I don't have much teaching work at the moment so I have lots more time to run than everyone else here, plus my border collie needs a lot of exercising and I have quite a few friends and club runners nearby to run with so that helps. I'm not sure how effective it is really, high mileage but probably not enough quality running!
7.5 miles from this morning's dog run

6 sunny and windy miles from me today - last run before HM on Sunday.

60.2

MrsHarveySpecter · 02/12/2015 23:19

Back after just over a week off with a chest infection. 5 miles back from work. And now to catch up with the thread...

65.2

Purpletoes · 03/12/2015 07:05

Missed my club run Tuesday night as I had a dodgy tummy. Felt really bad missing it but couldn't risk being far away from toilet! All good now though. Thankfully as I have a race on Sunday.

Hoping to get out this morning as club do a run on Thursdays which I never get to as no one to watch DD but oh is working from home today and has no meetings etc so I am able to go. Yippee.
Will probably pay for it in the evening when oh is working late and DS will be asking to go play with him.

cinnamongreyhound · 03/12/2015 07:09

4 miles from me with both dogs off lead, he's panting like mad!!!! Lovely run, so glad I went as I struggled to get up after a day from hell yesterday! 69.2

Glad to hear you're feeling better MrsHarveySpecter!

cinnamongreyhound · 03/12/2015 09:42

Have I missed a new thread or is it just quiet this morning?

emummy · 03/12/2015 11:00

Quiet I think! We have a wee bit of space before we need a new one. 4.3 miles from me with dog this morning, hilly route through forest. Managed to overtake dog on the downhill, that's a first!

7.2 from me. Run to club meeting point then a nice slow social run through the woods and park then jog home.
My longest distance in a while. Hoping to get up to half marathon distance in the new year.
Was nice to get out in the daylight.

KeyserSophie · 03/12/2015 13:37

20 from me to make 100.6. Got persuaded by a friend to go into the Northern New Territories (on the Chinese border basically- massively rural) to do a recce for a 50k race we're doing next weekend- well, I'm doing the 50, she's doing the 100. God it was tough. Never seen scrambles and technical downhill like it. Am completely exhausted. Not sure where the additional 20k will come from on the day, but I'm going to a fondue that night so maybe the thought of the cheese and booze will power me through. At least this race is staving off the inevitable Christmas exercise and diet armageddon.

HalleLouja · 03/12/2015 15:06

About 10 miles to add from this week. I did 7 miles exactly yesterday which is my longest run in a few months plus 3 miles of intervals with my trainer today. My legs held out well seeing as I did run yesterday. Though yesterday started slowly with some friends of mine but did the last 3 miles alone.

110.6

Anglaise1 · 03/12/2015 15:57

Good luck for your HM on Sunday - I hope the weather is kind to you (it didn't sound too good for the UK this weekend). Keyser rather you than me for the tricky technical descents. I hate them. I'd rather go up than down, no matter how steep.
Halle did you feel better after running for longer? If I'm injured I always suffer more after intervals than a long run.
13 miles from me, dog run and long run with a friend, very nice as mild and sunny. Should be the last run before my little 27km trail race on Sunday but I might be tempted with a little run tomorrow. The forecast here is pretty good and as it hasn't rained for a week the ground won't be too muddy.

5.45 very slow miles to work felt very tough.

custardcreamdreams · 03/12/2015 20:42

My goodness, some amount of mileage. I had a nosey at mine and did a pathetic 30 last month with all the niggles I had Grin. Not too bothered as I've done a fair bit of strength and cross-training instead.

Little 3.5 drenched to the skin and bitterly cold and wishing I had put on my thermal tights

4 this morning from me, bit chilly! Car said 4C driving there. Beautiful clear starry sky after I went to bed to heavy rain. 148.55

runtothehills · 04/12/2015 07:22

Hi total of 25 miles since Saturday. 15 to add to November total making 1439.18, and the rest this month. Lots of snowy/sleety runs, pretty dreich head torch run last night. Good luck Keyser, Anglaise and Halle for your races. Back off to my thesis writing hovel.

154.55

cinnamongreyhound · 04/12/2015 09:19

Think that's 158.55 if you're adding 10 miles runtothehills, think we x posts!

suzannecaravaggio · 04/12/2015 10:09

I agree Custard, I always prioritize strength training if time is short, running loads of miles is great if you have time but I think there are probably diminishing returns in terms of health benefits over say fifteen or twenty miles per week.

Much as I like running I believe increasing and maintaining muscle mass is more important.

Anglaise1 · 04/12/2015 16:52

Blush Xmas BlushI think there are probably diminishing returns in terms of health benefits over say fifteen or twenty miles per week you are probably right Suzanne I wish I could get the motivation to do more weight training but there are no gyms nearby and I haven't got a clue what to do at my house. Would core body exercises like the plank be enough? Or are weights required? My legs are very toned and muscly, but my arms and upper body a less so.
6.2 miles from a run with a friend, in T shirt, shorts, glorious sunshine and blue skies. Definitely a rest day tomorrow before the race Sunday.

Anglaise, imo it's definitely possible to strength train without weights/gym equipment, there are bodyweight exercises, pressups, dips, squats lunges etc.
Youtube is a great place to look for home workout inspiration, just search 'home/bodyweight strength training', or similar

lastqueenofscotland · 04/12/2015 19:32

I'm another who really needs to start incorporating strength training. I keep meaning to but it just looks so awful.
5.1 to the shop to go and buy a bottle of wine and back Grin

emummy · 04/12/2015 20:09

I go to outdoor boot camp once a week, we do squats, lunges, core work etc. it's great fun, we encourage each other and have a moan when it's too hard! I think I'm the youngest there at 44! I do some stuff at home with weights when I get the chance.
