I've been visiting family, and have had the chance to run hills (pretty flat where I am). And did one run just shy of 10k (in 63mins, and this is good for me).

If someone had told me this time last year that this is what I'd be doing, I'd have laughed. My New Year's Resolution will be to keep it up.

PS: I am amazed at BlackCat for running only a month after childbirth. It took me about 150 months!

emummy · 29/12/2016 10:34

Steady hill running up & down 3 big hills. Still feeling hard in the aftermath of the cold but getting better.

Wishing you a speedy recovery emummy!

Has anyone got any good sprint/interval sessions, that aren't so awful I will be able do them alone. We do some hideous ones at my club but I'm not sure I can face them alone!

emummy · 29/12/2016 17:07

A pyramid? One min hard, one easy, then 2 mins, then 3 & 4 then work back down again. Recent training plan for me had 5 x 5 minutes hard with 2 min recovery.
One I like is 30sec jog, 20 sec hard, 10 sec flat out sprint, repeat 5 times, then 1 min rest, usually repeated about 3 times altogether. Need to keep a close eye on the watch though!

KeyserSophie · 30/12/2016 03:54

lastqueen I can't do intervals that are worth doing on my own. I just cant force myself to go hard enough without a pacing pack. If you're doing one club session per week that should be enough if you throw a hill session in somewhere.

sirzy It was. It was fun but I wish I'd stuck to my guns and insisted on 3 separate houses (i.e. one per family) as I think it would have been more relaxing.

Did my standard 10.6k trail circuit this morning, powered by huge amounts of chocolate and cheese. Must. Stop. Eating.

I feel like a deserve a medal for lugging myself around a slow 3.5 miles. Haven't been out for nearly two weeks and might as well have been two years!

KeyserSophie · 31/12/2016 11:05

well done stilllearnin. First one for a while is always tough.

10.8km to complete the year. Ran with a friend so nothing speedy, but beautiful clear day and enjoyed it.

My Strava stats for 2016: 1844km and 61,000m of vertical (roughly 7 x Mt Everest from sea level). A bit annoyed I didnt make my 2000km goal but too many ankle sprains and too lazy over the summer.

Wishing everyone a happy and successful 2017!

emummy · 31/12/2016 16:12

Well done keyser, pretty good totals. You perhaps have a different definition of lazy!
Have just totalled mine, 1738km and 28,719m of ascent, feeling quite pleased with that. Really looking forward to getting out for a New Year run tomorrow, may be it will be cold enough for my new compression tights!
Good luck to all in 2017.

MyBlackCat · 31/12/2016 17:41

Parkrun this morning and a short run from Thursday, did my last parkrun mile in 8:42 - I can still run!! Still along way to go to return to full fitness but I'm on the way Grin

5k to start the new year

3.1 happy new year everyone

emummy · 01/01/2017 11:16

Happy new year all! Had to change planned route for this morning's run thanks to black ice everywhere, so skated down to the riverside to run there. Was a beautiful morning on the way out, then the sleet started with 3 miles to go. Ended up soaked & frozen! Much better now after long hot shower.

KeyserSophie · 01/01/2017 13:31

OMG Anglaise. That's the stuff of legends. Not sure even my UTMB slaying friend has clocked that sort of mileage.

Started the year with a quick 8.5k. As it's new years day and also as I needed to end up at M&S to restock, I let myself do a "net downhill" route on the road. Lots of NYR runners (identifiable by 100% brand new kit and hunted look) looking very pained, or possibly just hungover.

cinnamongreyhound · 01/01/2017 16:04

I did 1014 miles in 2016, still nothing like you guys and I have no idea on ascent pretty sure it's low as I live in east anglia!!!!!

Two parkrun's to add from today 22.5

5k of ice skating this morning! Very slow because I was trying to stay upright

28.9

cinnamongreyhound · 02/01/2017 17:03

I ran with the canicross group Sirzy and the ground was very hard but too bumpy to be slippery. In the very wooded parts it was still unfrozen though which was quite impressive! 32.9

stilllearnin · 02/01/2017 18:25

Happy new year to you all...

7.16 to add and eventhough I left it til 10am, I too had to slow right down on the slippy bits - but really enjoyable. Has left me happy that the HM in Feb is well doable (if it did not start at 8.30am and I was not terrified of slipping over!!!).

KeyserSophie · 02/01/2017 23:33

V impressed with all the running in slippery and freezing conditions. Changeable here (we normally get quite a nice Jan and a completely miserable, relentlessly soggy Feb- Apr) so was 23 yesterday.

Went out to deliberately do some segment slaying on Strava- managed to get a PR on a few which was nice, including a technical trail concur which I usually feel I'm really lumbering over but which felt quite ninja-like yesterday. 13k in all.

(Still in denial about Tokyo marathon)
