13.1 half marathon miles this morning. Mixture of trail, path and tarmac, but not as much trail as I'd hoped for. 20 degrees but it didn't feel so bad today as there was a nice cool breeze. There was a tartan theme and walkers and 5k racers were asked to wear kilts. Some brave souls were running the hm in full kilts! They must have been melting Shock
I just stuck some tartan ribbon in my shoelaces and Garmin. Typical that we have had a really rubbish summer but two of the hottest days have been race days!
Struggled a bit at the end. I usually find miles 9-11 hardest then can pick it up in the last 2 but I couldn't seem to get my legs to do it today. Need to work on my stamina I think.

327.23 + 13.1 = 340.33

familygermsareok · 08/08/2015 15:51

Just gone back to catch up with thread. I really must stop moaning about 20 degrees when I hear what some of you have to cope with, especially Keyser
Congratulations on your PB BlackCat and on your lovely news TriJo Smile Hope you can defer if Murphy's Law holds true!
Hi runningLou and good luck with 10k training.
Good luck with your race tomorrow lastqueen and anyone else racing.

I am looking forward to carry out and Wine this evening Smile

Just parkrun from me today so 3.1 did it in Ireland which was nice.
Hoping to get a long run or two in this week with all the willing relatives around to babysit. My mum brought dd to parkrun and she charmed everyone around them grinning away.

Congratulations TriJo that's lovely news.

Well done family on race only 5 weeks till my 10k so need to get ome more serious mileage in before then.

I am in awe of anyone who runs in the humidity and heat.

Nice long run this morning, pleasant weather.

runninglou I used the Zen labs 10k training plan. It takes you from the beginning (non-runner status) and I had just done C25K so I started halfway through with the session of 4 lots of run 10 min, walk 1 min.

A 3.57 from earlier in the week and a 6.33 from today. I had a rather heavy session of cocktails and vodka infused gummy-bears last night, but was feeling surprisingly chipper this morning and the run cleared my head. It was typical Wellington weather - started off in warm sunshine and finished off in a freezing (but welcome at that point) hail shower!

new total 372.9

lastqueenofscotland · 09/08/2015 13:36

Absolutely smashed my 10k pb today, i started i reckon about 30 seconds after gun, so waiting for chip time, but even the gun time was a pb! Delighted!

my last race was such a farce i nearly cried on the way home someone has issues, and beat myself up for about a week. Been feeling like the proverbial butchers dog in the last 10 days/2 weeks however and just so glad it all paid off.

Real buzz for it all at the moment, and to see improvement, while thinking there was a bit more left in the tank and could have gone faster is amazing.

Next race is a 5k in two weeks and already excited...

379.1 i think someone may want to check the probably dodgy maths.

runningLou · 09/08/2015 17:23

Thank you for all the training tips! Am going to follow up all the links when back home, am on hols now. Been pretty good at getting out running every other day while away but need to some motivation to go tomorrow! Anglaise are you in France? I've been in Normandy where there was some gorgeous running and now in Versailles.
lastqueen what training did you do in the few weeks before your 10k? Huge well done on smashing your PB! Am I allowed to ask what your time was?! Noticed no one mentions times on thread?!

runtothehills · 09/08/2015 18:05

Lastqeen well done you, a good race and a PB certainly do wipe the post bad race lows away! Have a Wine and a Star

Whowould do you think vodka infused gummy bears would be good for mid race pick up???

Lovely catch up with friend today and did a fab 10 miles over the Cairngorms today, bit wild and windy but a good natter was had Smile.

389.1

lastqueenofscotland · 09/08/2015 18:59

Hills whereabouts in cairngorms are you? just my family are all in Deeside!

Loueytb3 · 09/08/2015 20:24

Adding in 15.62 from Friday and 8 from today.

Odd things I have seen while running - today was several knights. I think they were scout leaders dressed as knights, but it was a bit surreal to find them in the middle of the woods.

TriJo congratulations! That's lovely news. And yes it would be murphy's law but you can defer to the following year. I am bound to get a place this year as I'm doing Brighton and its only a week apart from London, so no way I could or would be doing both.

lastqueen very well done. Soak in that pb high Grin

runninglou welcome! Good luck with the training.

runtothehills · 09/08/2015 20:35

Lastqueen I live on Deeside, but I'm currently over for a few days visiting family near Aviemore. Easier to get up into the Cairngorms from this side, from home there's always big long run ins! Hows the legs this evening? and did you get your chip time?

Anglaise1 · 09/08/2015 20:43

runningLou I've been living in Brittany for 13 years, but I'm quite near the Normandy border. It is quite flat here compared to some of Normandy valleys (depending on where you were on holiday). My next race at the end of August is l'Enduro des Sables in Agon Coutainville, a really well known race in France (and not that easy on the beach!), 10k for women and 14k for men. I hope you enjoy Versailles!
5 miles from me today, spent the rest of the day on the beach and in the sea Grin

429.7+3.5=433.2

This is probably the dullest discovery in the history of running, but I think I have found out why my phone gps kept losing the signal and jumping a mile then jumping back...the culprit was... my Emergency Plastic Bag. I'd put one in the pocket of my running capris where I also put my phone, in case it rained and I had to protect my phone with something...only it turns out it interfered with the gps signal somehow. I ran without an EPB tonight and all was well. FlukeSkyeRunner one, EPB nil Grin

suzanneyeswecan · 09/08/2015 21:06

thats sounds a little odd Fluke would plastic block GPSConfused

FlukeSkyeRunner · 09/08/2015 21:16

Yes it does. But on the two runs when the gps went weird I had the bag in my pocket. Tonight I didn't, and it was fine. Circumstantial I guess, but strange things happen... I'll see if it happens again.

suzanneyeswecan · 09/08/2015 21:21

presumably you have other plastic items about your person though?

FlukeSkyeRunner · 09/08/2015 21:23

Yeah, but I don't put my phone in them, or squash them into a small pocket with my phone. Maybe I should shut up now...

suzanneyeswecan · 09/08/2015 21:30

just make sure you dont run in a tin foil hat :o

FlukeSkyeRunner · 09/08/2015 21:33

Grin I'm definitely shutting up now!

HalleLouja · 10/08/2015 08:12

I have done 17.35 miles this week. That makes 450.55.

Need to check if I added last weekend's miles in too.

I had started thinking about London ballot too. Am mainly hoping I don't get in. But if I do at least I won't have to train in the heat. Not a fan despite my Mediterranean genes . I do have a nice tan despite not being abroad this year.

Pmsl at fluke.. I find my watch far less temperamental than my phone was. Though it did once have me running through houses.

HalleLouja · 10/08/2015 08:21

Louey I might have to have a read on runners world forums. This book I am reading is very persuasive.

TriJo · 10/08/2015 09:00

10km yesterday as part of the London Triathlon for me...
