Ok. Would I look a pilock in Converse for the first few times until I can get some footwear? Be honest

Anglaise1 · 29/11/2015 10:24

Jo welcome to the thread and I wouldn't run in Converse, they are flat and it would be really bad for your feet as well as uncomfortable. I would get a pair of trainers, they don't need to be expensive and at your height and weight you don't need to worry about a lot of cushioning to protect your knees.
There are loads of C25k programmes on the internet. I started running a few years ago because I felt like it, ran 15 minutes, stopped because I thought I should, ran 15 minutes and then never stopped again because I was never out of breath. I run every day now, often twice a day.
12 miles from this morning with some friends
1238.45 including the 8 miles from Mudandmayhem

Couch to 5k for me too. Nearly two years ago I couldn't run the length of myself and was a 20 a day smoker although like you I looked fit I was far from it. I quit the day I started running and can now run up half marathon distance.

I personally wouldn't run in converse, they have no proper support on the soles but the first week I ran in the oldest, tattiest trainers I'd had for ten years +.

Jo4040 · 29/11/2015 10:37

Haha. Ok I'll get some trainers.

Thanks, I'll let you know how I get on. So glad I found this thread to give me the kick I needed.

Have a lovley run whoever is going out today also!

cinnamongreyhound · 29/11/2015 10:43

Lovely 8.4 miles, little dog only still Sad but wore my new belt which is great and had 5 other humans and 2 dogs for company this morning Grin 1246.85

KeyserSophie · 29/11/2015 12:34

Adding 13.1 from half marathon this morning to make 1259.95. It was ok, given I had to fly overnight from Mumbai on Friday night so got no sleep at all, and I've still got longhaul bloat. Got round in 1:49 but remembered why I prefer trail running Grin. It's a good lesson in "you get good at what you train at" though as I found it really hard to maintain a 5 min/km pace (and failed obviously, hence time) as I'm just not used to that speed of leg churn on the trails. The last 3km were definitely mind over matter. Was chatting to a girl afterwards who ran a 1:37 (+ she had a baby 5 months ago- I tried hard not to hate her) and she was saying that HK trail runners all get really good at long slow, hilly races but struggle on a fast course. I think I need to sort my diary out so I can go to the track night.

McPie · 29/11/2015 13:35

71.68 miles out of my last 9 runs (sorry keep forgetting to update). Woke up at 3am and was sick, not sure if it was the wine or something I ate but still feel slightly rough just now Sad. I'm going to have lunch and a cuppa and see how I feel/the weather is around 3 or 4ish and may head out on a street light route as I have 10.68 miles to do to hit my months goal of 145 miles.
I hope everyone is managing to get out and about with this weather we are having.
1318.53

McPie · 29/11/2015 13:40

X-post so 1331.63

FiftyNineOhEight · 29/11/2015 14:53

Some amazing running - well done everyone.

Life has got in the way of running for me for the last two weeks - I have only managed 2 x parkruns and a longish run today in the wild wind today, making 15.7 to add to the thread total. I'm nowhere near my goal for this month, and have a HM next weekend. I have run it twice previously, so at least I know where the horrible hills are Smile

FiftyNineOhEight · 29/11/2015 14:53

1347.33

suzannecaravaggio · 29/11/2015 16:06

11 from me 1358.33
very hard to run on the seafront in this wind
waves crashing onto the path
stones washed up everywhere

Purpletoes · 29/11/2015 19:40

5 from me for yesterday. Jog to parkrun and parkrun which was very muddy. Which was very muddy. Impressed with everyone's running my aim for next year is to be able to run a half. Finding the time to do long runs I am finding difficult.
1363.33

HalleLouja · 30/11/2015 09:55

11.1 miles this week makes 1374.43.

Have lost my mojo. If anyone finds it can you please return to me. Would be most grateful.

Anglaise1 · 30/11/2015 10:35

Halle I don't think you are alone and with the bad weather in the UK it probably doesn't help. Not sure how to get your mojo back, but do you have any races planned to train for? Can you change your training pattern? Or buy a new item of running clothing? Run more with other running friends? Or try other sports to give you a break from running which might make you miss it?
Keyser I'm sure some track interval training wouldn't harm your trail racing capabilities at all if you can find time to do it. I run more trails than road races but find the intervals help both sorts of running.
Well done to everyone racing this weekend.
7.6 miles with the dog this morning.

Anglaise I don't mind the weather. Its not that. I think its because my calves have got tight. I am enjoying my session with my coach but not getting any faster. In fact I am getting slower but that is related to the calves I think. I might try and run longer distances again. I quite liked my longer runs..... Decisions decision...

standingonlego · 30/11/2015 16:43

I have been a bit hectic with life but proud that I have managed to fit some running in....however never added mileage to the total for this month.

As it is the last day I make my total months miles to about 40 which includes a HM and a cluster of parkruns.

Taking us to 1421.96

lastqueenofscotland · 30/11/2015 19:04

Just a quick 5k and a bit to round off the month for me. Total milage for the month of 106 which is a fairway shorter of what I wanted but no junk miles in there which is good. Aiming for 150 in December

1424.18

emummy · 01/12/2015 10:55

Challenging run this morning in the ice! Managed to keep my feet, dog did
lovely impression of Bambi on ice! And it was raining, but my nice new winter tights from ronhill kept me warm and dry.
5.1

custardcreamdreams · 01/12/2015 14:38

Sounds dodgy emummy, I'd be on my ear with my lack of balance. I ordered thermal tights during black Friday and am just waiting for a bitter day to try them out :)

4.5 ice-free but very windy.

9.6

suzannecaravaggio · 01/12/2015 15:50

11 miles fighting with the bloody b@stard windAngry

MyBlackCat · 01/12/2015 17:36

6.5 mild but windy miles from me

27.1

Anglaise1 · 01/12/2015 20:07

10 miles from the club session and dog run to start off December. It is so mild here, dry with no wind at all. Ran in T shirt and wished I'd worn shorts instead of capris. SO sorry about all the horrible weather in the UK. I think we are due to get it at the weekend when I have my 27km forest trail race
Just checked Strava and I apparently I ran 250 miles in November, but that should drop off if I follow a marathon plan from mid December. My dog won't be happy!
37.1

suzannecaravaggio · 01/12/2015 21:36

thats pretty high mileage Anglaise:o
my nov total is 174, I dont think I've got it in me to do more that that unless I scale back on some other things.
I'm just relieved I'm still running (mostly) untroubled by the dreaded pita:o

cinnamongreyhound · 01/12/2015 21:49

You are awesome Anglaise1! 250miles!!!!! Weather hasn't been too bad in my part of the U.K., drizzle on Sunday and nice and dry today!

Took big dog today and didn't let him off and he survived!! Almost got stuck in some horrible mud the leeched into my shoes (I really don't do mud!!) and we struggled to get through! Was dry and mild though despite the dark 41.1

lastqueenofscotland · 01/12/2015 21:52

Bloody hell anglaise!

Jog and some intervals for 5 miles
