I got up and ran 2 miles really early yesterday, and the day before. It was great. I always imagined I'd trip and fall over or twist an ankle or be laughed at and had a dozen excuses for myself lined up. So liberating to just do it!

My joints/muscles are really achy today, think I might need to up my meds a bit if I want to keep this up.

Hopefully your joints will soon get used to it too. Just be careful not to over do it.

I'm achey today too! Shame because I wanted to run again :( thanks again for advice :)

Hiya runners. I would love to join this thread, a was a bit of a lurker on the last one. Am watching VMLM on TV with DS this morning. Very inspiring and motivational.
I am still very much a novice. I run 2-3 times a week at the moment. I have just reached 5k and now I am a bit more confident in myself I am trying to decide whether to enter a race or just carry on running for fun and get a bit faster first!
How do you all think Mo will get on today?

Not sure how Mo will get on today, isn't it his first marathon? I think he's ace but not sure he will win, there are a lot of experienced runners who specialise in longer distances. I will love it if he proves me wrong though!

I'm going to head out for my long run and then hopefully be back in time to see the elites finish. Normally I would watch more but I haven't been for a run in over a week (DH been away) so I'm itching to get out.

I run 3-4 times a week - one ParkRun, once with Sweatshop running community and once on my own. I started this time last year and could barely run 500m, where as this year I've already done a 10k event and signed up for 3 more and a 5k. Also contemplating a half marathon in July, but after doing a 90 min run a few week ago (did just shy of 9 mile) the thought of another 50 mins or so made me want to cry!

I'm watching the marathon this morning after 7 days of training. for the first time ever I have a little idea of the training involved and am even more inspired. Perhaps one day?

Cardiff I'm a novice too. I also run 3 times a week and I'm nearly at 5k. I'm doing race for life 5k in a few weeks and I've also registered for a 10k in Sept. I'm registering for a half marathon on Monday and seem to be talking myself into a marathon in April 2015. I hadn't considered any of this 6 weeks ago :)

I am watching the marathon this morning, got back from Swimming with DS just intime to watch it all start.

Comic, I live in a valley. The only ways out of the village are uphill.
I promise you, you will one day view this as a GOOD THING. There will be a day when you realise that you just ran up that hill you never even contemplated walking up before.
And no hill on any course will phase you

Thursday I agree, and when you get to run on the flat it is lovely!

Its a simple rule but a great tip for running up a hill is don't look up..keep your head down looking a few feet ahead. Also the hill is not over until you are well over the top so keep concentration up over the crest of the hill. In a race its also the best place to pass someone!

My parkrun has a two quite steep uphill sections. It was on my first time, when I could keep consistently going up those sections (past others who were burning out, smug me?!) that I finally saw the point of the hills

Wow Polka! Good luck with your 5K race for life. I think I will start off by looking for some local 5k races near me and enter one of those to get an idea of what running with other people is like!
It's quite addictive this running malarkey isn't it?

That sounds like a good rule darrell, when you look at the crest it always seems to get further away!

Thanks Sirzy. I do have a Parkrun near me and I have even registered on their website but it's too far to walk to and not accessible by public transport so as I don't have a car, getting there is a bit of a nightmare.
I am hoping that my MIL will take me up there one Saturday and then she can take her dog and DS for a walk in the park while I do the run. Fingers crossed. Sometimes I really hate not having a car.

I'm just getting back into running after hibernating over winter. I never quite managed to get to the point where it felt wrong to not go out for a run. I'm hoping I can get there this summer so I don't hibernate next winter :)

I read somewhere, poss on the C25K website, that it takes 3 months to get into new habits, so need to try and keep it consistent for that long - it's difficult though, life gets in the way.

I was lucky that I got into the habit quite quickly but I think when I set my mind on something I get quite obessive about it which helped in that sense then setting myself an ambitious target early on kept me going when it got tough!

Ran yesterday so no running for me today, taking kids down to the beach then will do a Jillian Michaels DVD tonight.
I have just discovered the Endemondo stats! Helps to see the mileage increasing over the weeks. I have gone from 4 miles a week a month ago, to 15 miles last week, and 40 miles over the last month. Quite addictive!

Anyone else use Endemondo and want to be friends?

Hello - I've mostly lurked but am feeling full of the joys of spring and enthusiastic about running again . Did Parkrun yesterday - am trying to get my 50 shirt before we move away (to an area with no Parkrun ). Have just signed up for a 10k in May. Thinking of trying again to build up to my first Half Marathon (tried twice and got injured or ill borh times). Anyone got any good races coming up soon?

I am doing Manchester 10k in 5 weeks and then English Half Marathon in Septmember.

Is anyone else doing Brighton Marathon?

Looks like if I do it I'll be solo, and that just translates into lonely for such a big run.
