I started a new thread. Can't link as on phone and have a heat pad on my knee while awaiting my physio apt.

And on your marks.....

Can I join? Only done week 1 so far (although twice, with a gap!)... W2r1 tomorrow, all being well! Must look into park runs - are they all 5k? Good to have something to aim for.

Freshsteps · 21/03/2016 21:39

So inspiring to read all the park run/ 5k achievements! Can't believe it might be me!
Off to get new trainers tomorrow, I think my current pair ( v wide soles) are making me run in a knock kneed fashion and causing knee twinges. W2r2 yesterday, really enjoyed it.

So, do we count other activities (eg tennis)as rest days? And long dog walks? I'm finding it Hard to fit 3 runs in if I don't.

cherrytree63 · 21/03/2016 22:22

Freshsteps they're very active rest days for me! I walk my dogs and ride my horse, and twice a week I do some weight reps (I have very flabby upper arms)! Increasing your core strength makes us stronger runners!

Rinceoir · 21/03/2016 23:21

I aim for 11k steps a day regardless of if I run or not. I usually manage that easily on a work day, at weekends my steps vary massively! I think I'm going to take up Pilates as my core muscles have been very very weak since DD was born. I'm planning to get new runners next week- does anyone have recommendations for where to be fitted? I have small, narrow over pronated feet, and an old knee injury that's prone to flaring up so I need good running shoes. I've been wearing my old asics that I loved but they are are on their last legs.

comeagainforbigfudge · 22/03/2016 18:55

W3r1 done. My, that was hard work. But i didnt give up. Just slowed my pace down a bit to almost a crawl and i finished it. So pleased with myself.

Do any of you use an exercise app to record your jogs? I have one and after each jog i pour over it seeing if ive improved any. Ive not. But its still fun to look at Grin

coolpatterngirl · 22/03/2016 19:05

Well done everyone and welcome to all the new names.

Finished week 6 last week with the 25 minute run. I'm beyond thrilled with the progress I've made.

I've done 2 short runs this week but will start week 7 run 1 tomorrow morning.

Does the Run Double app run in conjunction with C25k app whilst running? I like Laura's encouragement and am not ready to switch her off yet.

Stellar67 · 22/03/2016 19:10

Well done everyone! I have the physio on Thursday so fingers crossed I'll be back in my trainers soon.

Bigfudge I use map my run- I saw my times per km improving in week 4. Just because he total run time extends, not because I'm in any way fast! I'm very slow still but looking forward to managing 30mins and then looking forward to managing 5k however long it takes me!

Rinceoir · 22/03/2016 20:01

Stellar, good luck with physio!

KeepOnPlodding · 22/03/2016 22:15

Bigfudge I have a Garmin watch and use the Garmin app ("all the gear and no idea"Smile). I also spend a lot of time pondering over what I've done...

Well done to everyone completing runs and weeks.

coolpatterngirl · 23/03/2016 06:11

I'm going to try Map my Run this morning. I feel as if the last 7 weeks don't count now as I didn't have a proper app. I was using the ❤️ App on the iPhone 😳

comeagainforbigfudge · 23/03/2016 06:28

Oh goody. Im not the only one to obsess Grin.

cool ive never heard of run double. Is it an iphone special?

I use cardio trainer app and it runs in background, as does c25k app. Then i have my music on. But c25k lady chats/beeps over the music so i dont miss any instructions.

coolpatterngirl · 23/03/2016 08:07

Fudge, I read about the app on the previous thread but it's a paid app so I'll try the free Map my Run today and report back if it works!

RunDouble was on the App Store and it seems to be a C25k logging app. I'm so disappointed I didn't start tracking earlier.

JellyJ · 23/03/2016 15:19

I am using Map my Run and Run Keeper at the moment to work out which I prefer (they are both v similar). They both give verbal progress (eg distance covered) every 10 mins or so and record total distance and speed. Both of them work alongside C25K so you hear the messages from both and also you can have music at the same time as well if you want. I looked at Run Double and decided it wasn't what I needed.

I did W6r2 today. I don't find it easy and only just manage to complete the runs each time. I think I psych myself up for whatever the target is that day. Today 2 x 10 mins was hard. On Friday I've got to try and do 25 mins. Yikes!!

Stellar67 · 24/03/2016 13:57

That's me out for now as have knee problem and been told to stop.

Keep up the great work everyone. I'll hopefully be back after a rest. Smile

Sorry to hear that Stellar! Hope you're soon on the mend and back to it Smile
I was supposed to do w4r3 today but struck down with a cold. Hoping it's eased enough by tomorrow as I don't want to get behind. Not sure how long off you'd have before your fitness dwindled?!

Kilmeny · 24/03/2016 19:13

I started week 8 today and the 28 minute run. Been doing the 25 minute ones ok but think I ran too soon after eating today as I wasn't feeling as good as usual. Managed it though. I run next to a canal and I actually had a swan racing me. Everytime I glanced across it was right behind me.

Rinceoir · 24/03/2016 21:07

Did w5r1 today. Didn't find it too hard and thought I was doing great until I realised I was way slower than last week, I'm blaming the rain, and tired legs from 2 long days running around my hospital.

DontDoItDi · 25/03/2016 11:49

Week 1 Run 1 today.

I didn't make it to the parkrun last year though I did manage 5k in 30 minutes for a couple of weeks. Then my right foot mysteriously started dragging and I had to stop running to rest it and by the time it was back to normal the weather had turned grim and I decided to stop running over the winter.

It was great to be out in the sunshine with the Voice of Laura again. I am horribly unfit and I'm just glad it starts nice and gently.

Here's hoping for a parkrun this year! Good luck to all runners and recoverers.

comeagainforbigfudge · 25/03/2016 12:47

W3R2 done this morning. Was really hard going. Went a different route that was more hilly. And i just did two long crazy days in work that were non stop. So todays effort was very slow BUT i did it so thats all that matters Grin

Rinceoir · 26/03/2016 10:11

W5r2 done, found first 8minute run tough, second more manageable. 4.6km total including walks. Dreading the 20min run now. Planning it on Monday. Fuelled by some Easter egg I think! I'm trying to decide between going to local football field and running it there (pros- it's flat, cons-it's boring).

Rinceoir · 26/03/2016 10:11

Posted too soon! Or doing it on the same route I've been doing which is very hilly.

StylishDuck · 26/03/2016 12:05

Can I join? Just did W1R1 this morning in the pouring rain. Feeling quite smug! First time running since I had DD 13 months ago but actually felt pretty good. I have done 5k before years ago, my best time being 28 mins but I'm a long way off that. Reckon I'll probably only manage 2 runs a week for a wee while but I'm determined to keep plodding through it.

SkodaLabia · 26/03/2016 13:51

Sitting here with a similarly porky friend slightly bewildered by the number of couch to 5k apps. Can someone please direct us to the right/best one?

DoreenLethal · 26/03/2016 15:09

The NHS one Skoda.
