adding 2.1 to make 1488.5. Was meant to be 5 miles but just wasn't happening. Too damn humid and my legs actually felt wobbly so I cut back home. I've got a long run planned for tomorrow so I'll keep my powder dry for that.

familygermsareok · 30/06/2015 12:18

Glad to hear there has been some improvement Poppy

Hope specialist can help with PITA now you have found the cause Anglaise

Your poor DH OhOne, that must be very frustrating for him.

I don't use Strava but DH does for his cycling. He does tend to get a bit obsessed with segments and his position. I always know if we have hit a segment when we are out on a cycle together as he will suddenly accelerate away and wait for me at the end Grin
He also makes sure to entitle any cycles with me or DC's as 'leisurely family cycle' so that it's clear to anyone following that he is not just slacking Grin

4.9 from me this morning. It was quite cloudy here with a refreshing wind at 7am. It is now sunny and warm but still quite a breeze. Glad I got the run in earlier.

1486.41 + 4.9 = 1491.31

familygermsareok · 30/06/2015 12:20

Oops, xpost with Aggressive

1488.5 + 4.9 = 1493.4

familygermsareok · 30/06/2015 12:32

lastqueen re water could you leave any water bottles hidden along your route beforehand? Or if you are in urban area take money and buy some en route?
Must admit, I would probably postpone a long run if it was very hot but if I wanted to do one and was worried about water I might cycle or drive beforehand and stash a bottle or two, returning to pick them up again afterwards. A bit of a faff but better than dehydrating on a seriously hot day.

runtothehills · 30/06/2015 16:19

So todays plan was a slow recovery run with a couple of friends up the hill behind the village. Returned to find my keys were no longer in my pocket and deduced that the "comfort" stop at the top must have been the location. As I was still aching from Sunday the thought of returning for them was horrific, opted for a time out pub lunch (am ravenous ATM), then headed out again taking a slightly shorter route but this time in the afternoon heat. So in total my recovery run was 11 miles Shock don't think the training plans advise this and am now feeling absolutely knackered.

Poppy I'm glad to hear things are looking up for your running.

Lastqueen are there any rivers en-route? I often top up as I go along.

I don't use Strava, but it seems an addiction to some. Did once use my DH's phone which synched to his Strava though and I got a KoM against a local MTB route. Was quicker to run than cycle Grin

1493.4 + 11 = 1504.4

Anglaise1 · 30/06/2015 16:43

LastQueen can't really add to what Family and Run said, other than invest in a camelback but if you only do road races it probably wouldn't be worth it because there are always lots of water stations. I sometimes plan a route to pass by my house half way.
Runforthehills so glad you found your keys, but yes, not a text book recovery run, put your feet up for a few days now.
Out of interest, does anyone get attacked by birds when running? We have lots of buzzards around here and the females often attack runners in an attempt to protect their young. One of the men from the club was attacked last week and he has quite an impressive gash on his head (he is bald so it shows a lot).
7 miles from me today, 3 this morning (lovely) and 4 this afternoon (35°C) (no club run tonight cos it's OH's birthday) - usually I never sweat but it is pouring off me now. I will only be running early in the morning for the rest of the heatwave.

That's an impressive recovery run Runtothehills, every time I see your mn nickname I spend ages with iron maiden going round and round in my head!

Totals are each month shovetheholly so my last 4 very sweaty miles for this month are going to be added *1515.4+

cinnamongreyhound · 30/06/2015 19:42

Rubbish bolding 1515.4

BobblesAndClips · 30/06/2015 21:21

Hello, I'm catching up from last week. Lots of posts to read and a lot of miles covered. Congratulations to all who raced at the weekend, inspiring stuff.

I did my first 10 race, completed it without walking, I wasn't last and I really enjoyed it. Yay!

And I'm another one who thinks that 10 minute miles aren't slow Smile

1515.4+6.2=1521.6

MadMonkeys · 30/06/2015 22:24

Can I join in? I finished c25k a few weeks ago and have been doing 30-35min runs three times a week since then. I've been lurking on this thread for ages but my mileage seems a bit insignificant compared to you lovely ladies! 30.5 miles for me in June so:

1521.6+30.5=1552.1

Any recommendations for podcasts to follow on from c25k? I'm using the nhs ones at the mo but my natural pace is quite fast (with a fairly short stride) so I'm finding them a bit weird. And they only go as far as a 35 minute run anyway. Any good 5-10k podcasts?

lastqueenofscotland · 30/06/2015 22:48

Another 5 from me at run club tonight. All hills. That hurt
1557.1

Purpletoes · 30/06/2015 23:48

Just a 3 from me. Joined the local running club run this evening. Went in their slowest group but found the pace to be fine even easy a little even in the heat (although I think it was deliberately slow due to the heat) everyone was friendly think I might join for the support. It was a lovely run through the local woods with a little hill in it!

1560.1

AggressiveBunting · 01/07/2015 03:47

HAPPY JULY RUNNING FRIENDS!!

Kicking us off with 10.3. God I hate running today. Was sweating so much that I was squelching in my shoes despite a mid-run sock change. I think I might be able to break the world sweat volume record. Time was slow. In the last 2 days I've gone from "i'm going to smash it next season" to "why do I even bother?".

To perk myself up, I joined the Strava Killian Jornet 5000m July climb challenge (annoyingly after I'd already done 365m).

Now I'm off for lunch and a beer (public holiday here today)

standingonlego · 01/07/2015 09:06

Morning running folks! Started the new month with an early morning 5k before it got too hot.

13.5

AnnPerkins · 01/07/2015 09:17

Morning all. Can I stick my 3.5 from last night on the June total? 1563.6

I left it as late as possible so was only about 25deg when I went out. It felt quite comfortable because there was a nice, light breeze. I enjoyed a nice 35 minute trundle listening to Sandi Toksvig's last News Quiz Sad. I developed a crashing headache afterwards though. I have a neurological headache condition that is triggered by exercise and heat so it was inevitable really.

Also I'm proud and relieved to say I exercised every day last month for #Juneathon. It's made such a difference that I and a couple of others from the Juneathon thread have vowed to continue through July as well.

Lilicat1013 · 01/07/2015 09:49

Bobblesandclipes Congratulations, that is awesome! So inspiring as well, I want to be able to do that one day.

AnnPerkins that sounds horrible, I hope you are feeling better now.

I checked in to see how everyone was doing with the heat, I hate it. I got out as early as possible but it was still so hot and awful, I got my worse time ever and was getting some pre seizure warning signs so that is never good.

It is demoralising to be so very slow and crap, I am hoping my speed will improve when the weather gets colder. I much prefer the cold and it is much more fun to run when it is raining.

Familygermsareok despite being caught by the zombies I am uninfectected as I had run long enough to collect supplies which you can throw at them to escape!

I do have a gym membership so I can work on running at the gym, I struggle with treadmills. A few years ago I had what was probably a seizure but as I was undiagnosed at the time it was assumed I fainted while using one. As I wasn't able to put my arms up to break my fall I hit my face quite badly so there was lots of blood and drama. I still use treadmills but get worried about running and constantly think I am going to fall. I am hoping to improve my confidence with practise but currently I can only do a few minutes.

TriJo · 01/07/2015 10:14

Ran last night at around 6:30pm and it was around 28c when I started. Shortened the run slightly and slowed down by around 20 sec/km and it was fine. Of course sitting out in the sun with hubby and a nice ice tea afterwards was even better :)

DizzyNorthernBird · 01/07/2015 10:27

Hello can I join in? Just discovered this thread so will catch up on the previous pages!

I'm on the ttc boards but it's not the right place for talking about running and I find the runners world website forums too cliquey!

How is everyone coping with the heat? I've been putting off a 13 miler since the weekend but it's my last one before a half marathon a week on Sunday Confused. Wondering whether I should attempt it at some point tonight if it's cooler.....

HalleLouja · 01/07/2015 11:15

Welcome Dizzy! I haven't run for nearly a week. Am going on a run tomorrow evening. Was considering today but way too hot and its supposed to cool down a bit tomorrow.

DizzyNorthernBird · 01/07/2015 11:26

Thanks halle! I'm thinking about heading out and waiting until the first few miles are in before I decide what to do. There's a point after four miles where I can head back if I'm struggling which will result in 7 miles instead of 13. I can also do the same for an 11 mile route. I must be mad! Drinking lots of water today and will take an electrolytes tablet in my water bottle.

I really don't want to miss this 13 mile run. My training hasn't gone to plan (motivation dip) so I've only done one 13 mile run and was meant to do four. It's not a pb race anyway but I just don't want to struggle on the day.

familygermsareok · 01/07/2015 11:35

Well done Bobbles, that's brilliant! And well done Ann on completing Juneathon and carrying it forward too Smile

Glad you are uninfected Lilicat Wink . Zombies and how to survive an attack are a frequent subject of discussion in our house as the DS's are into them. Consequently I have an ongoing fear of meeting some when out running Blush
I think you will probably find it much easier running in the cold. I definitely do.

I feel faint thinking about your running conditions Aggressive We hit 29 degrees here yesterday and I would have really struggled to run in that. Good luck with your climb challenge.

Welcome MadMonkeys every mile counts Smile

Welcome DizzyNorthernBird too. I've also got a hm a week on Sunday. I'm not doing any more long runs till then, partly because I'm away on hols. If you've got plenty of distance running built up already you probably don't really need to do another, especially in this heat, but if it would make you more confident then take it slowly this evening and make sure you hydrate well all through the day, not just beforehand.

5.3 this morning before it got too hot. Lovely cool coastal breeze, but it seems to come from all directions so I am always running into the wind Confused
Accompanied by DS1 again. I quite fancied a rest day today but he was keen so off we went, and feel much better for it Smile
13.5 + 5.3 = 18.8

familygermsareok · 01/07/2015 11:41

Sorry x post Dizzy. Sounds like you've got a good plan there. Any chance of going early tomorrow morning when it might be cooler too?

suzannecanthecan · 01/07/2015 11:43

9.58 from me

28.38

suzannecanthecan · 01/07/2015 11:56

I went out with some trepidation on account of all the 'death valley warnings Shock and because I've never run in hot weather before.
It was hot but I was able to find a comfortable pace, I cut the run a bit short to be on the safe side but overall I'm happy with how it went

lastqueenofscotland · 01/07/2015 12:06

Well done to all who are making it out in this heat. I keep thinking I should run home but I just really don't think I'm up to it it's roasting here
