Very interesting Whowould, I'm thinking that the fluctuations are mostly down to changes in the numbers contributing to the thread since most of us tend to keep to a regular weekly mileage?

Whowouldfardelsbear · 02/07/2015 12:01

Think you're right Suzanne - i will try to fit some more miles in!

I did my run this evening listening to an audio book (Jurassic Park!) as I need to get used to running without music for the race on Sunday. It was actually really good and I think I may do it more often. Certainly helped keep me going.

BobblesAndClips · 02/07/2015 13:22

It's interesting to see the higher mileage at the start of the year. Have lots of people disappeared since then?

It's so much cooler today, I can actually entertain the thought of running. Now hoping to get out for a few miles tonight, so fingers crossed (and not too much tea!)

suzannecanthecan · 02/07/2015 13:55

people leave and join all the time Bobbles, I think I started adding miles last november/dec, Cinnamon, Poppy, and Aggressive I'm pretty sure were here when I joined, very probably others too

I'm not sure how long the running thread has been running?
Does anyone know?

suzannecanthecan · 02/07/2015 13:57

I much prefer spoken word to music Whowould
if Im not really feeling like running I focus on the fact that it's an opportunity to catch up on my favorite podcasts :o

AnnPerkins · 02/07/2015 14:16

I was on a running thread about four years ago. I don't see any of the names around that were on it back then. I have NC'd since then too.

Bobbles I ration my tea intake in anticipation of a run too Grin

I like to listen to R4 comedy shows. I must look like I'm really enjoying my run when people see me pass them with a huge grin on my face Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 02/07/2015 14:33

I have shorts that are the same as my capris DizzyNorthernBird, no bunching at all but they are longish shorts and fitted.

I think I've been pretty much here from the start, baby brain is preventing me remembering who started it but I'm sure OhOneOhTwoOhThree and Blatherskite were here from the beginning too.

I ran 4 miles with two club mates and my dogs plus my friends one and it was alread 18C at 6am. Dogs went in the river twice, kind of wish I could have too! Ds3 is sleeping through for now and usually wakes up 7-7.30, I was home 7.05 and dh said he'd been awake 10mins and was HUNGRY! Poor little thing suffering for mummy's sport Sad

I'm a radio 4 podcast listener too, its an opportunity to catch up on everything I've missed. Today I ran for just under 2 hours and got through the Archers Omnibus the News Quiz. I think I joined the thread just after Suzanne, certainly Poppy, Ohoneohtwo, Cinammon and Agressive were here. There were lots of new members in January but a lot disappeared (like new year gym membership I suppose!)
Cinnamon do you have a harness for running with your dog? I bought one to run with for my border collie but he chewed it off himself. He has destroyed a lot of my house with his teeth!
Much cooler here today, it rained all morning but conditions perfect this afternoon. 12 miles to add from my run.

Yes Anglaise1, they both have harnesses and I have a belt and double line. They only wear them when running and stay on the line when running with Cani-cross club and let them off most of the run when I got with my friend. Hopefully you can see the pic, greyhound at the front whippet x at the back Smile

Running round the world....well it sounds like we have ourselves a 2015 goal ladies Grin .

Anglaise1 · 02/07/2015 19:41

Cinnamon lovely photo and I see what you mean. The mistake I made was not taking the harness off him when he wasn't runningBlush. My dog usually trots all the time I'm running, the only time he runs is to catch me up. Your greyhound and whippet must be so grateful that you are a runner to give them all that exercise!
Standing I think we have done at least the great wall of china. I'm sure we'll make the world between us!

familygermsareok · 02/07/2015 20:52

That's a good challenge Whowould Grin . Impressive that we have already made it to NZ.
I have 5.03 to add. Very reluctantly as we had done a long family cycle today, I'm not really an evening runner, and I just wanted to sit down with a glass of wine. But DS1 has been bitten by the bug and really wanted to go for a run so I heaved myself along and really enjoyed it!
Thank you DS1 Smile
( have wine in hand now so all is right with the world again!)

80.12 + 5.03 = 85.15

I do most of my runs with my dog, but never on the lead. All my runs are planned around places I don't need to have him on one, but I have thought about a belt to give me more flexibility. What one do you have Cinnamon? and can it be tucked away when they're off lead?

I don't have a crop top, but resort to my sports bra when its v hot. Fortunately I rarely see other people when I'm out and it's also not that often that its ever hot enough Wink

Today I think I was doing the Indonesian jungle stage of our round the world trip. Club handicap race in the evening heat and pouring rain, not sure if my top was more wet from rain or sweat.

5 miles including warm up (though I was already warm) and cool down (not much cooling achieved).

cinnamongreyhound · 02/07/2015 21:17

Runtothehills I have this one, I clip it back to itself and kind of hang it over my shoulder/neck.

The greyhound enjoys a run Anglaise1 but sometimes does more than he should. He'll comfortably do 6miles but doing more is pushing it. The whippet x on the other hand will go forever and she has done a hm with me Grin

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/07/2015 21:25

I think this version of the running thread has been going about 18 months. And I think Sirzy (who doesn't seem to post any more) started us off. At least I seem to remember branching out of the parkrun thread around the Christmas/New Year before last Smile.

I remember an older version of this thread a few years back , but there were only a few posters who seemed very experienced and I was such a new runner that I didn't dare join. I think they ended up in a FB group and the thread fizzled out.

No running all week for me - too hot and too busy - but yoga tomorrow and parkrun tourism on Saturday to look forward to Smile

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/07/2015 21:36

How it all started Grin

standingonlego · 02/07/2015 22:24

I came here via the parkrun thread, and now these are about the only 2 places I ever post :) Love hearing about the running (and non-running) adventures of everyone, and how welcoming and supportive a place it is. I have even meet a few of the folk here in RL now and everyone is lovely Smile

suzannecanthecan · 02/07/2015 22:25

?Thanks for coming up with the link to the original thread ohoneoh
Thinking maybe we should re name it 'running and weather discussion'
weather is such a big deal for us runners inevitably it's a mainstay of the conversation!

BobblesAndClips · 02/07/2015 22:43

Am amused by the thought of running along chortling away to R4 comedy. I haven't tried running with headphones yet, I don't think mine would stay in. They don't stay in when I'm sitting still at my desk, let alone running.

Running round the world is definitely a good goal! I've got 3.1 to add from tonight, which won't get us very far but hey, every little helps.

Thanks for the thread history OhOne Smile I hope a fitter, faster version of me is still here chatting in a year or two. I do find it motivating hearing about others runs and what people are up to.

Starving now. Had a banana but it didnt really cut it. The cons of going for a late run after a small tea.

Purpletoes · 02/07/2015 23:11

Hi yes it's lovely having other people to chat to.

I ran today mid to late afternoon. As my mil very kindly came to mind the baby whilst toddler was at nursery. It was so sticky and hot and I stupidly did a route that included 3 rail foot bridges. So just a 3.2 from me today.
Thanks for the link to the original thread I am going to have a look whilst ding the night breast feeds!
boobles I am the same. It just makes it easier to go out and run.

I think there was some same time posting so I think this is now the proper total. Hopefully.
99.45 +3.2=102.65

AggressiveBunting · 03/07/2015 01:10

5k training session with our corporate team last night makes 105.75. There is a 30k/43k night race in October that is targeted at corporates and about 40 people from my company do it, so we have weekly training sessions where we hike/run the 5k with the thousands of steps I mentioned before. I was in charge of the session last night so confess it was mainly hiking rather than running. Rest day today and planning a longish run tomorrow.

PoppyShakespeare · 03/07/2015 09:11

3 with my slow joggers, who have been too fast for me lately but heat brings them down to my level

105.75 + 3 = 108.75

TriJo · 03/07/2015 09:36

2 fast miles last night along with some outdoor strength training with hubby!

110.75

Swimming tonight though, looking forward to that already.
