I started a new thread. Can't link as on phone and have a heat pad on my knee while awaiting my physio apt.

And on your marks.....

Morning all. Was due to run yesterday but it was literally tipping it down all day. I don't mind getting wet, but I'm worried about slipping over (poor you dont).
A large section of my run is along the side of a field on a mud track, the surface is rutted and uneven when dry but will be too slippery when wet I think (or am I just making excuses?).

Anyway, I did a Shred instead. I must be fitter, I barely broke a sweat! Smile.

No opportunity to run today, but fingers crossed for tomorrow.
Does everyone else run in the rain? Is so, what do you wear?

comeagainforbigfudge · 01/06/2016 13:57

Hello hello. Ive not posted on ages. Because i havent ran in ages. Was starting to panic a bit as im "running" a 10k at weekend. Was thinking if forget how. But managed to run 22mins. Only covered 2.5km but i figure thats me a quarter of the way there Grin

I plan to walk/jog the whole way. But might jog for as long as i can in the first instance. Hmmmm need to think about my plan of attack a bit more Smile

Going on holiday next week but once im back im going to start from the beginning again with some work colleagues. Im so slow that im sure i will benefit from doing it again

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 01/06/2016 15:57

Down with a horrible chesty cough and cold Sad
No runs this week

SkodaLabia · 01/06/2016 16:06

comeagain, you mean there's a difference for you between running and jogging? Shock If both my feet are leaving the floor I'm running.

comeagainforbigfudge · 01/06/2016 16:52

Grin true true skoda

In my head though, "running" equates with those svelte sleek runners who make it look effortless. 😂

SkodaLabia · 01/06/2016 17:01

Oh yes, I know the sort, the bounding gazelle types. I'm more like a slo mo version of the rhinos from Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Like every stride is lifting the weight of a bungalow.

Ha ha ladies, found this and thought of us:

What we think we look like vs what we actually look like!

Trotted and oinked my way to the end of W8!! Holy fuck, next week is the last week!

StarlightMcKenzee · 03/06/2016 14:16

Hi all,

I just read the WHOLE thread and you lot seem very lovely. I need a LOT of support I think so I hope you can bear to have me and my neediness.

I've just done week 3 run 1 today and am hoping that there will be a day when I'm more proud of myself than horrified at the misery of it all.

Is there a particular week that that kind of thing happens?

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 03/06/2016 15:39

Virus finally starting to improve
Really missed my runs
Hopefully back on action next week

NattyGolfJerkin · 03/06/2016 16:50

Hi all. Long time, no see. Still running. Up to 8k now (40 mins). Doing well and mostly enjoying it (despite the odd off day). I definitely miss it when I'm not running though and get the old twitchy legs urge to put my trainers on.

0ellenbrody0 · 03/06/2016 19:53

natty that's super impressive! Your app is a to 10k isn't it? I stopped at wk 9 and have just worked up to 5k.
I would love to do more, but it's so time consuming, I'm not sure I can do more than 45 mins in total during the week (including warm up and cool down) although I suppose I could try and do a bit longer at the weekend.

I'm off to do my first Parkrun tomorrow, I'm a bit scared actually!

Welcome starlight! I would say I started to 'enjoy' it (loosest sense of the word) when I did my first 8 min run, I think that's when I thought 'I can do this'.

NattyGolfJerkin · 04/06/2016 05:58

Yes, I'm doing the fitness22 10k app. Mate and I don't always have time to do a full run on weekdays as I work shifts (hcp) and she works 9-5 but we always go out and fit something in, even if it is 'just' 25 mins. Sometimes at stupid o'clock. It's amazing to be saying that now! 25 mins felt like climbing Everest just a few weeks ago Grin

StarlightMcKenzee · 04/06/2016 10:09

Thank you ellen, I'll keep going with hope then. So far I'be just thought why would I ever want to extend 3mins of misery to 8 mins of misery,, lol

comeagainforbigfudge · 05/06/2016 19:55

Well i managed my 10k. It was very very warm so was an even slower plod with lots of walking. Think i probably did half n half walk/jogging. Took me 1.5hrs but im well chuffed with myself!

Off on my holidays tomorrow. When im back i think ill restart c25k build up speed/endurance but also do one "long run" per week

SkodaLabia · 06/06/2016 14:55

Bravo bigfudge!

Team Skoda are in W9 this week, so I'll be looking for another app! I honestly can't believe we've made it to this point. I'm just astonished that I love running and that I've actually been able to do it. If I could just get the hang of not eating vast amounts of unhealthy foods it could rather change my life. Grin

0ellenbrody0 · 06/06/2016 22:28

That's fantastic comeagain massive round of applause!

skoda great job, it's amazing isn't it? Suddenly we all realise we can do it (and rather enjoy it). I havnt lost any weight or changed shape, I just hope it's doing me good that I can't see.

BitOutOfPractice · 06/06/2016 23:29

Hello. Well done everyone. You're all doing so well! (Meant genuinely not patronisingly!)

I've done W3D3 today. I think I'll do it another couple of times until I don't feel like I'm going to die! Can't believe how unfit and heavy I've got Sad

StarlightMcKenzee · 07/06/2016 00:07

I'm on Week 3 too. NOT happy with NHS Emma saying she feels good after pushing through a hard run. I don't and it makes me feel rotten because the smug bitch implies I should.

StarlightMcKenzee · 07/06/2016 00:08

Then I let it run onto week 4 by accident and it all went on about it being a tough week now.

NOW???!!!!! I think there needs to be stages in between the weeks tbh. The jumps are way too big.

BitOutOfPractice · 07/06/2016 04:18

Who is NHS Emma?

StrawberriCream · 07/06/2016 12:37

Just done my w4 d3 run it felt okay despite not having run to ten days!! Now sure how w5 is going to go but I'm pretty happy with my progress.

StarlightMcKenzee · 07/06/2016 15:56

Well done *Strawberry(

NHS Emma is the woman on the NHS C25K podcasts.

She was alright until week 3 (apart from peeing me off after the first run by saying at the end that it would be a good idea to have a banana which I thought really should have been said at the beginning so that you know to shop for said banana before you run).

BitOutOfPractice · 07/06/2016 16:08

She sounds like an annoying pain in the arse Grin

Well done indeed Strawberri!

stripeyzebra321 · 08/06/2016 09:29

Right, after saying last week I would get back to it and it didn't happen I am doing it this week!

I couldn't face starting from the beginning again after 2 months off so I started on week 5 so it's a bit of a challenge. I'm on a very low carb diet so I need to go a bit steady but I need a push and the motivation so looking at entering a 5k in September. It's enough time away to be realistic (I hope) and to keep it up.

I entered a event in March and hated it but as I left it quite late to train I felt I wasn't ready. I swore I would never do another but for me without the event looming I have showed no motivation to do it.

For me it's a mind over matter thing, I hate the thought of it but once it's done I think, well that wasn't so bad.

I'm quite late to this thread, how do all of you go about your training road park treadmill? And how often do you all get out and do it?
