still learnin Sorry to hear about home dramas. Hope it's resolved soon. Is he the resident parent, or is this all happening when she's visiting for weekends etc?

lastqueen In case I dont come on here tomorrow, best of luck for Sunday. You'll kill it, I'm sure. I remember spending the first 3 miles thinking "I cant believe I'm actually doing a marathon" and then just got swept away by the atmosphere and the crowd and barely felt tired until 23 miles (at which point I got cramp Grin). Even so, it was much easier hobbling along the embankment with hundreds of people cheering you on.

Re. the mohican runner, it's a shame he descended into stealth boasting/ sniping as I think he would have been better using the word count expanding on his central point, which is quite valid. There does seem to be a trend on a certain running FB group I frequent (wont name and shame) whereby people are escalating far too quickly to marathon distance, seeing it as the holy grail of running achievement *(and then bitching about the organisers of small local marathons who have implemented a 6 hr cut off). There are a few people who come to running late in life who can achieve couch to 26.2 in 12 months, but they're the minority, and for most people, especially if they're been sweat dodgers their whole lives, they'd benefit from building up over a few years via 10k/ 13.1 to build an aerobic base and let their muscles and connective tissue get used to it. One thing that strength training has really taught me is that beyond a point you primarily get better through consolidation- drives me mad as I'm such an instant gratification person, but there you go.

KeyserSophie · 22/04/2016 02:19

Ha ha - was so busy waxing lyrical I forgot to add my miles

11 from yesterday- 10k gym commute and 8k social hilly run in the evening.

478.16

Anglaise1 · 22/04/2016 07:05

Haven't posted for a while but congrats to Keyser for your fantastic race and to everyone else who has run...especially the marathonians - Louey (great time) and anyone else!
Merde for the VLM on Sunday LastQueen I'll be thinking of you. You'll be fine - if I can offer one piece of advice it would be to decide on the time you want to run (2 x HM + 10 mins?) and Pace Yourself. Whatever you do don't go off to fast and do the first HM in a great time because you'll lose double whatever you gain in the second HM.
This is a useful pacing band tool
www.runnersworld.co.uk/racing/runners-world-pace-band-generator/3918.html

Most importantly enjoy yourself!
98 miles to add from the last 10 days, hopefully I won't mess up the maths like the last time I posted Blush

4 miles with my friend and the dogs 580.17

HalleLouja · 22/04/2016 08:50

7.5 miles from this week makes 587.67.

Loueytb3 · 22/04/2016 11:20

5.27 from yesterday, nice gentle run around the Thames, soaking up the pre-VLM atmosphere. Barriers were up already and I saw the 25 mile and 40k markers (which were huge!) Jealous that you get to run it lastqueen - loads of luck. Great advice from anglaise as always. Did you manage to avoid your hammering credit card at the expo - I spent loads the year I went.

purpletoes I am a bit confused by your interval session. What did you do? I really need to do some speed work over the summer so need ideas for training sessions.

stilllearnin that sounds like an awful situation, your poor dd. Hope it sorts itself out.

emummy good luck for the trail race

cinnamon the juggling we have to do...

Legs are still tired, so I'm going to wait until Sunday before I do another run. I've got several people on the VLM tracker, including a friend who is on the championship start (very exciting!) so I am looking forward to watching them run.

592.94

Purpletoes · 22/04/2016 12:14

Loueytb3 it was basically 20 mins of 1lap relay then 10 mins of 200m relay and then 6x60m relay. So basically rest period depended on how slow/fast your partner was! Was fun and ran faster than I have in ages but obviously short distances.

Hope the pic makes it easier to understand. Grin

If I could do 2x my hm + 10 mins of be delighted. Maranoia has well and truly set in!! I'm doubting everything and anything

FiftyNineOhEight · 23/04/2016 08:26

lastqueen you will smash it! You have trained really well, and you can do it. It's al in the mind at this point. I hope it goes well for you, I am slightly Envy of you, and definitely in awe - as someone said to me when I was doing mine the achievement isn't the 26.2 on the day, it's the months of training you've put in beforehand, and all the other things you've had to give up to get this far (family Sundays, wine, sleep, whatever Smile)

Anglaise1 · 23/04/2016 11:46

lastqueen you'll be fine, don't worry! Have you got your meals sorted for today and tomorrow? I hope you haven't got the cold wind we have here for tomorrow's race in London. It wasn't an easy run this morning with the wind in our faces.
17.2 to add from the last 2 days.
610.14

emummy · 23/04/2016 14:30

Good luck lastqueen, you will be great! Hope the weather is ok too, we have had heavy snow showers today in NE Scotland, and I was happy to not be doing the 5k or 10k races at Balmoral today, hope it will be dry for my run there tomorrow. Dd2 managed to sneak her race in between the snow showers and came 25th out of 381 so she's quite happy!

MyBlackCat · 23/04/2016 19:40

Good luck tomorrow lastqueen Grin

lastqueenofscotland · 23/04/2016 20:45

Thank you everyone!! I've got some gnocci and Garlic bread cooking and made flapjacks earlier to have for breakfast tomorrow (I know not healthy but it works for me, all my best long runs/races have been fuled by them!)
Taking my own drink so I can avoid the scrums at the first few drinks stations and just crossing my fingers!!

cinnamongreyhound · 23/04/2016 21:56

Ooooo lastqueenofscotland, listening to you almost makes me want to run a marathon, will be thinking of you, enjoy!!!

Parkrun and there and back from me 614.14

stilllearnin · 23/04/2016 22:55

Just sneaking in to say good luck to lastqueen for tomorrow. I shall be out hopefully first thing and doing a lot less but I will be thinking of you as I trudge along!

Purpletoes · 24/04/2016 09:12

Good luck lastqueen am sat feeding DD watching it all on tv. Watching it is making want to enter the ballot for next year. Atmosphere also looks amazing!
No parkrun for me yesterday as I was working but did sneak a 5 km in on commute home.
Am looking forward to running tomorrow with the 401 challenge.

KeyserSophie · 24/04/2016 14:13

just adding 10 from the weekend. Sadly all pretty junky miles- a gym commute yesterday and then a quick 8k tonight just to get away from the kids who are driving me mad fighting (raining- cabin fever).

Thinking of last queen although I think she'll be done if I've calculated the time difference right.

627.24

Anglaise1 · 24/04/2016 16:47

8 mile to add from a last minute trail race I decided to do this morning which I shouldn't have done following a 10 mile run yesterday, my coach will never speak to me again. Still I came in 3rd woman overall, the 1st and 2nd placed were 20 years younger than me and there were 174 runners in total so I was quite happy.
Got back in time to see some of the London Marathon, wish I could have been running it too! Can't wait to hear how today's marathonians got on!

emummy · 24/04/2016 17:48

Brilliant +AnglIse* well done!
Very happy here, 15 mile trail race, 1115 feet of climb including nasty wee hill at 14 miles and a new PB! Beat previous best by 24 minutes and it was a gorgeous run, through old pine forest with beautiful rocky streams and then up into hills around snow covered Lochnagar, just stunning! Did whole thing with a smile on my face, and I wasn't last!
Fingers crossed for lastqueen
Mine + Anglaise's 8 is 650.24

lastqueenofscotland · 24/04/2016 18:38

That was the best best best run of my life. Didn't hit the wall and actually enjoyed it, burst into tears on the finish line to the extent some random person gave me a hug. This time last year I could just about run a 5k, I'm overjoyed.

Going to do an October one I think Grin

lastqueenofscotland · 24/04/2016 18:39

Shit I should add my miles.
276.44

emummy · 24/04/2016 18:51

Brilliant lastqueen, well done! So glad that you enjoyed it. You've earned a rest now, and maybe some wine?!

MyBlackCat · 24/04/2016 19:03
