I started a new thread. Can't link as on phone and have a heat pad on my knee while awaiting my physio apt.

And on your marks.....

I run mainly in my hallway, on the spot, barefoot, with the occasional outside 'test' to check I can do it in real life.

Seems to work for me, though I'm only just done Week3 Run3. Not sure if I can take the boredom of week4 running on the spot for 5mins but I probably can.

stripeyzebra321 · 08/06/2016 10:21

In theory starlight that works the same as a treadmill. Can you get a iPad or use a tv for a music channel or something to take your mind away from it?

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 08/06/2016 10:21

I started week 8 a couple of weeks ago, only did one run that week as my ankles started to hurt.

Then last week I went on holiday so no running done.

Didn't go for a run on Monday like I said I would, so finally pushed myself out of the door today. God it was hard. I don't know how long I ran for as I accidentally turned the app off trying to shuffle my music and I had to walk part way as I struggled to keep going.

Why didn't I get back to it sooner? I'm so annoyed with myself. I was doing really well.

StarlightMcKenzee · 08/06/2016 10:35

Stripey I'm doing the NHS podcasts so I have a bit of music. If my mind can wander I'm usually alright but the first one or two runs I'm usually thinking way too much about the run. By the end bit I'm usually switched into thinking about something/day dreaming.

Also, I like the home version because for the walks I just go from room to room tidying things away. I feel after half an hour that I've exercised and have a tidier house - :-)

stripeyzebra321 · 08/06/2016 11:14

I'm doing that one too. I did finish it at one stage but I need her to keep me going as silly as it sounds.

We're all off our bums doing something and that's all that matters!

BitOutOfPractice · 08/06/2016 11:21

Running on the spot is nothing like running on a treadmill or outside. Be very careful Starlight - do some googling because you are really risking your knees and ankles like that

stripeyzebra321 · 08/06/2016 13:51

I think bare feet may be a bit of a issue. Have you got some running trainers? I used to have a private trainer and she used to insist on trainers on in the house when doing it.

Week 5 run 1 complete for the second day. I will go onto day 2 tomorrow. Struggled more today as its quite hot with no breeze.

I got straight on my wonder core machine and did 5mins arms 5mins sit ups and on the mat 5mins bums then a nice cool down routine I found on YouTube to have a lovely stretch.

StarlightMcKenzee · 08/06/2016 13:57

Thank you Bit. Normal advice for anything health wise tends to not apply to me, ever, and running on the spot (or at least along my short hallway) seems to have a way less jarring effect and feel more comfortable for the moment.

Truth is I'm never gonna do 30mins like that though so will have to progress to going outside, but I've never found a pair of trainers that don't chafe the back of my leg so prefer barefoot. I'm seriously hunting again though, but the more 'specialist' you go the more long and narrow and rich they assume you are. (I'm short and fat and poor)

stripeyzebra321 · 08/06/2016 14:03

I get the rubbing but after purchasing proper running socks the short trainer style I just pull them up a bit as both my sets Amazon & karrimor sports direct are quite thick on the lip so stop the rubbing.

BitOutOfPractice · 08/06/2016 14:46

Hi Starlight - have you tried Decathlon - they will help you find a show to suit your foot / gait and they are not TOO extortionate. You could offset it against wear and tear to your carpet Wink

StrawberriCream · 10/06/2016 15:32

Done w5 r1 again today but my phone crashed part way through! Get. Feeling a bit lethargic this afternoon now like my energy has been sapped

stripeyzebra321 · 11/06/2016 10:39

This week I've done W5 R 1 twice 3x 5min runs) got on pretty well with that. And R 2 twice 2 X 8min runs. The first time I did really well yesterday really struggled I'm surprised I made it through.

Today I was planning on the horrible 20 min run. But I've just looked and I'm going to skip that for now and do the 2x 10 with 3 mins in between and then go back to the 20.

I found when I originally did the app once I did and completed the 20 I skipped the ones with breaks. It gave me the confidence I needed and was then adding 5 mins per day until I got upto 45.

My daughter is starting the c25k app today as we have a mile run booked next month. She has proper footwear. She's a fast runner but she needs to build up her stamina for the distance so I really think the app will do wonders for her.

A lot of the events I have found have a min age limit of 12 on the 4/5 k's but I managed to find a super local one that lets children of all ages run free alongside there parents to try and get the kids active and interested. We will let her decide her pace and what she wants to do but I'm hoping we have found something we can all do as a family.

BitOutOfPractice · 11/06/2016 10:58

That sounds great Stripey.

I was running 10k just 18 months ago. Now 3 minutes feels insurmountable Sad

stripeyzebra321 · 11/06/2016 11:10

Bit - it's so hard isn't it? I vowed once I got to that level I felt happy with I would keep going with it. I didn't and it's so much harder the second time!

10k would be a utter dream for me but I just don't think I can ever go that far. I would love to do one next year but I need to drop this weight first. My small but tubby dog weighs approx just under a stone and he's a lump so I imagine me running with him under my arm and think well if I get 2 of him off it may be possible. But not doing 15min miles.

BitOutOfPractice · 11/06/2016 16:34

Hello stripey

Yes I am also considerably heavier now as well. That can't be helping me.

I have done W3D3 3 times now. It was a teeny tiny bit easier this time so maybe I'll make s breakthrough soon

BitOutOfPractice · 15/06/2016 09:40

Yay! I've made into week 4 and it was ok! Hurrah. Slowed it down a bit and felt like I could've carried on. So relieved to have actually had a breakthrough

StrawberriCream · 15/06/2016 18:40

Did week 5 run 2 today - it went okay but will repeat before moving on - I'm thinking of doing w6r1+2 before attempting to tackle w5 r3 - a 20min run seems a little daunting when I can just manage 8mins atm. What does anyone think??

Rinceoir · 18/06/2016 10:25

Hello all, I was on this thread a while ago and got to the end when I was injured. I've had 6 weeks of rest and physio and was cleared to start back running again this week. I did week 2 on Tuesday and found it easy enough, so did week 3 Thursday and the week 4 today. Week 4 was challenging so I'm going to take it as my new starting point!

RamsayBoltonsConscience · 18/06/2016 14:53

I'm nearly done! I finished week 8 yesterday. I've never achieved a goal like this in terms of exercise before Grin. It's has taken a year due to injury but when I started I couldn't run for minute and cried because it was so hard- who'd have thunk it?

StrawberriCream · 18/06/2016 19:16

I'm doing week6 r1 Monday again - I'm starting to find I'm looking forward to running which I definitely didn't expect!!!

Rinceoir · 19/06/2016 20:37

Well done to you all, it's such a great programme. I did week 4 run 2 today as I won't get out again til midweek. It was fine and no sign of injury flaring up which is reassuring. It was such a setback to get to week 8 and then get injured- I was doing 30day shred as well and think it was mainly overuse. So I'm going back in with running only this time, may add a Pilates class to help with my core strength. I'm 2 stone lighter than I was starting the programme in February which I think definitely helped.

stripeyzebra321 · 20/06/2016 08:19

Well done everyone for doing so well.

I did 5 days week before last then next week nothing.

Gym kit on this morning and am hoping to do the 2 X 10min runs. I did skip the full 20 this time round but I'm hoping to complete that by the end of this week.

comeagainforbigfudge · 21/06/2016 20:09

Right. Ive started c25k from the beginning (with some work friends). Ive yet to run 5k continuously so might as well.

W1R1 done, after nearly 3 weeks of no running, a week all inclusive, a horrible cold thats still not shifted properly and a ridiculously hard day with baby that resulted in eating chocolate, i'm impressed with myself that i managed to even run all the 60secs each time Grin

StrawberriCream · 24/06/2016 14:57

W6r1 done again today, think I will do it one more time before moving on

RamsayBoltonsConscience · 24/06/2016 18:27

I've done it! Week 9, run 3 completed this morning 5.27k (including the warm up and cool down). Woo Hoo!
