goes.

SkiBike007 · 23/07/2017 11:52

I DID IT!!! Grin thanks for all the lovely support on here. Had a great time at my first ever race for life 10k this morning - my Strava made it 9.7k though Grin and I sprinted home in 64mins - my DH & DDs were great support even if I did go off too fast!! My DH was ur oh she's done the first km in 5mins but I did pace myself and was fine as run went on. What was lovely was both my DDs want to do it with my next year but I'm not sure the nearly 6yr old knows quite what it entails Grin

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 23/07/2017 14:54

CONGRATULATIONS SKI!!!!!!!!!!

shortaris1 · 23/07/2017 20:45

Well done Ski delighted for you and AMAZING time!

SkiBike007 · 23/07/2017 22:00

Thanks Grin I think not running in the 5d prior to it and the large cup of caffeine T pre-race speeded me round Grin now it's Tri training...what have I let myself in for!!
Best bit my 10yr DD went out and ran 2k with DH tonight and he took up the hill first and she didn't stop or moan once, came back with grin on her face. She's "sporty" but never done any running more than 200m before.

shortaris1 · 26/07/2017 20:35

That's ace Ski What does your tri training involve?

SkiBike007 · 26/07/2017 21:05

I did a 40min swim Monday night, a cycle ride tues only 7m as I was squeezing it into my lunch break but I was surprised how much my running and swimming fitness had me cruising up a couple hills on my bike. Today I'm washed out fighting off the cold my DH has Sad I had hoped to cycle to work tom but instead I fell asleep at 7pm for half hr! I'm just trying to run twice a week, swim twice a week and get a cycle in 1-2 a week. The distances aren't long as it's a Go-Tri it's just about experiencing it all (I hope!) my DD is doing the kids one with meSmile

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 29/07/2017 11:35

How's your cold, Ski?

Lovely 10K this morning along canals & through parks.

I thought I was taking it gently (stopping to admire views & stuff) but my time was 1:10:14 so that's a PB! Maybe I was jeffing Grin. Whatever, it's good to know I can still do it!

shortaris1 · 30/07/2017 20:15

Well done Empress. I got a 10k PB today running with a pal. Delighted!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 30/07/2017 21:37

Thanks shortaris, well done to you too!

SkiBike007 · 03/08/2017 12:57

I'm MIA on hols with no real places to run that aren't wet n muddy or hilly off road Shock arrhh! I did get a swim in Smile hoping by the time we get home at the wend I can get a good 10k in again
Well doneempress on great run and shortaris

MumBod · 05/08/2017 09:04

Hello again, all.

I have my first 10k race tomorrow - not that I'll be racing as such! Just getting round is the aim.

I had a really bad run-up to it, having a month with no running at all up to this week. However, I went out on Tuesday and did 5k, and managed 10k on Friday, so hopefully I should be able to run the course on Sunday.

Anyone got any tips for me? Any mantras I can say in my head as I plod round? I've been sponsored quite a lot of money by family and friends for a local hospice, so I want to do them proud.

I'm so nervous Confused

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 05/08/2017 15:01

Good luck, MumBod!

ALL THAT MATTERS is that you get round. If you walk some bits, that's fine, you're still getting round.

If you haven't put your name on your top, do. People will shout it & it's a real boost.

If it looks like it's going to be hot & you're wearing cycling-style shorts, use Vaseline or a roll-on deodorant on the ends of the legs to stop chafing. I'd never had a problem with that before but it started towards the end of my race, and it hurt.

Those are the main things I can think of. Let us know how it goes!

MumBod · 05/08/2017 15:09

Thanks, Empress. I've started to get really nervous now - I don't want to let anyone down, least of all myself.

I have just signed up for a 10 mile in October, though, as I don't want to do what I usually do and give up once I've reached a goal. I might regret that, depending on how tomorrow goes...

Thanks for the vaseline tip. I never thought of that.

Gulp.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 05/08/2017 17:16

Before I did my 10K the organisers sent round lots of advice, including to imagine WORST case scenarios. Along the lines of being chased by a swarm of hornets, falling in a puddle & losing your shorts.

The reasoning being that if you're ready for that you're ready for anything Grin.

All you have to do for the hospice is get across the finish line.

MumBod · 05/08/2017 18:37

I've already had my first disaster. I've lost my bloomin' race number.

Ffs.

SkiBike007 · 05/08/2017 21:18

Good luck mumbod enjoy the run and smile - I did my first 10K race for life two weeks ago and made a point of smiling at all the volunteer marshals on the course and it really helped me keep a positive smiley frame of mind. It was hot and I set off too fast but I really enjoyed it. Have fun, you know you can do it even if you do have to walk a couple of bits Smile

MumBod · 05/08/2017 21:21

Thanks, Ski - I'm really excited but also a bag of nerves Smile

SkiBike007 · 05/08/2017 21:26

I was too! Grin I had a cup of caffeine tea (I normally drink De-caf!) half hr before so was wired Grinthen had to get back in the loo queue just before we started!

MumBod · 05/08/2017 21:29

Oh god, loos. I'm due to start my period tomorrow, wouldn't you know it.

Could do with some advice - I'm not sure whether it's a good idea to wear my Fitbit to track my progress. I've got a feeling it might make it harder psychologically-speaking, as I'm liable to be checking it every ten seconds to see how far I've got to go.

What do you think?
