Had a go at the new commute run today, very steadily as I am meant to be tapering.

The hill is gradual with about 100 yard steep bit near the top and over a mile long Shock
Surprisingly I was running up it.... And actually enjoyed it. I think it could be a good way to fit some training into my run commutes.

HalleLouja · 19/04/2016 08:50

Louey well done. I heard it was a tough course on Sunday and also really warm. You will shave those darn seconds off.

Lastqueen remember taper is important.....

emummy · 19/04/2016 10:47

Easy run this morning, tapering for Sunday's 15 mile trail.

Loueytb3 · 19/04/2016 11:23

Halle yes it was warm and busy, but I think the toilet saga just meant I was out of sorts from the outset, which is not a good way to start a race. When I did eventually get to the start the bloody announcer wound me up even more by saying how well organised it was and it had gone like clockwork Hmm. One of my friends posted that I should think of it as 3:59:83 which I like very much Grin I will get that sub 4hr. In planning mode at the moment. Mainly planning on how I can get DH to agree to the next one. Although to be fair, even he knows there will be a next one…

lastqueen are you in taper madness by any chance Smile Sounds like your run commute will be a good way to get those miles in.

Waves to cinnamon

3.1 recovery miles this morning. Gorgeous weather today

Loueytb3 · 19/04/2016 11:24

oops, forgot to wave to emummy as well.

HalleLouja · 19/04/2016 11:39

Louey are you going back to Abingdon?

HalleLouja · 19/04/2016 11:40

Or lots of my running club are going to Bournemouth. I was considering the marathon but am doing RPHM the week after so may do 5k or 10k.

KeyserSophie · 19/04/2016 14:18

Adding 5 from track tonight- 10x (300m at 3k pace+ 100m recovery jog), 2 mins rest, then repeat. Hellish.

Louey If Strava says sub-4 then it's sub-4. Strava is never wrong. Just make sure you put it on both FB and Instagram, or it didn't happen Grin . Haven't heard too many people complaining about Brighton yet, but I heard that Manchester was shambolic with a 2 hour wait to get bags and a lack of clarity about whether the race had actually started.

Last queen Stop running! I order you. I know it feels all wrong, but on Sunday it will be so worth it. Gotta beat your mum's time, remember??

Had some good news- turns out that by virtue of being one of few women to do both the Stairmaster races, I win the series. I win a free entry to a race in China which looks awesome but a bit crazy- on the edge of the Gobi. Not sure if I'll actually go.

Hello Loueytb3, waves

MyBlackCat · 19/04/2016 17:45

3.4 miles from me, a real struggle I've basically lost 1min per mile in the space of three weeks Shock. The weekend after next I am doing a 12 hour relay race, I've got to run 20km in 2x10km blocks, I've no idea how I'm going to manage it. It's with work colleagues so I can't even explain myself.

Well done keyser on your series win, hope you make it to China. I've got the Great Wall of china marathon on my bucket list Grin

Loueytb3 · 19/04/2016 22:25

keyser well done! That's an awesome prize. How many people would get that kind of prize. I hope you decide to go. Heard loads of complaints about Manchester, particularly the queue for the bags. There are a fair number about the loos at Brighton, at least I wasn't the only one.

Halle can't do Abingdon this year sadly as its during half term and we are away. I am thinking either Bournemouth or Chester if I can convince DH
Jealous of your ballot place for RPHM.

myblackcat are you feeling a bit under the weather? Hope your mojo returns.

Purpletoes · 19/04/2016 22:43

Loueyb congratulations on your marathon. Can't imagine running that long have only done one half and that was plenty for the moment anyway. Wink
Keyser that trip sounds amazing. Well done on winning the series.

I had club run tonight. Wa running late so had to speed my way there. Decided to do the upper group I have done a couple of times. Was a mistake they were super speedy tonight was supposed to be 9:30 pace but averaged 9:15. Was keeping up at the back but my friend and I slightly struggling so we had a shortcut and met back up with them. My pace average d 9:40 although friend I ran with was 9:30! So 6 to add from me.

lastqueenofscotland · 20/04/2016 08:44

Sorry keyser... I went for a little 5.5 mile jog yesterday. It really was just a jog I promise!! 442.53

CANT run tonight as off to the expo

lastqueenofscotland · 20/04/2016 15:43

Interested on opinions on this:
mohicanrunner.co.uk/?p=8949

Cause it's pissed me right off. I don't disagree that marathons aren't the be all and end all but I think it's attitude to anyone who runs slower than 6 min miles is just fucking toxic.

Maybe I'm just all sensitive so close to my big day!!!

lastqueenofscotland · 20/04/2016 15:50

In raging at that above. I will be trying my heart out on Sunday, I will be racing myself, it will probably take me over four hours, my mum who is no spring chicken tried her heart out at a 10k and she took 1:07 is that therefore not worthy of entering a race as its slow?!

What a twat. Angry

emummy · 20/04/2016 16:19

His/her opinion is based on seeing running as a competitive sport and the whole point being to get better and faster. That's fine, it's what works for some people but I think the best thing about the sport of running is that there is room for everyone, from those always pursuing faster times, to those who never enter a race and just enjoy the running for the fitness, mental health and pleasure it gives them, and everyone in between. He does say that it's ok to be slower but he thinks that you should only enter a race if you are going to race it hard, whatever speed that may be for you. Sounds like a more male and competitive view to me - my husband never enters races but he just can't run slowly, he always comes back exhausted from a run! some people are just focused on speed but I think there's room for us all. And a 7 hour marathon is usually done by someone who has had to work really hard to get there, so I think that is still an achievement to be celebrated.

lastqueenofscotland · 20/04/2016 18:47

I just found it slightly sneering towards runners who maybe aren't naturally fast but try. I don't know there was something about I the way it was written that's really ground my gears. The title sounds like it could be constructive but it's just a massive, and not that pleasant stealth boast IMO

FiftyNineOhEight · 20/04/2016 21:46

Well done louey! Sounds like sub-4 to me Grin

Keyser congratulations Flowers Star

Ah happy days cinners I remember going there on a school trip, must have been more than 30 years ago. We all went mad for the ticker tape Grin

lastqueen stop! No more!

emummy DH and both my boys are like that - whatever sport they are doing they give 100% and half kill themselves. I on the other hand pootle along applying the 80/20 rule and turn up half an hour later feeling like a human being and not needing stretchering home Grin

6 slow miles tonight with friends. My dodgy calf was fine but my foot, which I thought was getting better, now really hurts Sad

I didn't today, instead I went to the expo and are so many cliff bar/block samples i felt sick Grin

emummy · 21/04/2016 11:28

Easy run in the forest in the sunshine, last one before Sunday's trail race - probably the last of the sunshine too! Forecast a bit chilly for this weekend, fingers crossed for no snow.
Good luck lastqueen, I hope your race goes well and you enjoy the day, and good luck to any other racers this weekend.

cinnamongreyhound · 21/04/2016 12:08

Eeeek good luck lastqueenofscotland! I won't read the article of its making everyone angry! Men and their running hey!

Lovely run this morning in the forest, horrible start as ds3 was up from 5.30, finally settled him enough to leave with dh and then ds1&2 got up, just managed to get dressed and sort dogs and only be 5mins late. Meant we had to run faster so that was good! 452.06

stilllearnin · 21/04/2016 14:45

Hello all. Good luck lastqueen

Well I have had a chaotic week (ex keeps kicking my dd out - she is 11 and lovely; not 19 and ripping you off for drug money). so this is my first run since sunday. Quite warm isn't it?!

457.56

lastqueenofscotland · 21/04/2016 19:44

Stilllearnin your poor dd :(
Last run from me (promise) gentle 6.6 home at below target Mara pace so was vv steady!!

464.16 I think? Brains gone to shit

Purpletoes · 21/04/2016 22:59

Stillearnin your poor DD.

Lastqueen hope you enjoyed your taper run! Quite long one Wink enjoy Sunday. Lots of my club are running or supporting.

I did club track session for the first time tonight. I really enjoyed it though did remind me of athletics as a girl. It was a fun parlauf session of 400,200and 60. It was quite user due to all the marathoners giving it a miss between Brighton and London.
I was in awe of some of our speedier runners.

Between relays and warm up and down 3 to add
