We must have been looking near to expiring on our run the other day as two separate people told us to keep going. Smile I'm expecting cheering in the streets and one of those tables with water bottles on it when we get to week 9. Grin

BitOutOfPractice · 18/05/2016 13:04

Hello

Can I join in? I have run for a number of years and done plenty of 10Ks. However I have, for reasons personal, physical etc, not run for nearly a year and I have piled on the weight. So I've decided to start right at the beginning at C25k week 1.

Be gentle with me!

SkodaLabia · 18/05/2016 13:58

Well, up to this point I've only done 10k in a car, so you're an infinitely more experienced runner than me!

NattyGolfJerkin · 18/05/2016 14:46

hiya bit Smile. When are you starting?

BitOutOfPractice · 18/05/2016 14:52

Hello. Thanks for the welcome

I've already started - done Wk1 day 1&2. Will do 3 tonight at the gym. I tend to run on the treadmill to save my poor ancient knees

NattyGolfJerkin · 18/05/2016 15:01

Woohoo, well under way then, bit.

There's another treadmill benefit, until, lower impact on the joints!

BitOutOfPractice · 18/05/2016 15:10

I'm a bit of a fair weather runner I'm afraid. Don't like cold and wet plus I use some other equipment and go in the spa while I'm there. My BF swims while I run then we meet in the jacuzzi

I'm trying to lose weight and get fit as I'm approaching 50 and fatter and slobbier than I've ever been. I stopped drinking the week before last, Started running last weekend. And started tracking calories yesterday.

NattyGolfJerkin · 18/05/2016 15:30

Ahh, I'm the opposite to you. I like running in the cold/rain. I overheat v quickly and so the iffy weather is refreshing Grin.

BitOutOfPractice · 18/05/2016 15:59

I was always told that there's more oxyden in the air when it's raining -don't know if that's true

0ellenbrody0 · 18/05/2016 20:12

I feel a bit twitchy - I havnt run since Sunday. That's the longest break I've had. I'm going to go out tomorrow, but I'm worried I will struggle.
I need to get my distance up so I'm ready for the Race For Life.

I like running outside too. My route is over fields and down a country lane. It's so peaceful so I don't even listen to music, I just keep an eye on the time display on my phone on my arm thingy.
I would love a treadmill though. It would mean that in tricky weeks like this, when DH is working late and th kids need running around, I would be able to run later in the evening without worrying about it being too dark. My route is a bit isolated for me to feel happy about going too late.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 18/05/2016 20:51

Begininng to get the "addictive" thing.
Gorgeous evening but i should give my knees a rest
And my kit is in the wash Grin

BitOutOfPractice · 18/05/2016 22:14

Back from the gym. Wk 1 day 3 done. It seemed hard. I can't believe I was running 10k 18 months ago

SkodaLabia · 19/05/2016 08:23

Oh dear, Practice, that must be discouraging. At least if you've done it before you can do it again. I wonder if after a couple of weeks you'll build fitness more quickly because until relatively recently you've been very fit. Maybe your body will remember.

StrawberriCream · 19/05/2016 10:09

W3 r3 done and I'm feeling good :) managed all the runs and got to 4k :))

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 19/05/2016 10:12

I braved a run outside today.
I'm on W7R3 but only run on the treadmill so far.

After less than a minute I was really out of puff and struggling. I got really disheartened but told myself off and carried on as well as I could.

I was really slow but I finished it.

Must run outside more from now on.

NattyGolfJerkin · 19/05/2016 10:26

Well done you, until Star

And strawberri, 4K is fab! You must have been going at some speed on your running intervals?

Bit, it is frustrating, I felt similarly. Like you, I was running a comfortable treadmill 10k 4x a week until last Oct. It's amazing how quickly you lose fitness. You soon regain it though, keep the faith.

NattyGolfJerkin · 19/05/2016 10:34

Me and mate are going to attempt our final run of the 5k section of our plan (we are doing the fitness22 0-10k plan), which is w8r3 and is 5w 35r 5w.

We did quite a hilly run on Tues and I can feel it in my bum today (which incidentally is looking much more pert these days - bonus!). I was a bit stiff yesterday and so did a 'runners yoga' routine from YouTube to stretch things out a bit. Seemed to help.

Is anyone else noticing body shape changes? Like I say, on the plus side, my bum is looking good but my midsection has a way to go. That said, my core has always been my nemesis. I've got a powerhoop and a rowing machine, I might look at doing some cross training with them for my core.

StrawberriCream · 19/05/2016 12:37

I don't feel particularly fast when I run at all!!!

BitOutOfPractice · 19/05/2016 13:00

Thanks for the encouragement lovely people

For those of you that use a treadmill, what speed is your run and walk sections?

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 19/05/2016 15:25

For those of you that use a treadmill, what speed is your run and walk sections?

I walk at 5.7 run waddle at 6.6/6.7

SkodaLabia · 19/05/2016 16:50

I'm getting thinner in my middle but still eating really badly, so I need to sort that and capitalise on all this exercise.

Has anyone learned to hula hoop? I've never been able to do it but isn't it really good for your core?

NattyGolfJerkin · 19/05/2016 19:09

My diet isn't too bad, a few tweaks wouldn't do any harm but overall, it's fine.

I have and use a power hoop (big, chunky, weighted hula hoop). It is much harder to use than the kids' plastic ones and bruises your waist the first few times you use it! You are supposed to build up minute by minute over a period of weeks, making sure you go clockwise & anti-clockwise so you work both sides of your obliques.

NattyGolfJerkin · 19/05/2016 19:10

When I used the treadmill I walked at 5.5 kph and ran at anywhere between 8 - 9 kph.

NattyGolfJerkin · 19/05/2016 19:11

(I'm slower on the road!)

SkodaLabia · 19/05/2016 19:22

How easy is it to get the hang of power-hooping, Natty? I've just never got to grips with using a hula hoop, even though I have good co-ordination in other respects.
