Hi cinnamon it's November, originally meant to be a marathon (friends live there and are running it) but there's a 10k on same day so hopefully I will finish first (the half is about a month before for some reason)

how's your husband and his thyroid by the way? Grin

PoppyShakespeare · 10/08/2015 09:27

first out of my friends obviously not first out of 8,499 other runners

Whowouldfardelsbear · 10/08/2015 09:28

Well done on the PB lastqueen!

runtothehills I think that is an excellent idea about using the vodka gummy bears as a pick me up. Probably better than jelly babies!

A tiny run of 1.61 miles today on the treadmill. I am trying to get used to it - did a bit better this time by not falling over when I got off!

462.36

PoppyShakespeare · 10/08/2015 12:26

treadmill for me too today whowould am quite fond of it now am in rustic non air conditioned gym

462.36 + 2 = 464.36

familygermsareok · 10/08/2015 13:02

Grin at the knights in the wood Louey, I have Monty Python scenes in my head.

Congrats on PB lastqueen, enjoy your well deserved high Smile

Spanish 10k sounds lovely poppy.

Good thing you were out early cinnamon. Can we have just a little bit of your warmth though, it is back to chilly wind and rain again here!

I think I will be benched for a while, my Achilles is really playing up and I was barely able to walk yesterday. Usually it eases off once I'm up and around but I'm still hobbling today and have a large tender lump Sad

The results came out for my hm and I was chuffed and surprised to find I was second female vet. Small numbers, only 199 runners overall and only 29 in my category but still very nice to get. Don't really feel it is deserved as I didn't run a good race and was 3 mins slower than my PB but it just depends who else is running. Would rather have a functioning Achilles though.......

cinnamongreyhound · 10/08/2015 14:42

It was lovely but has started raining here now too familygermsareok Sad sorry to hear your Achilles is playing up again! Great news on hm though.

He's doing well thanks PoppyShakespeare, his levels are normal but he's also been put on other things and his polyps/rhinitis came back last week which sucked especially as sorting his thyroid was supposed to stop it happening again. Ooh Dr was really rude and told dh off for not getting an ent referral, which surely was up to the GP when he went after Christmas Angry

Anglaise1 · 10/08/2015 17:18

Enjoy your Spanish 10k Poppy it is always fun to do races abroad, as long as the temperature isn't too unbearable.
Congratulations on your HM 2nd vet woman place family that's brilliant, especially as you didn't think you'd run that well. Sad for your Achilles heel problem but maybe now the HM is out of the way a week's rest would do your heel and the rest of your body some good. Everyone in my club except me takes at least a week off running (usually 2) in the summer to recuperate and be fresh for the autumn racing and cross country season.
10 miles from me and the dog.

A pathetic total of 18 miles to add over the last ten days! In my defence I was on holiday in North yorkshire and the HILLS! (And booze, cheese, wine, food, etc. I have put on half a stone, I think!)

I live in Fenland. It's flat. The hills were a shock.

Purpletoes · 10/08/2015 20:32

Hi 6.8 from me today. 481.16

First time I have run 10k or over since 2013 and I managed to do it in 68 mins so chuffed with that.

I am currently at my parents and was going to run with local club but their pace is 8 min miles which is definitely beyond me currently.

Will hopefully get back out for another session before the week is out.

Family congrats on 2nd in category that's great. Hope the Achilles settles soon. *

Poppy* enjoy your Spanish 10k.

KeyserSophie · 11/08/2015 03:30

Family: it just depends who else is running Yeah, it does, but i've stopped thinking like that and started thinking "You've got to be in it to win it" Grin and when the trohy's on the shelf at home and people admire it you dont need to tell them that Jo Pavey wasnt there. I quite like veterans due to number of places increased from 3 to 6, but not only do I now need to worry about how many women I pass, I need to scrutinise them to see if they're 40+. Fresh faced and wrinkle free? Come right on by!

Anyway, well done on your category win and to LastQueen on your PB.

I cant decide if I want my London ballot request to come good or not. On the one hand, I'd love to have another go at it, on the other I'm just not sure I'm as fast as I was as trail running is just such a different animal. I'd hate to go and not do as well as expected

KeyserSophie · 11/08/2015 03:33

Oh yes, and I ran 5 miles very slowly last night to make 486.16.

Loueytb3 · 11/08/2015 07:57

Adding in 10 miles from yesterday. Sadly the Knights seem to have gone home.

Phlebas - 18 miles in 10 days on holiday is very good!! Most people don't do anything.

Family - Smile at 2nd vet. Well done!

purpletoes - well done. That's a good milestone to pass

496.16

emummy · 11/08/2015 09:01

Easy run this morning to start week 7 of the hm plan. Legs felt heavy, ddog misbehaved, forgot to pause my Tomtom during the misbehaviour...not the best run ever! Never mind, tis done.
500

suzannefollowmyvan · 11/08/2015 15:25

11.7 from me
=511.7
thankfully cloudy so not too hot :)

familygermsareok · 11/08/2015 17:17

Thanks all. You are right Anglaise, a rest will do me good although I will be getting inwardly stabby after a few days

I like that way of thinking Keyser Smile .
Because I do the small local races the same names crop up. I often have a quick scan of the entry list and I now know the ones I've got no chance against vs the ones about the same as me. When I move up to the older category next year I will have very few chances though, as there are quite a lot of faster runners than me age 50+. Often the first 3 FSVs are in before the 3rd FV!
I know what you mean about London, I did the same hm 3 years in a row and got slower each year at one stage, it was really quite a downer. But London sounds like such an amazing overall experience it would be a shame to run it just focusing on your previous time and worrying about disappointment. Would it work to try and view it as a 'new' race run by a 'different' you (and if you smash your previous time even better Smile ) Good luck with the ballot.

Great achievement Purpletoes, that's fab Smile.

Glad hm training going to plan despite impediments emummy

No running (sigh) but a lovely cycle with DS2 helped.

phlebasconsidered · 11/08/2015 18:27

Nothing from me today, I have been totally ground down by the four loads of washing and post camping for a fortnight fug.

Plus, I have my period and I never feel like running. That makes me very contemporary and "on trend" considering the media today.

cinnamongreyhound · 11/08/2015 20:29

Sounds pants phlebasconsidered!

I am sensible and did to enter the ballot so no worries if I did or didn't get in Wink

6.5 miles from me of horrible minute efforts to keep my friend company, daft woman!! We did a longish warm up and down with 3 x 3 1 min efforts, bleurgh 518.2

MyBlackCat · 11/08/2015 21:02

You have all inspired me with your distances so I had a go myself Smile 8.2 miles this evening - the longest I have run in a very long time, at least 18 months maybe even more than 2 years.

Feeling very tired but pleased with myself - managed to run fairly consistent miles too.

526.4

DeckSwabber · 11/08/2015 21:12

Hi I'm new here.

I ran a very slow Brighton Marathon last April. Have had 4 months off (to recover fully - I hope - from a sore knee) and now starting a few 5km runs.

Can anyone recommend a marathon training plan so that I can attempt Brighton again?

My plan at the moment is to focus on improving my pace and general fitness over the summer, avoiding any long runs until October and dong some Park runs for motivation.

Thank you all!

Anglaise1 · 12/08/2015 11:33

Well done on your longest ever run blackcat!
Phlebas good luck with your laundry, my periods are now drying up but were never bad enough to stop me running, it must be horrible Sad
family age is no barrier to running really well thank goodness. There are some very good runners in the FSV category I moved into last year, but many fewer of us than in the FV category, hence the chances of a podium place are much better. I think I've had a podium place in every race I've run in Brittany since moving up to the older category, whereas previously they were restricted to long trail races which only a few women do.

Forgot to add yesterdays mileage, 8 miles tempo run with club plus 3 miles with the dog.
537.4

KeyserSophie · 12/08/2015 12:19

Welcome Deck Are you from Brighton? I'm from there originally- my parents still live that way. Cant help with specific training plans I'm afraid. I just started 14 weeks before and did an 8 mile long run, built up to a 20 mile long run and then did a few other runs during the week- not v scientific.

7 from me this morning to make 533.4.

PoppyShakespeare · 12/08/2015 12:23

533.4. + 4 = 537.4

HalleLouja · 12/08/2015 12:36

3 miles including hills from me makes 540.4. Missed running club so went out and did hills. Not sure what is happening to me.

DeckSwabber · 12/08/2015 13:18

Hi Keyser no I'm not really local - I just liked the look of it!

Last winter I did more or less the same as you. Got up to a solid 7 mile threshold by Christmas and then increased the longer runs each week.
