I started a new thread. Can't link as on phone and have a heat pad on my knee while awaiting my physio apt.

And on your marks.....

Just wanted to share. I did the week 5 20 min run at parkrun this morning and ran for around 23 mins before I stopped. Ran a bit more a few minutes later before walking the rest. I am astonished with myself. I don't understand how I've reached this point. C25K must be magic or something

fairyqueen · 25/06/2016 11:32

I think I meant week 6. Not 5!

BitOutOfPractice · 25/06/2016 14:36

Yay! Lots of progress!

I did W4D2 today and it was ok!

StrawberriCream · 29/06/2016 20:05

W6r1 done again and I'm going to do run 2 on Thursday, will probably do that a couple times before moving on to the 20 min run!!

StrawberriCream · 08/07/2016 11:53

Ran for 10 mins without stopping today :) next run is supposed to be the 20min constant run I'm hoping to do most of it and just build up bit by bit each run now :)

The deadline for my first park run is approaching (30th july) and I haven't managed to get to week 7 yet. I'm resigned to that fact I won't be able to run the whole thing, but any tips for me? Should I run a bit walk a bit or run as much as I can then walk the rest? Currently I can run for a out 22 minutes and cover about 2 miles :-(

I did a park run on Saturday and the heat was just horrible. I'm not very fast and ended up in the middle of the pack which made me run too fast and then I was knackered! I also ran up the first hill which did me in and then I pretty much walked the rest of it. I did it in 45 mins and was about 10 from the back. (I have completed the couch to 5k!)
My advice would be to position yourself at the back, take your time and be resigned to having to walk some of it. If yours is as hilly as mine, walk up the hills and run the rest. Do you know what the route is like? Go and familiarise yourself with it first if you can. I've gone back to the c25k app as this experience really knocked my confidence, I'm working up from week 7 again and I'm going to go and do a lap of the route on my own once I start the summer holidays so I know how well I will cope with it under normal circumstances. When it's hot, I'm not going!

I think I'm on W5 but I've been combining it with a running book and I can only go 2x a week so it's taken longer
I struggled to slow jog for 30sec at the start
I'm currently doing a 9min jog, 4min walk then 8min jog
According to C25K I should now be able to jump to 20min but I'm dead on my feet at the end of the 9min
I can't imagine getting to 20min
Any advice or tips we welcome as am losing heart

Thanks for the advice ramsey. I did 5k yesterday (I kept walking at the end of the c25k app) in 42 mins so we'd be in about the same place.

whore of babylon I'd just say to give it a go. My app when from 10 min run to 20 and I thought there was no chance. I just gritted my teeth and went for it. It took me a couple of tryst but I did it. Think about how far you've come, you can definitely do this next bit.

StrawberriCream · 16/07/2016 21:25

I'm upping it by a miniute running every time to get from 10mins constant running to 20 :)

StrawberriCream · 25/07/2016 19:56

Waiting for my boyfriend to get in. Hoping for a successful 20min run tonight

GotABitTricky · 25/07/2016 22:12

For a first ParkRun ever, is doing sub 1 hour a pathetic aim ??

Can only run 30 seconds at a time then walk. Am I gonna stick out like a sore thumb and come in last?

StrawberriCream · 26/07/2016 21:07

Have you download the couch to 5k app?? I've never done a parkrun as I'm still aiming for 20mins constant running. At the start of the plan I really struggled to run for 60 seconds at a time but I just kept repeating days and not giving up. I enjoy the challenge now

UpWithPup · 28/07/2016 10:45

GotA if you Google your local park run you'll be able to see last week's results. For my local, the slowest seems to be about 50 minutes but yours might be different.

Damson9 · 28/07/2016 12:00

We'll be doing W4D3 this evening. I know that to many five minutes of running at a time will be not much to write home about, but considering how much I struggled to do just a minute on the first week, I am incredibly happy.

I am genuinely astounded at my progress. My husband and I started doing the C25K with the eventual goal of doing our local parkrun in under 30 minutes (his idea). It seemed folly at first, but I'm beginning to think that it might actually be possible, as we are improving every outing. We are extending our route a little this evening to give us a bit more rope, and that should bring us up to about 5K.

Having been anti-exercise for so long, I'm also surprised at how much I'm enjoying it. Granted, it has been challenging but, when I don't feel like I'm dying, I'm actually having a pretty good time. We do all our runs in our local country park now, and it's just so lovely to be out there! (*disclaimer - it hasn't rained on us once yet. Opinion may be changed with the advent of bad weather.)

I was on this thread at the beginning but thought I would report back...

I started C25k in January, huffed and puffed during the W1, claimed that I would never be able to run for more than 3mins and finally completed it with a few stops and starts. I should add that I am middle-aged and carrying a couple of extra stone so not an Olympic athlete by any stretch of the imagination.

Today I managed to plod 12km. It was very slow, very hot and had rather more walking bits than I would have wanted but if you had told me back in January that I could keep going for 7.5miles I would have laughed hysterically.

I am hoping to plod a half marathon in October - no time pressure, I just want to complete it.

So for all of you MNetters who are doing C25k I just wanted to say to keep going with it. I've had weeks that I just didn't feel like it but (and had several weeks where I did nothing at all) but the programme does work.
