The HM went well thank you Anglaise. Faster than last year, not quite as fast as 2 years ago, we I was still marathon fit and a half felt like a walk in the park.

purple now I see where your name comes from Grin

My garmin tells me 13.4 (started it a bit early, and didn't switch it off immediately) so who am I to argue Smile

Fiftynine well done on your HM it is difficult to better a post marathon HM when you still have all the training in your legs!
Suzanne can I be cheeky and ask a question regarding heart rate (you know a lot more than me on the subject!)
I wore a monitor during my race and my hr was averaging 180 which is high considering the distance and speed I ran, normally it is only 170 for such a race, and not above 170 for shorter faster races. Is there any reason to be worried about it?

suzannecaravaggio · 07/12/2015 10:30

Anglaise i do the same run at the same speed every other day and sometimes my hr is around 10 BPM higher than normal.
I've no idea whyConfused

It only seems to happen with running, i use my heart rate monitor for walking, cycling, weight training, cross trainer in the gym and for those activities heart rate is always about the same relative to the level of exertion.

My guess is that because running is so much more intense you can very easily flip into a higher zone where your heart has to work extra hard to keep up?

I have no idea if it is something to be concerned above and now you've got me thinking ....I know that prolonged high intensity endurance exercise has been found to correlate with cardiac arrhythmia but there doesn't seem to be much agreement as to how much is too much.

As a percentage of the population people who even do a minimum of exercise are a minority and there just isn't a big enough data sample (I presume) from those who do prolonged intense exercise to draw meaningful conclusions

Sorry that probably doesn't help at all!

Might be worth a peruse

Anglaise1 · 07/12/2015 12:39

Thanks very much Suzanne for your own experience and the links regarding athlete's hearts. It is encouraging to know that your heart goes up by 10bpm sometimes when running too - strange but something to keep an eye on in future races perhaps. As you say, it is probably very hard to do a meaningful study with low numbers of people who exercise.
I went for a recuperation run this morning and everything was normal. Of course it could just be that the heart monitor wasn't where it usually is because I was wearing a new bra - I have one of those strap one ones and because I'm not big in the bust department it fits approximately under the bra some bras hold it in place more than others!

cinnamongreyhound · 07/12/2015 20:52

4 canicross miles tonight, I was late so had to catch up so was quite speedy for me 290.02

suzannecaravaggio · 07/12/2015 21:38

from the various online discussions I've seen on the subject Anglaise it's pretty common for heart rate to vary even when the level of exertion is the same.
Then again those things do malfunction and give the wrong reading sometimes...I'm not sure why I bother with the damn thing :o

11 miles from me

(although I nearly sacred myself out of it by reading a load of stuff about what prolonged high cardiac output can do to your heart Confused )

emummy · 08/12/2015 08:04

No running for me today. Ds woke in night screaming with tummy pain, ended up in A&E (after he vomited all over the car), so not in bed till 4am. He's sleeping now thankfully, but dh is away, perfect timing!

Brighit · 08/12/2015 13:51

I hope your ds is ok emummy.

I don't wear a heart monitor myself, I have enough trouble with 'white coat' high bp once I see a monitor, I'd imagine a heart rate monitor may do the same Grin Probably should considering some of my immediate family has heart issues.

5.5 from this morning. Was horrible, had bad acid reflux most of the way round, thought at one stage vomiting may be the only way to get rid of it as I'd no water with me. My own stupid fault for setting off with nothing to eat and a coffee down my neck without giving my med for my reflux time to work. Lesson learned.

Hello lovely new thread!!!

I'm nearly there with my thesis, have been at the computer all day, every day but have headed out every morning for a run so done 4 x 5miles since Saturday. Amazing the magic power of running for de-stressing!

Submission is Friday, and I have a night race Friday night, can't wait!!!!

emummy I hope you DS is ok flowers

anglaise suzanne I've not even been taking my Garmin these past couple of weeks let alone measuring my heart rate!

Running 'naked'
respect Runto
that's truly hardcore :o

Anglaise1 · 08/12/2015 21:21

Runtothehills good for you, do you enjoy your runs more without your Garmin? I forgot mine for one run with a friend and panicked - although in the end it was fine, you just go at your own pace. Although we found it hard to chat at one point so we were going too fast...but I couldn't check to be exact about the speed!I hope your thesis is going well and helped by your morning runs.
emummy How is DS? I hope he is OK, how worrying for you espcially with DH away.
10 miles from dog run and club session tonight. It was my turn to pay for the drinks and my homemade cheese straws (with cheddar) went down a storm with all the Froggies. Who said British food is awful?

Gosh emummy how scary. Fingers crossed he's on the mend. Four from me 336.57

cinnamongreyhound · 08/12/2015 22:23

Hope ds is feeling better emummy Sad and you get some sleep.

Good luck with your thesis submission runtothehills, I always remember the mad rush for finishing, pruning and getting to the binders when I was working at the university. We had one German student who I thought was in early as she beat me in but had actually just not left from the day before!! Wow on a run that evening, most people would just want to flop!

4 miles from me tonight, same route as yesterday just with my regular running buddy instead of canicross club, still dark Sad 340.57

FiftyNineOhEight · 09/12/2015 19:13

3 cold and sunny lunchtime miles from me today.

Only a couple more weeks until the shortest day cinnamon

mmmm, cheesestraws Smile

Well done on juggling your thesis and running runto, will we have to call you Dr runto soon?

That sounds horrid Brighit, hope you are better now.

Poor DS emummy, hope he is better today and you have caught up on some sleep Flowers

Was a lovely day for a run today!

emummy · 10/12/2015 14:05

Lovely day today as well cinnamon! Finally made it out with the dog for a run in the sunshine. Chilly & breezy but very nice.
Thanks for the good wishes for ds. He woke up the next morning bright as a button, hike I looked like a zombie after 2 hours sleep! He is completely fine. We're blaming a certain fast food chain where we had dinner that evening after an event in the big smoke.

cinnamongreyhound · 10/12/2015 17:07

Good news on ds emummy, it was a nice morning here but raining by 11. My friend cancelled on me this morning but after lots of wake ups with ds3 I was quite glad of 30more mins in bed, wishing I had gone on my own all day though!

MrsHarveySpecter · 10/12/2015 18:38

Another short run from me today. Pouring with rain!

cinnamongreyhound · 11/12/2015 07:28

4 from me in light drizzle. So glad I ran today! After two days off I felt I needed it, after all I said about not wanting to do the December challenge I think given enough hours in the day I could run daily. I do miss it on my days off! 363.72

runtothehills · 11/12/2015 22:16
