Good news purpletoes, I love my club!!

Well done on juneathon AnnPerkins and hope the headache passes quickly!

Was too hot last night Lilicat1013, left dogs home but will take them for a run at 6am tomorrow as it's pretty comfortable when I walk them normally at 6.30. It was better under the trees last night than in the open, glad for the forest!

Welcome DizzyNorthernBird! I was in your position last year ttc, have an 11 week old now Smile. Good luck in your hm, if it helps I only did one 12 mile run before the three that I've done.

shovetheholly · 01/07/2015 13:38

cinnamon said Totals are each month

Wait, what? You guys run 1,500 miles a MONTH?! How is that possible?! Shock

I confess to being intimidated.

Neeko · 01/07/2015 13:41

Combined total Shovetheholly. Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 01/07/2015 13:42

Oh yes for the whole thread not individually! I run about 12-15miles a week at the moment.

Sunday looks a lot cooler! Down south it looks like it's going to drop around 10c by then. You'll be fine :)

Don't forget, swimming is good cross training and is nice and cool!

Adding in 9.64 very sluggish miles from this morning. God it's hot, even in the woods with loads of shade. I managed to go arse over tit over a tree root as well, I think because my legs just didn't want to work really. Only hurt my pride. Fortunately there was no-one around to see my embarrassment....

Welcome DizzyNorthernBird

lastqueen I spent my teenage years in HK...small world. My sister is back at the moment showing my niece the sights, she was born there but they left when she was 2 so she doesn't remember it at all. The heat was the main reason I stuck to sprints when I was at school. I hated long distance running.

Am quite pleased with my personal June total - 134 miles. By far and away the most mileage I've run in a month.

38.92

Anglaise1 · 01/07/2015 18:12

Bangthedrum I wouldn't want to run a marathon in this heat, but you should be fine with a 10k. Not ideal for your first if it is hot, just make sure you are properly hydrated for a couple of days before.
Does anyone run in a brassiere top (no idea what they are called in English) instead of a t shirt? I read it is better to run in a light top when it is hot as it absorbs the sweat and this is better for you, but I've no idea of the science behind it.
9.7 miles from me today, a much nicer day to run, not quite so hot and a strong cool breeze. Dog much happier too.

Thanks for the welcomes Smile

I've been in my flat struggling with the heat all day. I have no idea how I'm going to cope running this evening but I've decided to do an out and back run to see how I get on.....then if I'm struggling I can head straight back home.

I'm wishing I'd invested in some running shorts now....I usually stick with my trusty old capris but they were too heavy on Monday and it was only around 23 c then. I'm going to swelter tonight!!

DizzyNorthernBird · 01/07/2015 18:17

anglaise do you mean a crop top? I wouldn't dare wear one of those around here, too many letches sitting in the traffic Hmm.

Anglaise1 · 01/07/2015 18:29

Hi Dizzy and welcome! Yes, capri length are too hot, I never wear anything but shorts if the temperature is over 12°C. And only ever shorts for racing even if it is 0°C.
Yes, a bra crop top type thing. I only see the odd farmer and rather a lot of cows on my runs so not too much letching to worry about.

I wouldnt rule out a crop top...but then there'd be a whole extra area of uncovered skin to cover with sunscreen.
I really dont want to be at all tanned if I can help it!

Anglaise1 · 01/07/2015 19:50

I know crop tops aren't for everyone, I was just wondering if they really are the best thing to wear in hot weather, given that t shirts can protect you and absorb sweat better...or so I've heard. In my race on Sunday I overtook a girl wearing one a couple of times who was wearing one. I'm obliged to wear my [very ugly] running club shirt when racing so I don't have a choice, but wondered if there is an advantage to crop tops or t shirts when running in very hot weather.

suzannecanthecan · 01/07/2015 20:09

crop top is bound to be cooler surely, any clothing will slow down the rate of heat loss from the skin?

a wet t shirt is very cooling though :o

GrumpyOldBiddy2 · 01/07/2015 20:35

At 6am whilst it was still vaguely tolerable!!

DizzyNorthernBird · 01/07/2015 20:45

Ugh I would have the muffin top too.... So it's a no go for me. I usually wear dri-fit tshirts but have switched to vest tops with a bra insert this week and have felt cool enough on my top half.

I've always shyed away from shorts because I've got chunky thighs and I've always worried about the material in between the legs bunching up together...does anyone have this problem? I guess I could buy a cheap pair and see how I get on.

Well ladies,I'm feel like I've let you all down already....I come on here boasting of double figures today and in the end I could only manage a very gentle 5 miles Blush. Very very hard work in the heat, I'm glad I went out because I clearly need to acclimatise to it but jeez it was tough.

suzannecanthecan · 01/07/2015 21:33

I recon easy paced and shorter than normal is the best way to go in unaccustomed heat Dizzy
no doubt summer will be over before we have chance to fully acclimatize anyway

I am tempted to swap some of my running for swimming..but no doubt the pool would be too busy to swim properly and I'm not sure I can face all that fighting for lane space caper again ?Hmm

Purpletoes · 01/07/2015 21:35

Well done everyone who has managed to run today. It just feels too hot here even now. Both little ones in bed in nappy or pants only.

dizzy I am the same as you chunky in thigh area so running leggings/capris only for me.

Hoping to get out again tomorrow. Smile

BobblesAndClips · 01/07/2015 21:56

No miles to add from me. I was planning to go to the local running club tonight for the first time, but the traffic gods were against me and I didn't get home from work on time. And I was far too hot and knackered to go out on my own tonight. So it looks like parkrun on Saturday will be my next run. That's nearly a week between runs. Far too long!

Capri leggings and tshirt or vest top for me, but I don't have any shorts. I imagine my leggings will be very hot at the moment. Hope it cools down a bit soon, I'm crap at coping with hot weather Sad

Very impressed with the Juneathon AnnPerkins. Smile

AggressiveBunting · 02/07/2015 04:10

I sometimes wear a crop top. A good thing about living here is I can't understand Cantonese so if the locals are saying ' omg look at that crepey mum tum' I don't know. The main benefit is you don't have wet material flapping around your stomach. Main downside is hydration pack chaffage.

emummy · 02/07/2015 07:55

4.1 from me this morning, went out before breakfast to avoid heat so it was only 17 degrees! Beautiful run along river.
No crop tops here, the world is not ready! I have very comfy ronhill vests and Helly Hansen t shirts, the latter especially are really comfortable even on hot days.

January 2457.51
February 2085.5
March 1674.3
April 1534.65
May 1702.77
June 1560.1

This gives us a half year total of: 11,014.83

That is almost half way around the world!! If any of you are in Scotland, that would be like running over to see me in Wellington (I wouldn't advise it though- you may get rather wet.

We will will have to try to get to about 25,000 miles to do the circumference of the world in a year Grin

Having said that, I am unable to offer much towards that, but did get 3.2 miles just now 64.12

TriJo · 02/07/2015 09:53

I would quite happily run in a crop top type sports bra (Shock Absorber S4490 etc) and shorts somewhere that there is a lot of runners around (Regent's Park etc) and if it's over around 27-28 and humid. I did it in Oregon on my honeymoon and I was far from the only one! Not massively self-conscious about my stomach tbh, but my girls need support.
