Considering that 10k on the 2nd runtothehills, will see how next week goes!

custardcreamdreams · 27/12/2015 22:26

Very jealous of the sledging runtothehills. Db's up in a village in the highlands and was out in the snow before Christmas. It's been very weirdly warm here in Ireland. We were out running in shorts on Boxing Day Shock

cinnamongreyhound · 28/12/2015 08:18

Thank you for all your well wishes, I was better Christmas Day but my digestion is still not quite right, feeling very full very quickly and for quite a while after I've eaten. Haven't managed to run because I felt pants and festivities plus I was rd at parkrun Boxing Day and that was really my only chance. Hoping to go today if it doesn't upset dh too much, he's been a bit more upset by my leaving him to go for a run recently Sad
Hope all you lovely ladies had a wonderful festive period and well done on those who managed to run!

suzannecaravaggio · 28/12/2015 12:09

he's been a bit more upset by my leaving him to go for a run recently
Its sweet that he misses you 👼
But does sound a bit claustrophobic Cinnamon😷

cinnamongreyhound · 28/12/2015 13:09

He's generally being difficult suzannecaravaggio and running is just one of the issues. It is mainly because I'm training for a hm so Sunday is a long run and Saturday is parkrun so no lazy mornings together. He has even complained that he comes after the children in the last few days which I'm afraid is a given with me, we decided to have them and I will always put them first but that's a whole other thread!!

Got out while he was training and did 5.6 miles, time restraints and my general lack of self belief meant I didn't attempt anymore but once I got out it was wonderful and I didn't struggle at all! And the weather was great and my new shoes were fabulous! 946.9

Hi cinnamon (and everyone) feel a bit stalkery but cba to namechange (am in your canicross FB group) just wondering which half you are preparing for and if there are any dog friendly 10ks coming up anywhere soon?

MyBlackCat · 28/12/2015 16:51

4.6 miles from me - best I've felt in ages, think I may have found my mojoGrin or it may have been the lack of wind. I've taken the plunge and ordered some trail shoes, they should come on Wednesday Smile I need to do a long trail run at some point this week so hopefully I will get to try them out.

custardcreamdreams · 28/12/2015 17:03

Hurrah BlackCat. Can I ask what sort of trial shoes you go for? I take it they don't work along the same way as support or cushion like the road shoes? Have some OCRs and Tough Mudder this year and have heard trial shoes are better for them?

I also need a new pair of normal shoes myself. My Sauconys are starting to wear away at the inside back of the heels which I'm not too impressed about as I haven't done 300 in them yet. My previous Brookes versions were wore to the death and I still wear them doing the gardening without anything like that. Maybe the sizing doesn't fit me as well. Ahh well it's a good excuse for new trainers.

KeyserSophie · 28/12/2015 17:26

Just adding 9 from this morning's effort to make 972.15.

We're still in the Uk so I'm aiming to run every other day. My parents are here as well as DH so no excuses really. Is nice to actually be able to run for an hour or so consistently without stopping for climbs/ scrambles etc. so a bit of a novelty. Aiming for a "long run" on Wednesday. Planned myself a nice route around the lakes in Poole park.

custard for OCRs I'd just buy a cheap pair as apparently they get trashed and the running bits aren't long enough to worry too much about the quality of the shoes. Most trail shoes are neutral though. I'd go light shoes with lugs for the mid. For road I wear Hoka Cliftons which I love.

cinnamon Is that Thetford Forest? Many happy childhood memories!!

MyBlackCat · 28/12/2015 17:49

custard I don't really have a clue about trail shoes. I run in adidas trainers after having my gait analysed a few years ago and on this basis I googled adidas trail shoes and picked cheapish ones that looked nice Grin I've ordered these...

http://www.sportsshoes.com/product/adi7253/adidas-kanadia-7-women's-trail-running-shoes-~-aw15/

I've got a 15 mile trail run in February and was getting fed up of slipping in the mud in my trainers, I hope these are more grippy Smile

AgeingArtemis · 28/12/2015 18:14

Hello all!

I have just completed the first run of C25K Grin

I actually consider myself semi-fit as I cycle and do martial arts but I do not/cannot run to save my life. I'm planning on changing that, but I know it's going to be hard.

FiftyNineOhEight · 28/12/2015 18:44

Hello everyone, hope you are all well and have been having a good Christmas break.

Welcome Artemis Smile

BlackCat I would be interested to hear how you get on - I run on trails in my local country park and at this time of year it gets really boggy and muddy. Parts of the route are on paths - I assume you can use trail shoes on paths/pavements as well? Glad you have re-found your mojo. DH and I were just saying how much more we enjoyed our runs today with no headwind to run into all the way home Smile

Keyser hope the jet lag is OK. We met up with some Aussie pals who were in from Indonesia lat week who were really struggling with the combination of jet lag and it getting dark so early.

custard I'm a big fan of Sauconys. I had one pair wear out as you describe, but they were never 100% comfortable from the start - bizarrely they were fine for running, but rubbed when I walked in them. The design has changed again and the newer version has been fine again.

at MrCinners for being silly. Lovely shoes though cinnamon, hope your tummy is fully recovered.

Fab mileage RTTH - hope your 10K goes well (and you too emummy if you do it). I'm double parkrunning on NYD, but with a break between the two halves Smile

I hope that's everyone - sorry if I have missed anyone!

3.1 parkrun miles from Saturday and 6.00 really enjyable sunny squelchy boggy off-road miles from today.

981.25 (hope I haven't x-posted with anyone of the numbers will be wrong!)

FiftyNineohEight, there are a variety of different trail shoes which suit different surfaces. You can get shoes which will do a mixture of trail and road - hybrid maybe? My trail shoes are definitely trail only, they can slip a little on road. Like your new shoes cinnamon, wishing you many happy miles in them!

familygermsareok · 28/12/2015 19:38

Re trail shoes I had Adidas kanadias for my first ones and was really happy with them. I used them for Tough Mudder and they were great, much grippier than normal shoes and they stayed on! Quite a few folk, including one of my team mates, had their shoes sucked off in the deep mud. And afterwards I just slooshed them around in a bucket of water, left to dry stuffed with newspaper and they were as good as ever.
fiftyNine I found they were fine on a bit of Tarmac and regularly used them for my mixed trail/Tarmac runs in the muddier or icy weather but they are a bit clunkier on hard surfaces over longer distances. I did a mixed terrain hm in them, maybe about 6 miles hard surface, and they were fine for that.

cinnamongreyhound · 29/12/2015 08:49

Hi thedevilinmyshoes! I'm doing Cambridge half on 28th Feb. My club have their canicross only 10k on 23rd Jan. Otherwise I haven't looked at any races, there are the dunerunner series which allow dogs I think there's one in March.

A good value pair are adidas Performance Kanadia Trail 6 M17446, Unisex-Adult Running Shoes, Multicolour (Vista Blue/Core Black/Frost Mint), 3.5 UK [[https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00MIJ1ZXC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_yBKGwbEG9KJ4J]]
custardcreamdreams, I run almost exclusively in trails shoes and find them fine for support but then I'm neutral anyway. I have just retired these ones after a year of running in them and got some innov-8's, which are quite a bit more minimal. Ah MyBlackCat's link is the new model to mine Smile

Yes it is KeyserSophie, good spot! We live right in the middle so most of my runs are in the forest, was gorgeous yesterday but a bit dark this morning.

Welcome AgingArtemis, the first run is the toughest! I did c25k 4 years ago Smile

FiftyNineOhEight it's not supposed to be great for the shoes to run on Tarmac too much but I found my adidas ones were fine. They were a bit slippy on cobbly kind of surface but normal Tarmac was ok.

4 lonely dark forest miles from me this morning but I still enjoyed them! Dh was asleep and I had to get up for work anyway but slightly later than normal but it was disappointing dark at 7.30 when I finished!

cinnamongreyhound · 29/12/2015 08:51

Ok links must have changed!

emummy · 29/12/2015 11:33

Slow run in woods this morning. Dog had great time, me not so much! Legs felt really heavy and tired so had to walk up last hill. Lovely morning though, and a slow run is better than no run!

MyBlackCat · 29/12/2015 14:21

11 miles slipping around in the mud - these trail shoes can't come quick enough Smile

1001.35

custardcreamdreams · 29/12/2015 15:18

Thanks for all the info re trials shoes. Good call about getting cheap ones Keyser. I did an OCR last year and nearly lost mine in the mud. Unfortunately I am most def not a neutral runner cinnamon. I over pronate quite a bit and am meant to wear insoles in my day-to-day shoes. I love your new ones though, awesome colour.

8.5 today. Beautiful morning for it and glad it's all over with now as we are meant to be hit with a bad storm from this afternoon.

1009.85

Anglaise1 · 29/12/2015 19:58

There are no mountains and very little mud here, so my Salomon Speedcross rarely get an outing at all. Hybrids are often more use unless you have some really technical trails (like HK)
18.8 to add from the last 2 days. I got the book 'how to run faster' for Christmas so am devouring that. Running more than once a day and core strength training are both a high priority according to the book, so I've finally started sit ups to work on my abdos which you need to make your legs work faster.
Marathon training now started.

lastqueenofscotland · 30/12/2015 13:06

4.1 rough miles from me. Ridiculously fast wind like being on a treadmill. So frustrating

1032.65

FiftyNineOhEight · 30/12/2015 16:23

5 miles from me, probably my last run of the year. Except my total for the year is a really wonky number, and I like round ones, so I may have to go out tomorrow and run 1.32 miles, which would give me 666 for the year, two thirds of my original target of 1000 miles Smile

1037.65

OP posts:
FiftyNineOhEight · 30/12/2015 16:24

Scrub that, it needs to be 11.32 tomorrow. No chance of that. Maybe 5.32, to get to 660 Smile
